Metal Gear Survive Players Receive Apology & Free Stuff

Metal Gear Survive Players Receive Apology & Free Stuff

Metal Gear Survive arrived only a couple of weeks ago on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The has not been received well by critics and many Metal Gear fans.  To make things a little more difficult for people trying to enjoy the experience, it suffered from a variety of server issues early on. Video game developer, Konami issued an apology for the problems and announced that it’s going to give players free in-game currency to make up for the misstep. On top of that, Konami dropped a new patch to address balance issues and more.

Bumps In The Road

“We know there’s been some bumps during launch and we’re working hard to sort out the final issues,” Konami claimed on Twitter. To ease fans concerns about Metal Gear Survive, Konami is giving away 100 SV coins and 1 Premium boost pass to every fan that created an avatar in the game before February 27. To receive these bonuses fans will simply need to log into the game.

According to the latest patch notes, Metal Gear Survive altered the balance of the Clear Rank requirement on hard-tier co-op missions. Players can also see a funny note on an issue that has been addressed with crafting of “custom undergarments.”  The full patch notes can be found in the embedded tweet above.

Shop Turtle Beach

Lastly, Konami said in a follow-up tweet that the issue regarding Support Defender characters mysteriously vanishing has now been addressed as well. “Thank you for your understanding, patience, and support,” the Metal Gear Survive studio wrote.

Hopefully, Konami can rectify the multitude of problems with the game before it is too late if it isn’t already. Poor review scores and an outcry from Metal Gear fans could kill any support for this game before it even had a chance. While the single player can be fun (albeit demanding) the multiplayer is currently a mess. The playlist above offers some great insight into what players expect from single player and co-op. We’ll be following Metal Gear Survive updates very closely so be sure to check back for more information as it becomes available!

Blizzard Adding Lore Database to Overwatch

Blizzard Adding Lore Database to Overwatch

Blizzard is hyping up fans with more than one new teaser this week. After their cryptic tweet detailing what everyone believes to be a new hero, the company is shifting its focus toward a new lore database that will offer insight into the stories behind the worlds favorite heroes. Blizzard “released” a letter Torbjörn wrote to his wife after suffering injuries on the battlefield and this is just the beginning.

The official Overwatch Twitter account revealed the information of a rather unsuccessful mission called “White Dome.” Unfortunately, the operation didn’t go as planned and an ambush led to Reinhart having to jump in and save Torbjörn after losing his arm.

The Lost Arm and Lore

Blizzard later updated the story to include the letter that Torbjörn wrote to his wife, Ingrid, from the hospital after the failed mission. In the letter, he assures that all is well and even jokes about the situation that led to him receiving that neat and versatile claw arm.

“I know that by now you have gotten news of my injuries in our latest mission. While the descriptions may sound terrible, the doctors are quite sure I’ll make a full recovery. Even Angela came to visit me! On the matter of my arm, I promise to make it my first priority to construct a suitable prosthesis that will make everyone forget that it was ever gone. If only Angela’s dreams of tissue regeneration were a reality! I told her she should be working harder!” (http://bit.ly/2HK4CWa)

The letter also includes a bunch of other details on the builders family and personal life. To see it in its entirety, the full lore entry is available on the Overwatch blog. Be warned, a tissue box may be needed while reading!

Currently, the “Story Update” that Blizzard released is part of a larger ongoing archive that gives players “secret clearance” to various art, videos, and stories. The company hasn’t dedicated a section to the storytelling device as of now. However, with the fascinating tales behind the Heroes coming out rapidly it is expected they’ll have a place soon for gamers to view them.

Final Fantasy 15 Gets Half-Life DLC for Early Buyers

Final Fantasy 15 Gets Half-Life DLC for Early Buyers

Final Fantasy 15 on PC makes its way to the platform on March 6, and Square Enix announced that there are a variety of bonuses available, depending on which store gamers make the purchase. These rewards are the usual list such as extra costumes or power-ups, but for those that make their purchase from Steam, one of those extra costumes happens to be based on the protagonist of Half-Life, Gordon Freeman.

The Half-Life pack may sound like a twisted joke, but it will be completely free for anyone who buys Final Fantasy 15 on Steam before May 1st, Square Enix said. Gordon Freeman’s orange hazmat suit isn’t only available for the hero of the story to wear while saving the world; players are also able to equip the iconic set of glasses and crowbar to their customizable characters in the Comrades multiplayer expansion.

Why Half-Life?

This costume may feel extremely out of place for Final Fantasy 15, but remember, Square Enix recently partnered with Ubisoft to bring Assassin’s Creed themed content to the game so they’re not afraid of wacky crossover content. A few other t-shirts are available for the player, although the orange suit is the highlight of the DLC.

Microsoft Store buyers will receive a generous package of Phoenix Downs and Elixirs to use right at the beginning of the game, along with a special sword that should stay relevant for a while. Purchasing Final Fantasy 15 from the Microsoft Store will also allow players’ PC save data to work with the Xbox One version of the game.  Cross-play is also making its way to the recent multiplayer expansion, Comrades.

What Else Is Coming?

Finally, EA Origin members will receive a few car decals for their purchase as long as they pre-order ahead of the March 6th release date. If anyone is interested in trying the game out before dedicating their money, Square Enix is releasing a demo for the game on February 26th, which will let gamers play through the entirety of the first chapter.

This bonus content is exciting for anyone purchasing the game from the Steam store. Although, this could mean Valve is ready to announce something big for the silent protagonist of Half-Life but it may just be a bit of fun. Gordon may never get his chance to save his universe but he can certainly has a chance to rescue the Final Fantasy universe at least.

3 Games We Want If Microsoft Buys Valve

3 Games We Want If Microsoft Buys Valve

Microsoft is struggling to keep up with their exclusive game list. The Xbox One was not a failure by any means but with a lackluster selection of exclusives, they are far from winning the console war. The easiest way to go about acquiring exclusives is by purchasing studios with a long list of hits under their belt. With rumors and reports of Microsoft in talks to purchase the long-beloved Valve, it could be the push Microsoft needs to make a larger impact on the gaming world. Imagine all the amazing games and opportunity that could become a reality if Microsoft buys Valve!

microsoft buys valve, valve, rumor, video game industry

The profits they could rake in from PC gaming alone could make this move worth the investment. However, the exclusives Microsoft could secure as well as the future games that could be created with all of Valves franchisees are enough to cause excitement.

Let’s take a look at the top 3 games we want to see if Microsoft buys Valve.

Half-Life 3

microsoft buys valve, half life 3, half life, rumor, video game industry

A long-running joke throughout the video game industry, it would almost be unimaginable for gamers to finally get their hand on Half-Life 3. One of the most renowned franchises that was long thought to be a dead-end could have another chance at life. Since Valves purchase is still up in the air, Microsoft hasn’t made any comments about if they’re humoring the idea of making Half-Life 3 a reality. However out of all the Valve games the gaming community would love to see return, Half-Life 3 is at the top of the list.

Left 4 Dead 3

microsoft buys valve, left for dead 3, left for dead, rumor, video game industry

There are few games that held gamers attention like Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. Killing hordes of zombies with a bunch of friends on a mission is an absolutely addicting concept. In classic Valve fashion, after the second Left 4 Dead, they dropped the franchise to work on new projects. Gamers held on hope for a revisit to the Left 4 Dead series but Valve never fails when it comes to moving on after the second release of a beloved game.

Portal 3

microsoft buys valve, portal, portal 3, rumor, video game industry

Now, this third spot was a toss-up between Portal 3 and Team Fortress 3. The reason Portal 3 was the winner is the simple fact that linear and incredible single-player experiences are relatively rare when compared to the recent trend of hero-based shooters. Portal was one of those games that continues to be brought up in conversations about modern gaming, renowned for its creativity and amazing story.

With no official word from Valve or Microsoft, these three titles will have to remain a blissful dream. However, the fact that word continues to circulate about a potential purchase and Microsoft struggling with their exclusives, a purchase could happen. There might be a brand new joke floating around the internet about Valve and their fear of counting to three if Microsoft decides to breathe new life into titles like Half-Life 3. Be sure to check back on GigamaxGames.com for any breaking news about Microsoft and Valve.

Operation Chimera: What to Expect From the Alien Invasion

Operation Chimera: What to Expect From the Alien Invasion

While Rainbow Six Siege changed quite a bit since launch, Operation Chimera will offer the biggest step forward the game has ever experienced. It includes the first PVE update Siege has seen and it’s called Outbreak Event. Players have the chance to fight off alien hordes with some new operators as well as with a couple fan favorites.

The highly anticipated event starts March 6th and will run until early April. Three players team up to fight an alien invasion in the small towns of Truth and Consequences, New Mexico. Three missions are included with the update: Junkyard, Hospital, and Resort. Players have the option of using the two new operators Lion and Finka as well as Smoke, Ash, Doc, Glaz, Kapkan, Tachanka, Buck, Ying, and Recruit.

Operation Chimera, new operators, outbreak, finka, lion

New Tactics and Gameplay

Outbreak ditches Siege’s standard mode of attackers and defenders for an explorative ‘Left 4 Dead’ like situation. For example, Hospital has players escorting a character by the name of Doctor Macintosh around a wing of her medical facility while also collecting samples, defending doors,  and finally escaping the building alive (hopefully). Junkyard and Resort involve gamers guarding explosives while attempting to destroy the towers of alien matter from the inhuman invasion.

Barricading doors and reinforcing walls is still a big part of Operation Chimera but faster animations accompany these actions due to the high speed and density of the aliens. Positions typically only need to be defended for a brief period of time until moving to the next objective which could be a number of different scenarios.

During the transition phases will be when the event feels the most like ‘Left 4 Dead’. These parts oftentimes take place in open-ended areas with alien hordes rushing at the operators as they fire bullet after bullet into the oncoming invasion force. Players will refill ammo, tech, and health before moving onto the next zone with the group leader, Thermite, giving instructions over comms as the three chosen operators offer one-liners in response.

The Enemy Revealed

Five types of enemies will be hunting the operators as they make their way through the Outbreak event. There’s your basic Grunt, who gains strength when alerted to the players presence. Breachers are an explosive type enemy that have yellow growths that trigger an explosion when shot. Rooters will travel underground and will grab the players at an opportune time, holding them in place. The Apex is a more powerful monster that hangs out in the back and spits smoke to blind players and summon other enemies. Finally, there’s the Smasher, a gorilla-like alien that charges enemies and can hurl them incredible distances. The strategy to beat the Smasher is getting them to charge into a wall which will expose their unarmored back.

While Operation Chimera might be a stretch for Rainbow Six Siege, the game mode sounds like a wildly good time. Fans of the ‘Left 4 Dead’ series are sure to love the update but the downside is that it will only be around for a month. We here at Gigamax are certainly excited to see what Outbreak has in store and we’ll be sure to have plenty of gameplay footage when the update goes live.

Destiny 2’s Exotics Are Changing in Upcoming Update

Destiny 2’s Exotics Are Changing in Upcoming Update

Fans of those rare bright yellow orbs will be excited to hear that Bungie is hard at work fixing some of the issues players had with Destiny 2’s Exotics. The company recently revealed how it plans to update the game with the next patch expected in March. They did this in the latest Bungie Weekly Update where Senior Designer, Jon Weisnewski, said the tuning of Destiny 2’s Exotics is focused on “adding and/or increasing player Power spikes.” The blog post explained that while all items were being considered, special focus is being put on low usage items. Ultimately the company wants to “lean into an item’s established gameplay and push it harder” while avoiding “catch-all improvements that dilute item identity.”

In order to deepen players understanding, Weisnewski offered the Graviton Lance as an example, going on to say that feedback on the weapon is positive on a cosmetic level but it is not a viable weapon for getting kills in various PVP scenarios. To fix this, Bungie is reducing the recoil of the first burst while also introducing new aim assist measures and changing the three shot burst to a two-round burst.

Math Offers An Edge

“This still plays into the fantasy of a low-damage gravity-neutralizing round forming a projectile tunnel for the last bullet,” he said. “It also allows us to ensure the damage per burst is at a competitive level for PVP engagements. In fact, it gives Graviton a slight mathematical edge against other pulse rifles.”  (http://bit.ly/2sAaVIb)

According to Weisnewski, this is only one of the ways Destiny 2’s Exotics are changing. Currently, the weapons not being eyed for updates are Merciless, Telesto, Wardcliff Coil, MIDA Multi Tool, Colony, Legend of Acrius, and Vigilance Wing. Bungie decided that these weapons already encapsulated the feeling they wanted the players to have when using one of these ultra-rare weapons.

Some Gear Gets a Touch Up

“We’ll be touching a lot of powerful gear with this update and to truly understand the impact for players requires a lot of design iteration and test time,” Weisnewski said. “It isn’t enough to crank up the damage and run one strike or Crucible match with a gun and helmet and move on. Dialing in the right amount of power, testing in all activities with all types of load outs, finding the bugs, fixing the bugs, updating the perk description text to reflect new behaviour, and then handing that off to localization for translation–it’s a ton of work, but we’re up to it. We sincerely appreciate your patience. I believe it will be worth the wait.” (http://bit.ly/2sAaVIb)

As Bungie has previously detailed on Destiny 2’s roadmap, these changes are expected to go into effect on March 27th when both the Sandbox and Crucible update are launched as part of patch 1.1.4. Right now players can still take part in the Valentines day event, Crimson Days, which adds a 2v2 Crucible playlist. Those that take part have the chance to get there hands on a variety of new loot specific to the limited time event.

Spyro The Dragon Remastered Glides To The PlayStation 4

Spyro The Dragon Remastered Glides To The PlayStation 4

This September is a special one for Spyro The Dragon fans. 20 years ago, the original Spyro was released on PlayStation 1. Kotaku reported late yesterday, 2/13/18, that multiple sources insist Activision is currently working on a Spyro The Dragon Trilogy Remaster. The official announcement is expected to come in March of 2018 and will be slated for release in Q3 2018.

Longtime PlayStation fans might be experiencing a bit of déjà vu. The Spyro remaster is expected to be similar to the extremely successful Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. New animations, cinematics, improved graphics, assets and a remastered soundtrack will all create the brand new original Spyro The Dragon Trilogy, Ripto’s Rage! (Gateway to Glimmer as it’s known in Europe and Australia), and Year of the Dragon.

New Content for the Purple Dragon

There is also a chance that the trilogy will include previously cut content that never made it in the original games. No word on what this content could possibly be but when looking at the N. Sane Trilogy, Crash received the Stormy Ascent level that could only be reached with a GameShark back on the original version.

Multiple sources report that the remastered Spyro The Dragon Trilogy will be exclusive on PS4 for one year before reaching other platforms. It will also come with PS4 Pro support. This temporary exclusivity is another similarity shared between the upcoming Spyro game and the N. Sane Trilogy. If the success of the N. Sane Trilogy is any indication of the popularity of these classic video game franchises, a Spyro The Dragon remaster has a great chance of succeeding on any platform it reaches.

Old Classics Get New Life

Activision is clearly impressed with the success of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and wants to continue offering gamers the content they enjoy. Older titles like Shadow of The Colossus, Crash Bandicoot and now Spyro went down in history as revered classics. It’s been incredible to watch developers like Activision breathe new life into the titles. It gives gamers that may have missed the original releases a second chance to go along for these adventures or longtime fans an opportunity to play these games on modern consoles.

These reports have come from Kotaku UK citing unidentified sources and have yet to be confirmed by Activision. Gigamax Games will be keeping a close eye on how this story continues to develop. Check back on this page for any new details that bubble to the surface. Once March comes around and if Activision makes the official announcement, don’t forget to stop by on GigamaxGames.com for the latest report and any additional insight into the upcoming Spyro remaster.

Nintendo Switch Lifecycle May Extend Past 5-6 Years

Nintendo Switch Lifecycle May Extend Past 5-6 Years

The lifecycle of a typical console is around 5-6 years. With a few exceptions, this has been the standard for the big three video game companies Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony. Although Nintendo now believes that their latest addition to the console market, the Nintendo Switch, could potentially be around longer than previously expected.

During an investor Q&A, Nintendo’s Sigeru Miyamoto expressed that he believes the Nintendo Switch could be around longer due to the unprecedented hybrid nature of the console. He also feels that Nintendo’s efforts to create unique and original content for the platform could keep it on store shelves for years to come.

The Nintendo Switch Breakthrough

“When you think about what can be done with the Nintendo Switch as a device that can be taken on the go and that every person has in their hands to play, you realize it has many features not available on any other hardware to date,” Miyamoto said. “Nintendo also has a system in place whereby the software developers focus on these hardware features in their development efforts for the continuation of the Nintendo Switch business.” (http://bit.ly/2CeDsCZ)

Miyamoto went on to say “Up until now, the hardware lifecycle has trended at around five or six years, but it would be very interesting if we could prolong that life cycle, and I think you should be looking forward to that.” (http://bit.ly/2CeDsCZ)

Nintendo director Shinya Takahashi added that the company had junior level developers working closely with higher management to create a multitude of interesting products that are both fun to play and can reach a wide audience.

Nintendo Switch, nintendo, nintendo console, video game news, gaming news, video game media, gigamax games, gigamax

Nintendo Changing The Game

“Behind the unceasing stream of Nintendo Switch software releases to date is an approach to development that concentrates on development, itself the fruit of efforts several years ago to integrate the software development teams, which has made it easier to organize teams.” (http://bit.ly/2CeDsCZ)

To give some perspective, Nintendo released their previous console, the Wii U back in 2012 and ended production in January 2017. The Switch launched in March 2017 and already outsold the Wii U’s lifetime sales in a 10 month period. If Miyamoto’s beliefs hold true, the company could have the console on the market until 2023 or beyond.

As of now, some of Nintendo’s biggest IP’s already made its way to the console with plenty more on the way. The company previously stated that they want to see all of their games come to the Switch, but the biggest fans are holding out for word on a new Animal Crossing and Super Smash Bros. Hopefully, the console’s popularity doesn’t falter and the community can continue to enjoy this system for as long as Nintendo sees it is a contender.

RIME Indie Game Spotlight on YouTube

RIME Indie Game Spotlight on YouTube

RIME is one of those mysterious abstract puzzles from the first second the game begins. Waking up, alone on a desert island with nothing but the clothes on your back and the crabs at your feet, the story has yet to come into focus. Developed by Tequila Works and released in 2017, RIME faced mixed reviews from the critics and fans. Always preferring a first-hand look at a game, the Gigamax crew decided it was time to see for themselves.

The game is beautiful but the sea is absolutely the superior environment. The land seemed a bit stiff but the water physics and graphics really were in a league of their own when compared to the land. Even so, the cell shading was enjoyable and easy on the eyes when walking around the interesting world of RIME.
