Grand Theft Auto 5 released four years and ten months ago but that doesn’t mean this giant money train slowed down. It was recently revealed that GTA 5 is still a big earner for both Rockstar Games and their parent company Take Two Interactive.
Take Two announced today that GTA 5 has now shipped nearly 100 million units. This number is up from the 95 million figure that they announced back in May. According to Take Two, the game has outperformed their expectations for the quarter. To give a little context to the game’s insane success so far from its launch, GTA 5 was the number 3 selling game in the United States during June. It managed to outsell a number of new big name releases like The Crew 2.
GTA 5 Blowing Away Expectations
Not only did the base game do exceptionally well, but GTA Online had also managed to exceed Take Two’s expectations. “Grand Theft Auto Online continued to exceed our expectations in the first quarter, as it has in every period since its release,” Take-Two explained. (https://bit.ly/2LKazYG)
The main reason the online portion of GTA 5 is doing well and continues to be so successful is because Rockstar consistently releases new and interesting content. The most recent substantial update was GTA Online: After Hours which Take Two said: “had a bigger week-one audience than last December’s Doomsday Heist, which went on to be a record-breaking update.” (https://bit.ly/2LKazYG)
Looking toward the future, the company says it has more innovative content planned for GTA Online in upcoming weeks and months. A big part of this online mode is the game’s plethora of microtransactions which have been performing extremely well. During an earnings call, The CEO of Take Two, Strauss Zelnick, said: “recurrent consumer spending” (microtransactions) performed better-than-expected this quarter.
GTA V continues to thrive and it doesn’t seem like there is an end in sight. The Gigamax Games crew is excited to continue following this incredible franchise and for the latest news, be sure to stop by GigamaxGames.com.
To celebrate the holiday season, Rockstar just released a substantial GTA 5 winter update. In the latest patch for Grand Theft Auto’s insanely popular online experience, San Andreas got something relatively uncommon for California, a blanket of snow. Currently, there are free liveries and on Christmas day fans will be able to receive a free car.
Officially known as GTA V’s Festive Surprise Event, the blanket of snow it left behind is for more than just show. Players can put down the guns, pick up snowballs, and chuck them at each other. To throw the snowy winter staple click left on the d-pad on a console, or G on the PC.
Free Rides For All!
The free car Rockstar is handing out is an Albany Hermes Muscle Car which players can claim by logging on Christmas day. The car also comes with 5 free liveries for the thruster. Rockstar is also giving away a free Krampus mask because let’s face it, evil Santa doesn’t get enough credit. If you’re feeling extra festive, holiday-themed clothes are also for sale through in-game shops.
Players can also make their way down to Southern San Andreas Super Autos to purchase another brand new vehicle that was just added to the game. Called the Benefactor Streiter, this SUV is a powerhouse that combines a sleek sporty look with awesome off-road capabilities.
Rockstar previously announced that GTA’s current premium stunt race is the H200, the current time trial is Sawmill which runs through Christmas day. On December 26th, Double Loop will become the stunt race and Cypress Flats will be the time trial. Every player that participates in the winter event races will receive triple RP and on top of that, the leading three racers will get a huge in-game money award. The time trial will also grant a bonus RP and GTA$ award for those that beat the set time. Let us know how you’re enjoying the GTA 5 winter update in the comments below!
After many years of fans digging through code and searching every single inch of Grand Theft Auto 5, one group has finally found the elusive green extraterrestrials. Staying true to the nature of the series, this discovery involves some malicious deeds.

Last month saw the release of the latest Grand Theft Auto 5 multiplayer update, Gunrunning. Along with the patch came a few new weapons, a couple vehicles, and giant underground bunkers. But a dedicated group of data miners wasn’t satisfied, they needed to look deeper. That’s where a file was discovered that hinted of an alien UFO crashing just outside of the military base, Zancudo. This discovery drove players to finally figure out the long standing mystery of the alien egg.
GTA 5 Modding and mystery hunting group, Team Guru, spent weeks figuring out how to activate the various pieces of Alien code they found in the game. After many long hours of coding the team was able to use a tool created by the Guru member Polivilas to switch in game variables until they forcibly opened an alien supply mission with brute force.
You can see a quick video of the mission below:
As you can see, the mission isn’t the most exciting in the world. It involves players heading to a predesignated zone to gather supplies, and that’s where the mysterious alien egg comes in. When the group arrives, they find a crashed UFO surrounded by the bodies of dead soldiers and scientists. Players are then tasked with stealing the alien egg from the crash site and escort it to a safe zone. Aliens will spawn after the egg is grabbed and the crew will need to gun down their assailants. A fairly standard mission, but the sense that a long journey is finally over satisfies more than anything else.
Many are happy with this information but some can’t help but feel a little cheated. While it doesn’t really justify years of searching, most fans are hopeful that this is just the beginning of aliens in GTA 5. Could we see a big space update in the future? MAYBE! Gigamax will be sure to have the coverage so make sure to keep checking back.
