Nintendo’s new take on the fighting game genre may see another new character added to the roster soon. In the latest update trailer posted by the video game publisher (see below), fans can catch a glimpse of what appears to be a robot version of the game’s hero, Spring Man.
New Badge System
Also coming with the update is a new “badge” system that will award players for completing specific challenges. For example, one will be awarded for completing a tough run through the campaign or playing a certain amount of fights with one character. Nintendo was not clear about a release date but the trailer made it clear it will be coming later this month. This article will be updated when the launch date is announced, so don’t forget to check back!
Nintendo certainly hasn’t been shy when it comes to releasing free updates for their popular new brawler. The last update saw a new clown type character, Lola Pop, enter the ring along with Max Brawler in the update before her. New stages have also been added throughout the game’s lifecycle, including Sparring Ring and Villa Dolce and shows that the company has no plans to slow down support for the game. Training exercises were also added so that fans could practice their skills and moves for online play, so if you put down ARMS, now is a great time to throw the gloves back on.
This announcement comes in the wake of Nintendo’s plan to increase production of the Switch to 2 million units per month to meet the console’s high demand. The Switch is one of the most unique console’s we’ve ever played here at Gigamax so if you’re able to get your hands on one, don’t miss out! We’ll be keeping our eyes on all the latest information so be sure to keep checking back for all the latest in gaming news.
Capcom officially revealed Menat, a brand new DLC fighter for Street Fighter 5. A trailer for the new character was unveiled during the Hong Kong Esports festival which is currently the home for the Capcom Pro Tour. Players will have the chance to get their hands on the fighter on August 29th.
Menat is a female Egyptian character that primarily uses orbs as her weapon of choice. Fans of the series are comparing her to Rose from the Street Fighter Alpha/Zero games. Much like Rose, Menat has the ability to reflect projectiles and can summon her orbs to form a barrier around her using the V-Trigger special.
Menat’s Orbs Are Deadly
While Menat seems like a fairly complex character meant for advanced players, she looks deadly in the hands of veteran fighters. While using the character, players can position orbs around the field to control areas and launch them at opponents as well as call them back. The orbs make extending lengthy combos and juggling a breeze and seems like the perfect way to set up brutal attacks and manage distance.
Menat also has a few other tricks up her sleeve. For one, she can use a powerful divekick to close distance and has a few grab moves at her disposal. She also has access to a teleport in the form of a V-Reversal which means trapping her in a corner will not be an easy task. Capcom has also detailed the various costumes that will be available for the character when she launches.
Menat will cost players $6 or can be gained from the $30 expansion pass for season 2 which also includes Akuma, Kolin, Ed, and Abigail. Capcom also revealed new costumes for a variety of the characters in the game to coincide with Menat’s release. Each of the new costumes will cost players $4 and will celebrate the game’s 30th anniversary.
A new face is about to join the Street Fighter 5 cast of characters and long time fans of the series will certainly be happy with the new addition. Revealed through a brief trailer over the weekend, the popular fighter Abigail from the Final Fight series will be bashing his way into the series. This news should come as no surprise to Street Fighter fans as this is not the first time Capcom borrowed a character from their other popular fighting game collection.
Abigail The Power House
Players of the original Final Fight will remember Abigail as a power house that could take hits and dish out the damage at the cost of speed. This character was part of the Mad Gear Gang in the lore of Final Fight and fans of the game didn’t encounter him until the end of the game. Previously, Capcom had introduced another of the Mad Gear powerhouses, Hugo, into Street Fighter 3: Second Impact. At the time, Hugo was quite literally the largest addition to the Street Fighter series but based on Abigails’ size it seems there’s a new contender for the biggest overall character.
More To Come
Abigail also comes with a collection of costumes that are all very unique. The first features the bruiser in a tank top with some very trendy tires as sweatbands. His battle costume changes his hair to red dreadlocks and replaces his tires with chains. Lastly, his story costume has him wearing a welding mask and an even bigger tire.
This will mark the fourth of six DLC characters that are set for release in Street Fighter 5’s season two collection. Akuma, Kolin, and Ed were all previously released and all came with 3 separate costumes as well. Abigail is set to release on July 25th with his brand new stage Metro City Bar Area. Gigamax Games will be keeping a close eye on Street Fighter 5’s season two so be sure to keep checking back for more details!
Blizzard has officially confirmed the newest character coming to their immensely popular multiplayer shooter, Overwatch. Orisa is a guardian tank developed by robotics expert, Efi Oladele, whom was recently teased by the developer in a blog post. It seems as though Blizzard is trying to expand on the lore of the game in a big way as Orisa has plenty of back story.
According to a host of detailed blog posts and leaks over the past couple weeks, Blizzard has painted a vivid picture of Efi and her robot buddy. Efi, being the good natured soul that she is, had recently won a grant for furthering her skills to help keep humanity safe. She decided that the best way to accomplish this was building a giant robot centaur that has plenty of weaponry. Orisa is an upgraded OR15 robot that was recently decommissioned because of… Technical difficulties. (See Picture Below)
Orisa’s Personality Core
Efi gave Orisa a personality core and a bunch of new armaments for players to experiment with. As a hero in the game, Orisa has a two star difficulty rating and supposedly has the best range of any tank character. Her main weapon is a “Fusion Driver,” which is a mini gun like arm that can deliver sustained damage but significantly lowers speed while being fired. Next up is the “Fortify” ability which lets Orisa take more damage and power through action-impairing effects. She also has a graviton charge launcher named “Halt!” that not only slows enemies, but pulls them toward the explosion as well. Her last main ability is “Protective barrier” that offers a deployable barrier for allies to hide behind. Finally Orisa’s ultimate is a “Supercharger” that powers up friendly attack damage in a wide area, the device can be destroyed so it’s suggested that a barrier be deployed over it.
Orisa is currently live on the PTR for players to test out and give opinions on. If you have the ability to try her out we recommend giving it a shot. Blizzard appreciates the feedback and test data that ultimately helps balance the game. Right now there is no word on when Orisa is going to be patched into the game, but hopefully players won’t have to wait long. Keep checking back with Gigamax for more details on this very unique character, we will have gameplay videos of Orisa the minute she is available for us to play.
Right on the heels of their Sombra release, Blizzard is already teasing a new character. In a recent forum thread game director, Jeff Kaplan confirmed that his team has “multiple characters in the works” following that up with “24 is not who you think it is.” (http://bit.ly/2mo1dke). This seemingly confirms that the next character will not be the heavily theorized Doomfist.
Players began speculating that Doomfist may be the next hero weeks ago when Terry Crews, a huge Overwatch fan/famous actor, was spotted at the Blizzard offices. This began a long running social media campaign by fans to secure Crew’s a spot to voice Doomfist. While Blizzard never gave official word on whether or not he would play the character, they’ve just put up a blog post which adds a new face to the lore.
Meet Efi Oladele, an 11 year old AI and Robotics expert from Numbani. She was the focal point of Blizzard’s post and it is now theorized that she will be the next character to join the brawl. While it is unlikely that an 11 year old will be fighting directly on the battlefield, most think that she will send one of her robots to do the work for her. Further cementing this idea lead writer, Michael Chu also confirmed that the blog post takes place in current day Overwatch time, so we won’t see an adult Efi on the field.
Blizzard Doing It Right
We hear at Gigamax are big fans of Overwatch and love that Blizzard is actively engaging the community. It’s one thing to have constant updates, but another thing entirely to keep fans in the loop through the whole development process. Games that rely on fan feedback truly stand out and this could not be more true for Overwatch, especially with its recent win of another GOTY at the DICE Awards.
While Blizzard still hasn’t announced who the character will be, you know that we’ll be on the lookout. Make sure to keep checking back with Gigamax for all the latest in gaming news and industry updates.
