Sega issued an exciting announcement today. The company officially revealed Valkyria Chronicles 4 and gave it a release window of Spring 2018. Also revealed was that the highly anticipated RPG is making its way to the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
The Next Step In The Adventure
The fourth installment of the series is set in the same timeline as the previous entries, taking place in 1935 with a World War II inspired battle taking place between the Atlantic Federation and the Autocratic Eastern Imperial Alliance. In a press release from Sega they offered more insight into the story behind Valkyria Chronicles 4, “Although the Federation struggles valiantly against the Empire’s forces, the relentless imperial military machine threatens to consume them. With victory slipping away, the Federation executes Operation Northern Cross: a last-ditch attempt to capture the imperial capital and end the war. Commander Claude Wallace and his loyal childhood friends in Squad E are sent to fight for the desperate operation’s success, but they will have to endure harsh bone-chilling elements, waves of imperial soldiers, and the terrifying Valkyria… and unravel a grave truth that will shake them to the core.”
Valkyria Chronicles 4 keeps the same tactical RPG style the previous entries are famous for. Combat is handled in the game’s strange blend of turn-based strategy, RPG, and third-person shooting. A new class is also being added to the game currently known as The Grenadier along with more battleship support options. The developers are still keeping their unique art style in the game that is inspired by water color paintings.
The long-term composer for the series, Hitoshi Sakimoto, will be returning to make the soundtrack for the game. Sega also released a teaser website for the game to help build hype, but as of now, there isn’t much content to be found.
This is an exciting announcement for anyone that has followed this long-running series since 2008. As we draw closer to Spring of next year, more details are sure to be released so be sure to keep checking back with GigamaxGames.com for all the latest in gaming news and industry updates.
It seems that every few months Blizzard likes to change the meta for their insanely popular hero based shooter, Overwatch. This time around their monthly update includes changes to the way D.Va and Mercy operate. As of now, these updates are live on the PTR for gamers to test out and fans will notice that those aren’t the only changes.
The most robust overhaul is coming to the popular healer, Mercy, who is getting a completely different ultimate. Not to worry though, she can still resurrect people only now it’s a standard ability. Instead of reviving all her teammates with her ultimate, now it only resurrects one partner within five meters, has a 30 second cool down, and she is not invincible while casting the power.
The Dawn of Valkyrie
Her new ultimate is aptly named Valkyrie, which according to Blizzard “unleashes the full power of Mercy’s Valkyrie suit.” This power buffs both her suit and weapons in an extraordinary way. Check out the full list of what happens when the ultimate activates:
Caduceus Staff: Mercy’s healing and damage boost beams now affect all allies near the targeted teammate, and the staff’s effective range has been extended
Caduceus Blaster: Granted infinite ammo, while simultaneously increasing damage and fire rate
Guardian Angel: Increased range and movement speed
Resurrect: Cooldown is instantly reset when Valkyrie is activated and reduced to 10s after the initial cast
Hover: Mercy gains the ability to fly freely, at increased movement speed
Regeneration (Passive): No longer interrupted when Mercy takes damage
Blizzard explains why they decided to update the beloved healer, “While resurrecting downed allies is a core part of Mercy’s gameplay, the way her Ultimate functioned was causing a number of problems,” they continued “It was frustrating to play against, and it incentivized Mercy players to hide away from important battles, instead of taking part in them. This version turns Resurrect into a single target ability. It’s still an important part of Mercy’s kit, but plays much better for both Mercy players and her enemies. Valkyrie, the new Ultimate, gives her the opportunity to make big game-making plays and opens a number of new options for her.”
Also new to the update are Blizzards previously detailed and controversial changes to the way D.Va plays. To make her a more formidable attacker she’s been given a cluster of micro-missiles as well as the ability to fly and shoot at the same time. Sound a little unfair? It probably is and that’s why they are also nerfing the recharge rate of her defense matrix. Finally, the only other character change is while Reinhardt has his shield up players can click the attack button and spin the camera 360 degrees.
Overwatch fans are certainly voicing their opinions on the latest changes and as usual they range from anger to overt happiness. We hear at Gigamax just love to watch the chaos following a dramatic update to this insanely popular game. It is not surprising that fans get so emotional during these times considering how invested many players are and the competitive nature of the game.
It has been a little over a week since Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was released and the developers are already patching a variety of bugs that have been plaguing players. While the independently developed game was praised as one of the best games to come out this year, it certainly had its issues. That’s why the developer, Ninja Theory, rushed to get this patch out detailed here on their blog.
There were bugs that would break the game or stop character progression entirely and these were the first to be addressed. They also fix a variety of collision issues that would send the player out of the game world and make it impossible to proceed. PC players will also be happy to hear that an issue involving the menu not loading has been patched.
There’s No Stopping Ninja Theory
Ninja Theory doesn’t plan on stopping either. The blog post also detailed that they’re still hard at work looking into bug reports so expect more updates in the near future. One patch, in particular, is the performance issues that PC players with AMD GPUs have experienced.
Below we have a full list of the patch notes that you can also find on Ninja Theory’s blog. While releasing broken games should never be acceptable, it’s hard for a small development team to take care of all the issues right at launch, sometimes it takes time for the community to find the problems and aid in pointing out where they are. Hellblade was an excellent game that should be in every gamers library especially after the patch. Gigamax managed to beat the game while only encountering one game breaking bug. If you’ve had issues make sure you report it to email@example.com.

Between August 25th and September 3rd, select players will have the chance to give this arcade fighter a try.
Registration is now live and gamers have until August 20th to sign up for their chance to try out Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. Bluehole had some upsetting news for fans of PUBG as the highly anticipated Public Test Server update was put on hold. According to the developer, “the test server build is not stable enough to roll out.”(http://bit.ly/2u2wodh). The patch they have lined up is a substantial one, including new weapons, skins, and a car horn. Due to complications with a client crash bug, the July monthly update will now be moved to the 3rd of August.
See what’s waiting for players in the next big patch and find a preview of just how big PUBG is becoming.
What You Can Expect
One of the additions to the patch which made people lose their minds is the addition of a horn. Drivers can now honk their horns which will default to the left mouse button. Tweet after Tweet, people expressed their approval as though this filled a serious void within the battleground.
The New Boom Stick
Get ready for a new weapon, the Mark 14 Enhanced Battle Rifle. The Mk14 EBR, chambered in 7.62 will accept all sniper attachments and have a selective fire option, too. This means players can either use it to sweep a room or pick off enemies at a distance. It will be exclusive to crates, so expect this new gun to be falling out of the sky August 3rd.
A New Look
Ready for a makeover? PUBG’s monthly update will include its first new face presets and new hairstyles. These will come at a cost and are expected to be priced at 3,000 in-game currency.
Time To Get Hardcore
First-Person Only servers will be one of the most impressive game changing updates that have come to PUBG. Creating a more hardcore shooter experience, players will have the option to choose between standard and first-person only servers. This means looking around corners or over cover will expose a player instead of them having the ability to just move around the camera.
This option will cater to the more hardcore crowd but could also be a nice change of pace for casual players. It will be important to keep in mind the lean buttons (defaulted to Q and E) which will greatly increase a players chance of survival.
Bluehole will, of course, be sticking to their regular maintenance with the latest patch. A few UI changes, user experience update, and server stability will be included. For a more detailed look at the subtle changes, take a look at Blueholes official announcement.
PUBG Just Keeps On Growing
PUBG just hit a major milestone. Selling over 6 million copies according to Bluehole and the game also reached a new concurrent peak personal record of 481,291. This substantial growth has put PUBG ahead of Fallout 4 in the Steam charts. Indie games continue to surpass all expectations. With games like PUBG making headlines and breaking records, there’s no telling what the future has in store for indie developers and their artwork.

Every fan of zombie fiction has at some point asked themselves “what would I do in a zombie apocalypse?” The indie developer, Quantum Integrity, is looking to help answer this question with their upcoming sandbox survival game Dead Matter. Originally developed as a mod for Crysis 2 back in 2013, the team behind the game put their heart and soul behind this project and it shows. With multiplayer, near endless customization, a humongous living world, and full mod support Dead Matter is quickly becoming the zombie survival experience everyone has been waiting for.
Kickstarter & A Dream
Quantum Integrity boasts on their Kickstarter page that Dead Matter is “true sandbox survival horror.” Players will get to fight through the zombie apocalypse however they see fit. That can include setting up a home base and defending it with their expansive crafting or barricading system all while cultivating the land or wandering the wasteland scavenging whatever tools, vehicles, weapons, and the food they can find. Set in the province of Alberta, Canada players will be able to experience the game alone or with friends as the developer intends to support both play styles equally.

Freedom of expression is an important design choice for Quantum Integrity. Customization features have been at the core of Dead Matter since the games original inception. It starts with the character design where hair, head, and body can all be changed to whatever the player desires. When actually playing the game, customization extends to nearly every facet of the experience including weapons, vehicles, and buildings. Want to wrap a baseball bat in barbed wire? Go right ahead. Strapping C4 onto a programmable alarm clock? Perfectly fine! Turn the family van into a zombie survivalist’s dream ride? Strap some defenses and gun racks on that bad boy and call it a day.
Alberta, Canada: Zombie Paradise
In order to help nurture the ideas of their player base, the developer built a stunning recreation of Alberta that contains the lush wilderness of the Rockies and extends to the once bustling city of Calgary. Designed to simulate true survival any simple trip for supplies could turn into a battle against soldiers, raiders, or a family just doing what they have to in order to survive. The world was also fully designed in order to support the player’s settlements. Every building in the game is made to be barricaded, upgraded, and fitted with electricity and running water. All of the land can be farmed and the lakes can be fished. Live in the shadows of the city and survive in the wild or work together with the community to retake the city of Calgary by taking control of dams, transformers, and bridges.

Finally, to assert their connection with the fan base and support where the game got its start, Quantum Integrity comes packed with full mod support. All of the procedural generation tools are being put into the players’ hands as well as C++ and Blueprint access. Any user can host their own server complete with all of their own settings and mods completely free of charge. The team over at Quantum Integrity are modders at their core and it shows through their devotion to the modding community.
Dead Matter looks like an amazing survival experience that we just couldn’t wait to back on Kickstarter. If this game sounds appealing to you, don’t forget to show the team some support by throwing them some money or showing them love on social media. We can’t wait to get our hands on this gem so be sure to keep checking back for more information as the game continues through its development process!
Xbox Boss Confirms Xbox One X Pre-Orders Open Soon

Replying to a fan on Twitter, Spencer confirmed that the company was simply waiting for approvals before opening up the pre orders.
Our plan is set for this. All approvals are done so now just landing the announce with all the info, won’t be too much longer.
Finally revealed at E3 2017, the Xbox One X was Microsoft’s long disguised Project Scorpio. This powerful device is their response to the PS4 Pro and will allegedly be the most powerful gaming console on the market. When the pre-orders eventually open, the console will run buyers US $500, £ 449, and AU $649. The device will be hitting store shelves on November 7th globally and according to the company, it is the smallest console they have ever sold. Indie developer Uppercut Games, a team comprised of former Bioshock developers, has announced their latest adventure ‘City of Brass’. This upcoming first person rouguelite adventure puts an Arabian Nights twist on the genre that’s a welcomed change from the typical dungeon delves. The City of Brass is an extremely dangerous place for wary adventurers but can prove rewarding for those who take on what lies beneath the sand. Players can expect to take on a variety of dangerous spirits and be forced to avoid deadly traps on their quest to achieve wealth beyond their wildest dreams.
The player will take the role of a determined and cunning thief armed only with a trusty scimitar and a whip which can be used to disarm, trip, or stun enemies. Gameplay sounds very much like the Prince of Persia series, requiring the hero to swing across gaps, climb up objects, and destroy barricades in his journey to lay claim to the countless treasures. Traps will also be littered throughout the procedurally generated map including sharp blades to slide under, spears that must be dodged, and the stereotypical arrows coming out of holes in the wall. Players will also have to avoid crumbling ledges and poison gas traps, but all of these obstacles can be used to gain an advantage over enemies, if approached tactically.
The team behind the game sounds incredibly passionate about the project with the lead designer, Ed Orman offering more insight into the game, “Developing a game with multiple, interacting systems that players can freely combine feels like a return to our roots, drawing on our experiences working on BioShock and many of our other favorites. Players must learn how to use the traps to kill their foes, and even turn enemies against each other. You’ll perish in the City of Brass – often, and quite horribly – but as your skills improve and you discover new ways to cheat death, you’ll return to fight another day.”
This adventure is expected to release this fall and we here at Gigamax can’t wait to start our journey through the desert. It is always exciting to see a passionate group of indie developers take on a dream project, and that’s exactly what this game sounds like it will be. This title is sure to impress so be sure to keeping check back for more information on City of Brass!
Gamestop officially released their earnings report for the first fiscal quarter of 2017 and things are looking surprisingly good for the gaming retailer. The company showed that sales were up year over year which they credit to the “robust” sales of the Nintendo Switch.
Their total global sales were up to $2.05 billion, which is up 3.8% from last year while their comparable store sales were up 2.3%. Gamestop’s international sales jumped an astounding 17.1%, but unfortunately their U.S. sales were down 2.3%. Thanks to the Switch releasing in March, their new hardware sales were up by 24.6% but new software was down 2.3%. Gamestop attributes the poor software sales to the overlap of major game release dates last year.
The company’s net earnings were down to $59 million from $65.8 million, but that doesn’t mean the company was hurting everywhere. In particular, the company started to dabble in collectable sales which were up 39.1% to $114.5 million. Popular Pokemon collectibles are flying off the shelves and their purchase of ‘ThinkGeek Inc’ greatly expanded their stock of merchandise. Gamestop also said that their technology brand sales were up 21.5% to $201.4 million.
Gamespot Weighs In
Popular gaming news site Gamespot held a conference call with the company yesterday which offered some interesting information. Gamestop sold more copies of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the wild then they did Nintendo Switch consoles, they are also reportedly selling out of Switch’s online before they even get to the warehouses. The retailer also stressed their continued support of VR as Playstation VR remains their Number 1 product, they also said that there will be more discussion surrounding VR at E3 this June. Gamestop had some more interesting talking points that you can find here over focused on Gamestop’s report.
We here at Gigamax are excited to see more about this information on VR they are supposedly announcing at E3. With VR hardware becoming more popular in the industry, any news about the medium is highly anticipated. As expected, digital downloads seem to be cutting into their profits but not nearly as much as we expected. As always, make sure to keep checking back with GigamaxGames.com for more information on everything gaming industry related!
Blizzard Entertainment Inc. recently announced the formation of a new division which will oversee Overwatch’s esports efforts. This will be a separate entity from Blizzard’s current Esports division and will use the Major League Gaming name and all of the organization’s assets which the company acquired in 2015 for $46 million. Blizzard made a statement back in November of 2016 that it planned to launch an Overwatch league with hopes of building the “world’s premier esports league.”
The new division will oversee management, operation, sales and distribution for all Overwatch’s esports programs which include the upcomingOverwatch World Cup and Overwatch League. The Overwatch World Cup finals will take place at BlizzCon 2017. It will be interesting to see how the finals go as Blizzard has complete control over every facet of their hit titles’ championship event.
What’s The Official Word?
“The new division which will retain the MLG name, will build on Blizzard’s nearly 20-year history as a leader in esports and leverage MLG’s extensive experience with live events and content distribution,” Blizzards press release read. “It will also operate the MLG-branded media network, which will broadcast both Blizzard and Activision esports content as well as other premium gaming programming.” http://pvp.live/2q1Rxkr
Blizzard thinks Overwatch is the next big thing and it’s beginning to look as if they’re absolutely right. However, the organization isn’t putting all their eggs in one basket. Their other games will continue to be run by Blizzard’s original team for games like, StarCraft II, Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, and World of Warcraft, leveraging the MLG division’s sales, media production and distribution capabilities along the way.
Nowhere To Go But Up
Esports continues to become more popular, gaining international attention and expanding every year. Blizzard is an economic powerhouse and it’ll be exciting to see how far Overwatch can go in the esports world with a dedicated division focused on the development and expansion of Overwatch’s competitive presence. However, Blizzard’s new division could just be a way for the company to keep tabs on the quality control of all Overwatch tournaments, media and advertising. Only time will tell how or if this new move will impact MLG’s future. Be sure to check back on Gigamax soon for the latest gaming industry developments.
