PS4 Owners Beware the New Message Hack

Multiple PS4 owners have confirmed that a text-message exploit is being used to brick players consoles, which requires a factory reset to get the system working again.

Although a copious amount of users have claimed that they were hit by the attack, Sony has not confirmed the reports or given any comment on the subject. To make sure PS4 owners keep their consoles safe, many are suggesting that players switch their messaging settings to “Friends Only” or the more drastic option of not being able to receive messages at all.

PS4 – Protect Your Console

Currently, there is no known way to stop the attack once it has been initiated. Reports can be found all over the PS4 subreddit and many include the same information. The message-based attack seems to be similar to those seen on other mobile platforms where a message containing a string of characters has the ability to shut down the platform.

To ensure players keep their consoles safe, messages can be managed from a web browser or the PlayStation smart-phone app. These methods seem to be the best way to prevent opening up the message and ruining an expensive console with the exploit.

If you’re worried about your console and don’t have access to a web browser or the smart-phone app, you can change the messaging settings right from the console. First, go to the Settings tab, then Account Management, and finally click on Privacy Settings to find the option.

In one thread a user explains his team receiving the message while playing the popular shooter Rainbow Six Siege. Everyone on the teams consoles were almost immediately bricked and apparently the accounts that sent the message have yet to be banned by either Sony or Ubisoft.

We here at Gigamax Games are always playing our PS4’s so we will be sure to keep a close eye on this this situation. Be sure to keep checking back with GigamaxGames.com for all the latest details.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider Playlist Page

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the last part of the Tomb Raider trilogy. The story follows Lara Croft’s life from the beginning of her Tomb Raiding ways. Now, with Lara Croft grown and battle-hardened, the violence gets turned up and the epic story can evolve. Come find the latest gameplay right here in the Shadow of the Tomb Raider Playlist.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider [PlayStation 4] with Gigamax Games

Even though the game looks gorgeous and is exhilarating at parts, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is lacking on that “wow” factor. The game feels a little worn out and a little too similar to the first two. The puzzles are fun but the action has a tendency to die down, leaving the gamer facing a string of slow-paced sections of the story. In a Tomb Raider where Lara Croft is supposed to be at her most fierce, the game includes a little too much hand holding.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider might have some drawbacks but one aspect of the game that can’t be faulted is its graphics. From the very beginning, it becomes clear that this game is going to be a knockout. Its rich jungle environment allows for plenty of incredible encounters and offers stunning natural formations to admire. Each cutscene is memorable, crafted beautifully to leave a powerful impression. Still, with all these visual achievements, the game itself hasn’t impressed the Gigamax Games crew like the first two.

Festival of the Lost Brings Tons of New Content to Destiny 2

October is here and Halloween is right around the corner. Bungie is celebrating with their annual Festival of the Lost event. The company teased this year’s festivities last week and has recently pulled back the curtain on what new activities and gear fans will be able to take part in and earn while the Halloween themed event is taking place.

Festival of the Lost Details

The biggest addition to Destiny 2 is that the Festival of the Lost brings a new PVE zone named “The Haunted Forest” which can either be tackled solo or with a fire team. Players will be able to take on what Bungie calls “Ghouls and Demons, who are spooking up a storm.” When Guardians jump into the area they will have 15 minutes to make it as far as they can with the difficulty ramping up the further they get.

On the tail end of Festival of the Lost players, will be able to complete a quest that has Guardians investigating the murder of the old Vestian Outpost Cryptarch, Master Ives. This new mission will net fans a Powerful piece of gear, but this quest won’t be available until the weekly reset on the October 30th.

This year’s festivities have been put in the hands of the very capable Amanda Holiday, the Tower’s shipwright. She’s taken her time to decorate the Tower with a ton of Halloween themed flair and most importantly, she’ll hand out bounties which Guardians can complete to earn a new item called, Fragmented Souls. Players will be able to turn in these items for a variety of Festival of the Lost masks and a new Auto Rifle named, Horror Story. There will also be a number of new Triumphs to complete which are all related to the new activities.

Much like the Solstice of Heroes event that took place back in August, players will still be able to earn Steadfast Engrams by filling up their XP Bars, but during the event, they’ll also earn Ephemeral Engrams which give out themed rewards. These new items include sparrows, ships, ghost shells, and emotes. Ephemeral Engrams will also be sold by Tess but require Destiny 2’s paid currency, Silver. Holiday will also have a collection of goodies that players can purchase with Bright Dust.

Guardians will be able to start their haunted adventure when Festival of the Lost kicks off on Tuesday, October 16th. The event will run until November 6th and even those without the Forsaken DLC will be able to participate in the celebration!

Borderlands 2 VR: Pandora Is Back in a Big Way!

Coming December 14th, 2018, PlayStation VR owners can pick up a copy of Borderlands 2 VR. 2K and Gearbox Software announced that Borderlands 2 VR will bring the beloved game to the revolutionary virtual reality platform for the very first time. The critically-acclaimed shooter-looter on PlayStation VR will bring this lively world even closer to gamers hearts.

Borderlands 2 VR Makes an Old Game Feel Fresh

The news broke yesterday, 10/9/18, that Borderlands 2 would be getting yet another release. Except, this time it is going to be just a bit more exciting. Borderlands 2 gave gamers endless hours of enjoyment and bringing it into VR has the potential to refresh Pandora and make this 6-year-old game feel exciting all over again.

Well, this is exciting!

Experience the Borderlands universe like never before. Players can open life-size chests filled with treasure, guns, and have the chance to inspect the world from every angle. The real-world aiming system will completely immerse anyone wearing that PlayStation VR headset in Borderlands 2. There’s no telling how intense the action will get when the world on the screen comes to life all around you.

New Perspective and Features

Borderlands 2 VR includes additional features not found in the original. One that has the potential to transform how players experience Borderlands 2 VR, besides the game actually being in VR, is the new “Bad Ass Mega Fun Time” (BAMF Time) ability. Gamers will be able to slow down time in order to give them the opportunity to set up their next attack. Players will also have access to a Teleport option, allowing them to transport themselves across Pandora with ease. However, even with the Teleport option being included, it doesn’t seem as though the world is going to be any less extraordinary to explore on foot or in a vehicle.

Claptrap… in VR!

2K and Gearbox Software enhanced the Borderlands 2 VR experience as well, adding a first-person perspective when driving vehicles. Players will be able to navigate the landscape, accelerate and steer with the joystick and use their headset to aim the vehicles weapons. Furthermore, if players use motion controllers, they can interact with the menu systems in an entirely new way. Point, click, drag and drop, seamlessly flow through the menu system to save time so more can be spent playing Borderlands 2 VR.

Virtual Reality Gaming – The Future?

There are high hopes for the future of Virtual Reality in gaming and the technology is still only in its infancy when it comes to consumer headsets like the PlayStation VR. However, the headset is still capable of delivering a thrilling experience. Borderlands 2 is a massively popular title and bringing it to the PlayStation VR seems like it’s going to be a perfect match.

Stop by GigamaxGames.com in December to find Borderlands 2 VR gameplay. Find out how it performs on Sony’s consumer VR headset. Let’s hope it lives up to expectations or at least comes close.

Walking Dead: The Final Season Set To Be Completed

Skybound Entertainment, the studio owned and operated by The Walking Dead’s creator, Robert Kirkman, officially announced that they reached a deal with Telltale to complete the game Walking Dead: The Final Season.

“We’ve successfully negotiated with Telltale Games for our company Skybound to come in and see Season 4 of the Telltale game to completion,” said Kirkman during a panel at Comic-Con over the weekend. “We can’t lose Andrew Lincoln and Clementine in the same year.”

Walking Dead: The Final Season, telltale, walking dead telltale, telltale employees, telltale walking dead final season

Telltale and Skybound Entertainment have always worked together on the Telltale Walking Dead series, but after the studio announced it was closing its doors in September, many fans were concerned about Walking Dead: The Final Season’s fate.

Skybound also confirmed that it was working with a number of former Telltale employees that were originally making Walking Dead: The Final Season, but with over 200 employees laid off, this is a bittersweet announcement. According to reports, none of those fired were given severance and were never told that the company was going to be shut down prior to the day it closed.

While this is certainly an exciting announcement, there are plenty of details that need to be clarified about Skybound’s partnership with Telltale. “We’re currently ironing out some of the details as this is a pretty major deal, so we’ll have more info on the who/what/where/when/how very soon as those details are finalized,” the studio said. (https://bit.ly/2NtaHHX)

“We appreciate your patience during this process. Thank you to the fans for being so supportive of this series and vocal about wanting to see Clementine’s story continue! We’re going to do right by you (and also for ourselves, because WE want to play it too!).” (https://bit.ly/2NtaHHX)

Unfortunately, Walking Dead: The Final Season was far from the only game Telltale was working on and it is hard to forget the poor choices that were made by the studio. Hopefully, some of the profits from the project will be used to properly compensate employees that were left blindsided by this terrible event. We here at Gigamax will continue to follow this story and report any new developments so be sure to keep checking back at GigamaxGames.com.

Reports Suggest New Switch Hardware On The Way

According to a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, a new version of the extremely popular Nintendo Switch is making its way to gamers next year. This report is backed by suppliers and others in the industry with direct knowledge of the company’s plan for the console.

Big Moves for the Switch!

Along with the news came a few details on what fans can expect from the new Nintendo Switch hardware: “The current Switch uses a lower-end liquid-crystal display without some technologies that are standard in more recent smartphone LCDs,” said the report. “Updating the display with these technologies would make it brighter, thinner and more energy-efficient. The updated Switch isn’t expected to adopt the organic light-emitting diode or OLED panels used in Apple Inc.’s iPhone X series.”

Nintendo has already managed to sell 20 million units around the world since the console launched back in 2017 and this move is probably intended to keep sales numbers up as the system grows in age. Fans can expect the new iteration of the hardware in the second half of 2019, most likely around the holiday season to really capitalize on the biggest sales months of the year. This news isn’t terribly surprising considering that Nintendo not only wants a console in every home, but it wants every member of a home to own a version of the hardware.

Nintendo Entertainment System Update Gameplay

“The biggest attraction of Nintendo Switch is that the console can be carried around and used easily for competitive gameplay via local wireless connection,” said Shigeru Miyamoto during a financial briefing earlier in the year. “If consumers come to take it for granted that everybody has a Nintendo Switch, then we can create new and very Nintendo genres of play, and Nintendo Switch can have a life apart from smart devices and other video game systems. Expanding the Nintendo Switch world this way is a means of eliminating risk.” (https://bit.ly/2EXODCX)

We would love to see a new version of this amazing portable console and will certainly try to have whatever Nintendo releases on day one, so be sure to keep checking back here at GigamaxGames.com for all the latest detail on the company’s future plans!

Destiny 2’s Masterwork Cores Getting Reworked

Bungie finally confirmed that they are solving issues many fans are having with Destiny 2. Just before the Forsaken Expansion, a patch was implemented that increased the importance of the “Masterwork Cores” resource. The company acknowledged that the system is currently flawed and reassured fans that a fix was on the way.

Masterwork Core Rework on the Horizon

Before the patch was made live, Masterwork Cores were solely used for upgrading a weapon into their Masterwork version. These weapons have increased stats and add a variety of perks to the gun, but obtaining the resource necessary to make this transformation isn’t a simple task.

Now that Forsaken is out, Masterwork Cores are an essential ingredient for Destiny 2’s Infusion system, which allows players to boost their Light Level by deconstructing weapons. This was initially intended to make the choice of Infusion more difficult so Guardians would have to utilize a wider variety of weapons. Now that this resource is needed in two separate but important systems, fans believe the drop rate is too low.

This was one of the talking points for Bungie’s most recent blog post which acknowledged the player feedback and promised to fix it. The post detailed the two main problems: “Masterwork Cores have a misleading name. When they were created, the definition of a pinnacle item put the emphasis almost entirely on Masterworking. We expanded that definition in Forsaken, but didn’t update the currency. [Also], there are not enough reliable sources to earn Masterwork Cores, which can make deciding what to spend them on too difficult.” (https://bit.ly/2Ioi8PR)

Masterwork Cores, destiny 2, destiny 2 update, destiny 2 updates, new games, latest games, video game news, nj gaming, gaming news, gigamax games news

Destiny 2 currently only offers a few ways to obtain Masterwork Cores: breaking down Legendary gear, purchasing them from the vendor on the Tangled Shore, or using a Consumable that causes bosses to drop them. On top of the update to cores, Bungie is modifying Exotic drop rates so that players are less likely to earn weapons or armor they’ve already received.

This certainly wouldn’t be the first time Bungie changed a system that fans had complaints about. It’s reassuring to see their open-mindedness when it comes to taking advice from fan feedback. Make sure you keep track of all Destiny 2’s changes by checking back here with us here at GigamaxGames.com.

Valve Opens In House Steam Comment Moderation

Valve announced their plan to officially start moderating comments on individual game discussions on their popular gaming platform, Steam. Before today’s development, Valve was only moderating Steam’s screenshots, artwork, guides, user profiles, community groups, and user reviews.

Live look at Valve taking down toxic comments

Valve Sick of Toxic Comments

The company made the statement via a Steam blog post which read: “In the past, we’ve been hesitant to get involved in the moderation of individual game discussions, as we didn’t want to step on the toes of game developers that want to have their own style of communication with players and their own set of guidelines for behavior. But over time, we’ve been hearing from more and more game developers that would actually prefer for us to take a more active role in discussion boards, at least to the extent of handling posts that are reported by other players.”

This does not mean Valve will be actively scanning forums and various comment threads for comments that break their terms of service and community guidelines. The company will rely on reports from users on the platform in order to ensure all of their rules are being followed. This is to make sure developers that joke around with their community and are rude on purpose don’t get taken down by an automated system. Valve will only target comments that have been reported.

Actual picture of a Steam troll

All of this news follows a year of numerous changes to Steam’s policies on censorship, which have been met with backlash by users. Earlier in the year, Valve announced that everything and anything could go up on Steam as long as it wasn’t illegal or a blatant attempt to troll potential buyers. It will be interesting to see how long this new system performs considering the company’s nature of going back and forth on decisions, but Gigamax Games will be sure to keep every gamer updated on the latest changes and Steam updates!
