Capcom Announces 6 New Characters for Street Fighter 5

Capcom Announces 6 New Characters for Street Fighter 5

Capcom officially revealed six new fighters for their ultra-popular brawler, Street Fighter 5, at the end of Capcom Cup 2017. The additional cast of characters mixes a few old time fan favorites with two brand-new fighters for the series.

Fans of the Alpha series will recognize Sakura and Cody, where both characters made their debut. Old time street fighter fans will also be excited to hear that Sagat and Blanka, who have been around since Street Fighter 2 will be making their way into the fish installment of the game. The game will be receiving two new characters, G, a stately looking bearded gentleman wearing a tophat that would make Abraham Lincoln blush and Falke, the second new female fighter who has a close connection to Ed.

Season 3 Details and More

All six characters are a part of Street Fighter 5’s Season 3 content. The announcement shocked fans at the event. Typically Capcom has shown off new fighters one character at a time but this time it was different.

Sakura will make her debut on January 16, 2018, when the recently announced Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition comes out. The new fighter also comes with her Story, Battle, and Nostalgic costumes. She also arrives with a new stage, the Kasugano Residence which is based on her Alpha 2 stage. Want to see both the stage and Sakura in action? Check out the reveal trailer above!

While Capcom has yet to reveal release dates for the rest of the characters, they did show them off in a new flashy cinematic trailer.

Also during Capcom Cup, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection was revealed. It contains twelve games from across the series, including the original Street Fighter, Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, and Street Fighter Alpha 3. Fans can expect this collection to arrive in May 2018 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC.

Capcom Cup was a big event for Street Fighter fans. Not only did they receive news that they were getting six new fighters for the game’s most recent installment but a new collection of the series’ biggest hits. If you recently stopped playing Street Fighter 5 now is the perfect time to dust off those moves and get ready to take on friends with a whole new set of characters.

New Badge System

Also coming with the update is a new “badge” system that will award players for completing specific challenges. For example, one will be awarded for completing a tough run through the campaign or playing a certain amount of fights with one character. Nintendo was not clear about a release date but the trailer made it clear it will be coming later this month. This article will be updated when the launch date is announced, so don’t forget to check back!

Nintendo certainly hasn’t been shy when it comes to releasing free updates for their popular new brawler. The last update saw a new clown type character, Lola Pop, enter the ring along with Max Brawler in the update before her. New stages have also been added throughout the game’s lifecycle, including Sparring Ring and Villa Dolce and shows that the company has no plans to slow down support for the game. Training exercises were also added so that fans could practice their skills and moves for online play, so if you put down ARMS, now is a great time to throw the gloves back on.

This announcement comes in the wake of Nintendo’s plan to increase production of the Switch to 2 million units per month to meet the console’s high demand. Capcom Reveals New Street Fighter 5 Character

Capcom Reveals New Street Fighter 5 Character

Capcom officially revealed Menat, a brand new DLC fighter for Street Fighter 5. A trailer for the new character was unveiled during the Hong Kong Esports festival which is currently the home for the Capcom Pro Tour. Players will have the chance to get their hands on the fighter on August 29th.

Menat is a female Egyptian character that primarily uses orbs as her weapon of choice. Fans of the series are comparing her to Rose from the Street Fighter Alpha/Zero games. Much like Rose, Menat has the ability to reflect projectiles and can summon her orbs to form a barrier around her using the V-Trigger special.

Menat’s Orbs Are Deadly

While Menat seems like a fairly complex character meant for advanced players, she looks deadly in the hands of veteran fighters. While using the character, players can position orbs around the field to control areas and launch them at opponents as well as call them back. The orbs make extending lengthy combos and juggling a breeze and seems like the perfect way to set up brutal attacks and manage distance.

Menat also has a few other tricks up her sleeve. For one, she can use a powerful divekick to close distance and has a few grab moves at her disposal. She also has access to a teleport in the form of a V-Reversal which means trapping her in a corner will not be an easy task. Capcom has also detailed the various costumes that will be available for the character when she launches.

Menat will cost players $6 or can be gained from the $30 expansion pass for season 2 which also includes Akuma, Kolin, Ed, and Abigail. Capcom also revealed new costumes for a variety of the characters in the game to coincide with Menat’s release. Each of the new costumes will cost players $4 and will celebrate the game’s 30th anniversary.
