Everything You Need to Know About Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Everything You Need to Know About Shadow of the Tomb Raider

The third installment of the rebooted Tomb Raider series will be released this September. From the trailers and extended gameplay videos, Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks every bit as good as Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider. As with each new installment, there will be some changes that will take the game to the next level. Here is everything we know about Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

rise of the tomb raider, tomb raider, gaming, video games, game footage, game play

The biggest change is how players can now customize the difficulty levels to suit their play style. In the previous two titles, the difficulty settings covered every aspect of the game. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider players will have the option to change the difficulty settings for combat, puzzles, and environment traversal. This will allow players who prefer the fighting aspect of the game to have the combat setting on hard and the puzzles on an easier difficulty. The game can now be tailored to a player’s preference.

Lara Evolves and Gamers Benefit

As with Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara has evolved to become much better at taking down her enemies. IGN reports that Lara can now cover herself in mud to enhance her stealth mode. She will also have a wider range of weapon upgrades. One exciting addition includes the fear arrow, which causes enemies to attack each other.

The map is also much bigger than before. The immense vertical spaces will offer plenty of opportunities for Lara to rappel, swing, wall walk, and use her rope and climbing axes. Swimming and underwater exploration will also be featured more prominently in the new game, as there is a plant that Lara can consume to extend her the amount of time she can hold her breath. There will be many more side quests and stories that reveal hidden tombs, artifacts, crypts, and other interesting locations and items.

The story will continue on from Rise of the Tomb Raider as Lara fights the evil Trinity. This time she will face them in Latin America and among Mayan ruins. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara will not only be saving the world from Trinity, but also fixing her own actions after she sets off the Mayan apocalypse.

No End in Sight for Tomb Raider

With the Tomb Raider franchise continuing to be successful more than 20 years after it was first released is a testament to the how ingrained the character has become in pop culture. We reported that this year the original 1996 Tomb Raider was inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is just the latest in the media empire that is the Tomb Raider franchise – one that’s been conquering multiple gaming and entertainment platforms for years.

Lara Croft continues to find new fans with the character being featured in games outside of the traditional adventure platform titles. Leading gaming platform Slingo has several titles adapted from popular video games, including the slot game Lara Croft Tomb Raider. While the game may lack the open world adventure of the new series, it features all the elements that have made Tomb Raider popular across the globe: Lara Croft, exotic locations, and ancient puzzles.

Outside of the gaming industry, the franchise has also continued to thrive. This year, a film adapted from the 2013 game was released starring Alicia Vikander. In 2018, Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider franchise has never been stronger.

It has been a three year wait for fans of Tomb Raider, and soon they will be able to once again experience a new adventure. From the violent opening that was shown off at gaming conventions, it looks like Shadow of the Tomb Raider will take the series further forward, and be another instant classic worthy of the franchise.

QuakeCon 2018: Rage 2 Gameplay and New Story Details

QuakeCon 2018: Rage 2 Gameplay and New Story Details

Bethesda isn’t holding back on new game announcements at this year’s QuakeCon 2018. On top of breaking the news about the next title in their DOOM franchise, DOOM Eternal, the company had a ton of new reveals for their other FPS, Rage 2. Fans can expect to see this title hit PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019. Unfortunately, the developer’s love for the Nintendo Switch will not be extended to Rage 2 like it has been for DOOM Eternal.

Rage Fans Like What They See

Fans of the original Rage will certainly be pleased with the gameplay demo Bethesda revealed during the Keynote. The new game keeps up the high paced action the series is known for with plenty of explosions, fast cars, guns, and murder to keep players entertained. The video points out a number of story details like who your character is and why they’re going out of their way to kill off an entity simply called “The Authority”. Another detail made clear during the demo was that Rage 2 is set 30 years after the first game.

Players will be surprised to see that the desert world from Rage has been replaced by a newly budding planet with pockets of flora and fauna spread across the sprawling landscape. Thankfully, traversing this beautiful open world will be a breeze thanks to the lack of any loading screens and the multitude of vehicles to drive and fight in.

Who’s Ready for Some Combat?

Enemies are broken up into actions in Rage 2 and the video showed off the different ways enemies will engage with the protagonist throughout their mission. The first group of marauders the demo featured was the Goon Squad, which use ultra-violent and aggressive tactics that will surely keep players on the move. Bethesda then showed off The Shrouded, another group of bandits that managed to get their hands on some fancy military grade technology.

For a more detailed look into how Rage 2 will operate, check out the gameplay demo above. We here at Gigamax Games are big fans of the first Rage and can’t wait to see what Bethesda has planned for the upcoming sequel. Be sure to keep checking back for more updates.

Everything Announced in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct

Everything Announced in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct

On Wednesday, August 8th Nintendo held a Direct for their upcoming game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Needless to say, the entire gaming community was waiting in anticipation for whatever the company was ready to announce. Nintendo certainly didn’t hold back any punches during the direct, revealing more than enough information to keep the hype train moving faster than ever before.

Those that missed the direct can watch it below or look at our collection of the biggest announcements made throughout the presentation.

Luigi is Dead… JK! Simon and Richter Belmont Join the Fight

That’s right! Super Smash Bros. Ultimate isn’t just getting the first protagonist of the popular side-scroller Castlevania, it’s also adding Richter Belmont from the title Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. While Richter is currently being considered the echo fighter to Simon, Super Smash Bros. developer Sakurai clarified that they both use moves unique to their games so it is hard to tell who is echoing the other. The characters utilize a host of different items from their Dracula killing adventures including: The signature whip, crosses, axe, and holy water. Their move sets include a variety of long ranged tactics that can absolutely devastate the competition.

To keep the Castlevania theme going strong, Nintendo revealed that Simon’s stage would be Dracula’s castle and include 34 tracks from the collection of games set in this famous location. Different villains and bosses from Castlevania will hop in to disrupt the fight and leave chaos in their wake, even Dracula himself will sometimes grace the battlefield with his presence.

Finally, to wrap up the Castlevania news, Nintendo revealed that the hero Alucard would be joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an assist trophy. The character uses his abilities from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night to take out foes and dodge attacks. Don’t worry, he can still be knocked out, but it will certainly take some skill.

Chrom and Dark Samus are Ready for Battle

Two more highly anticipated fighters are joining the fight. Both Chrom and Dark Samus are making their way to the battlefield in the form of echo fighters for Lucina and Samus respectively. Fans have been asking for these characters for quite some time so it’s no surprise that Nintendo included them on the roster.

Chrom fights identically to Lucina with a few extra tricks thrown in and he appears to be faster than the character he’s based on.

Dark Samus seems to be a much more mobile version of Samus with a move set that utilizes the dark tools at the villains’ disposal. Also, the creature floats in its idle animation!

SO MANY STAGES!

Nintendo revealed that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will have a staggering 103 stages, This number doesn’t even include the omega and battlefield version that each map can be transformed into. Every stage can be played with up to eight players, and, for the first time, Nintendo is allowing players to turn off stage hazards to fight without any interruptions. Take a look at all the returning and new stages they revealed below!

Transforming Stages

A new way to play your favorite maps is heading to the next entry in Super Smash Bros. Stage Morph is exactly what it sounds like, during the duration of a match one stage will turn into another which the players choose at the beginning. As shown in the screenshot above, this style of play comes with plenty of options to experience and is perfect for the group that just can’t agree on what map to play. (But let’s be honest, winner’s choice is the only way to play!)

Nintendo Heard You Like Their Music

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, nintendo direct, nintendo news, super smash bros ultimate news, super smash news, video game news, gaming news, video game media, gigamax, gigamax games

800 songs, over 1000 including fanfare/soundtracks, and 24 hours of total music. This is the boisterous claim that Nintendo made during the Direct. Fans that have a hankering for some tunes from their favorite video games have the ability to listen to any song in the game whenever they feel like it.

Players are even allowed to make playlists of their own. During fights, each maps soundtrack is now based on the series it represents instead of each having their own individual playlist. Much like the last entry, players can go into the options and adjust the frequency at which each song plays on an individual map.

The Rules Are Changing

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, nintendo direct, nintendo news, super smash bros ultimate news, super smash news, video game news, gaming news, video game media, gigamax, gigamax games

The order that players set up their matches is also changing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Instead of it being player select followed by map selections it now goes: Rules, Map, Fighters. Nintendo says this makes things more organized and even allows fans to make their own rule sets for quick selection.

On top of time and stock battle, Super Smash is now treating stamina battle as a standard option due to the intense nature of these fights. Sudden Death has been made more nail-biting with the addition of a screen that constantly moves closer to the combatants in order to speed up the finale. Nintendo also added an option that allows players to charge their final smash throughout the course of a match, which results in a weaker version of the ultimate move.

New Battle Modes

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, nintendo direct, nintendo news, super smash bros ultimate news, super smash news, video game news, gaming news, video game media, gigamax, gigamax games

A host of new and returning game modes are available for players looking for new ways to take on their friends or play alone including: Squad Strike, Tourney, Smashdown, Training Mode, and Classic Mode. The one mode that players may not recognize here is Smashdown, which is a brand new way to play that eliminates chosen fighters after a match, making players choose a new character after every round.

Items, Pokemon, and Assist Trophies… OH MY!

Super Smash Bros. is certainly no stranger to items, but Ultimate has the largest collection of wacky extras the series has ever seen. A new variety of items has been added and Nintendo showed plenty of them off during the Direct. Take a look at all the new stuff they revealed in the gallery below!

Cosplay at Overwatch League Finals Barclays Center NY

The last battles of the Overwatch League Finals have been fought. Its outcome sparked both cheers and tears, filling the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. London Spitfire’s took home the trophy for the first, in what will hopefully be a long history of championship rounds.

Cosplay at Overwatch League Finals Barclays Center NY

While there was plenty of hype surrounding the competitive superstars and their superb skills, the other side of Overwatch’s fandom made a strong appearance at the finals. The spectacular cosplay highlighted the awe and dedication that has made the series so famous. These cosplayers spend countless hours putting together costumes to show their love for the colorful cast of characters the game has to offer.

Cosplay Spotted at Overwatch League Finals

Gigamax Games was lucky enough to attend the final matches of the Overwatch League. Besides the impressive scale of this massive video game tournament, the cosplay stood out.

The arena was packed full of dedicated fans and you didn’t have to go far to find someone dressed up in a very accurate representation of their favorite hero. One of the many amazing Cosplays we saw was a Widowmaker donning an outfit that replicated the character’s Black Lily skin. It is immediately evident that a ton of commitment was put in to accurately portray the purple villain. With body paint, an elegant dress, high heels, and even the signature sniper/automatic rifle this Cosplay was a perfect example of one fans love for Overwatch.

One Shot, One Kill

Other Cosplayers made full suits of armor for their costumes, dedicating time and effort to make sure every piece matched up to its virtual counterpart. Another fantastic cosplay we saw roaming the halls of the Overwatch League Finals was a Brigitte dressed in the colors of the New York Excelsior’s. Of course, cosplaying comes with its fair share of struggles, mainly being surrounded by people who want a picture with the character and to learn about the hard work that went into making the costume. But this only goes to show how integral Cosplayers are to the Overwatch League experience and getting fellow fans excited for the festivities.

Rally To Me!

An insanely detailed portrayal of Junkrat made an appearance. This would make any fan stop and double take to make sure the fictional Australian criminal wasn’t there. Blizzard certainly showed these fans love on the final day of the event, pulling some of the best Cosplayers there during one of the intermissions between matches.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!

What’s Next?

With the Overwatch League Finals come and gone, we already can’t wait to see what Blizzard has planned for next year’s grand event. More importantly, we are hyped to see what Cosplayers put together for their costumes, hopefully, we’ll finally see an Orisa!

Make some noise for Quiet!

Three years after its release, Metal Gear Solid V releases a brand new patch. The multiplayer mode received its first update in a year. New weapons, gadgets and difficulty missions have been added, too. Fans of the series will also be happy to hear gamers can play as Quiet to infiltrate FOB missions as well as having access to additional difficulties.

GTA Online: After Hours

Rockstar Games brought the world of Grand Theft Auto V, GTA Online: After Hours. The most profitable entertainment product of all time is giving gamers the chance to create their own entertainment for the crime-ridden online world.

  • Turf wars take on a new light with Business Battles. This is a first-come-first-serve opportunity for business owners, MCs and Organizations to steal “product” for their personal gain.
  • GTA Online: After Hours is also bringing seven new vehicles to Grand Theft Auto 5.

One day brought game changing updates to five titles. Years after their release, these games continue to be supported by developers, entertaining fans and expanding their universes.

The video game industry has gone through some interesting changes over the past few years. “Games as a service” has dominated the industry and the community is torn over how they feel about the business model. However, one undeniable benefit of this model is that the games people love continue to evolve and that seems to have gamers excited.

Bethesda Handling Fallout Development Internally For Foreseeable Future

Back in 2010, Fallout: New Vegas was developed by a company named Obsidian Entertainment. It was not Bethesda Game Studios, the company responsible for creating the open world 3D adventure structure the series uses today. For the most part, fans of Fallout 3 were happy with the direction the outside game developer took and it received praise from critics for the detailed open world and wacky quests players could take part in.

Obsidian made it perfectly clear that they are ready and willing to develop a new Fallout game, but Bethesda’s Boss, Todd Howard may have just squashed their dreams. In a recent interview, Howard said that Bethesda would rather handle big games internally from now on.

Bethesda Says Less Mojave More Capital

He explained to The Guardian that as of now they’re not ready to say for sure that a Fallout game from a third party won’t happen again, but fans should keep their expectations low. “I wouldn’t say never,” Howard said. “[But] now that our company is so big, it’s always better to keep stuff internal … it becomes less likely, but I could never say never. I thought the Obsidian guys did a fabulous job.”

On top of Bethesda’s main office in Maryland, they recently opened up a new studio in Montreal back in 2015. Earlier this year, Bethesda rebranded BattleCry Studios as Bethesda Game Studios Austin, which is based in Austin, Texas.

Bethesda Certainly Knows How To Design Monsters

Of course, Howard made these remarks due to Bethesda having a much larger development staff than they did back when Fallout: New Vegas was outsourced to Obsidian. Given how large the Fallout brand has grown since the third entry made its way to gamers, it makes sense that Bethesda would rather keep new entries in-house, as it gives the company much more control over the end product.

Later on this year, Bethesda Game Studios will be launching the next game in the series, Fallout 76, the first multiplayer based entry to the long-running franchise. Following that, the studio will release their new sci-fi game Starfield, and maybe in the next few years, Elder Scrolls VI.
