Celebrating 40 years of Space Invaders with Gigamax

Disclaimer: Gigamax Games has no relationship with Taito’s Space Invaders.

Taito’s Space Invaders, the classic arcade game just celebrated its 40th birthday. Releasing in 1978, it influenced countless games and the gaming industry in general since its inception. This was the first game that created its very own world rather than simulating an environment from the real world. It also introduced the concept of a high score and multiple lives.

Celebrating 40 Years of Space Invaders

Space Invaders quickly became the most popular game in arcades worldwide after its global release. 40 years later, it’s hard to find a gamer that hasn’t played or at least heard of the game. A staple of arcade gaming, any fan of this classic title might want to take a trip to Japan to celebrate.

The publisher is celebrating this momentous occasion in an over the top way. Hosting a limited time event in Japan, Taito created a massive version of the game where up to ten players can work together to fend off the alien threat. Named, Prepare…for Space Invaders Gigamax!, this celebration caught the attention of Gigamax Games for a couple of reasons.

Bigger, Brighter, Gigamax

Huge fans of the game, the Gigamax Games crew was shocked to hear this limited time event was actually named, “Prepare… for Space Invaders Gigamax”. If anyone forgot, the name of this website is GigamaxGames.com.

The event is a limited edition attraction, located southwest of Tokyo at the Laguna Ten Bosch resort in Gamagori, Japan. Each game costs players around $4.50 USD or 500 yen. The massive display will only be available to try through July so if anyone wants to give it a try, the time to book a trip to Japan is now. It is uncertain what the future holds for Space Invaders Gigamax but with any luck, this celebration won’t be the last time gamers see Gigamax on the big screen.

For more information on this special event, an official website is available in Japanese. Google Translate will help but doesn’t translate the pictures.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Unfortunate Story of Fan Service

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Unfortunate Story of Fan Service

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has delivered dozens of hours of excitement so far and there’s still a ton to go. Even with some of the sub-par reviews this game received because of the fan service, it’s still a quality experience. It shouldn’t turn people away if they’re looking for a great, classic feeling JRPG.  Both Gigs and Mack are engrossed in the story and gameplay, glued to the Nintendo Switch with no chance of slowing up soon.

The Nintendo Switch has been killing it with games this year. Developers, publishers, and gamers alike are surprised about its success. Even with the reviewers taking off points, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is still a grand experience any JRPG fan can enjoy.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – The Unfortunate Story of Fan Service

Walking through this gigantic game, the Gigamax crew is blown away by the story. Pulling every trope from the book of anime tropes, they somehow feel right at home. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 embraced many more anime elements when compared to the previous series. This kind of art style and narrative direction are right up Gigs and Macks alley.

Again, this game holds true to many of the JRPG elements that make the genre so great but oftentimes also keeps people at bay. There is very little hold handing and it’s relatively text-heavy. If these kind of games are for you, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 might be worth considering.

EA Acquires Respawn Entertainment and Titanfall

EA Acquires Respawn Entertainment and Titanfall

Despite working with EA for most of Titanfall’s lifetime, Respawn Entertainment wasn’t actually owned by the gaming giant. As of today, EA announced that it has purchased the California based developer and their mech-based FPS.

EA has been the publisher for all of Respawn’s games so far, which includes last year’s hit Titanfall 2. Also announced today was that the studio is working on a new Titanfall game, a third person Star Wars title, and a VR game that has not been detailed. Not much has been said about the next new Titanfall but Respawn previously expressed interest in continuing the series. Currently, the only details known about the Star Wars title are that it is being directed by Stig Asmussen, who was previously the director of God of War III. This is good news since EA recently shut down Visceral Games, the studio behind Dead Space that was also working on a Star Wars title.

The Offical Word

EA CEO, Andrew Wilson, said in a press release “We’ve seen firsthand the world-class caliber of Respawn as a development studio with incredible vision, deep talent, and an inspiring creative mindset,” He continued “Our longtime partnership is grounded in a shared desire to push the boundaries and deliver extraordinary and innovative new experiences for players around the world. Together, we’ve brought this to life in the Titanfall franchise, and now with the Respawn team joining EA, we have exciting plans to accomplish even more amazing things in the future.” (http://bit.ly/2hoC104)

Why Did Respawn Sell?

In an open letter on Respawn’s website the CEO, Vince Zampella, detailed the decision to sell the company, which specifically notes that he will remain acting CEO. “While it wasn’t necessary, going with EA made a lot of sense,” he said. “With Titanfall and Star Wars, EA has been a great development partner that supports us and doesn’t interfere with our process for making games or studio culture. EA will provide us with more resources, access to new technologies, and expertise that we can tap into that will help us make better games, and Respawn will retain the same creative freedom and culture we’ve always had. We’ve been talking closely with the leadership at EA and we share their values and vision for the future of being a developer-focused company that puts the players first.” (http://bit.ly/2zK2uNt)

EA was an integral force in getting Respawn Entertainment off the ground after its founders, Zampella and Jason West, were fired from the Call of Duty developer, Infinity Ward. The deal cost EA $151 million dollars in cash and up to $164 million in equity. Performance indicators could also raise the cash figure by another $140 million.

While many may worry that EA will ruin the Titanfall series, it must be remembered that EA was acting publisher for the series already, meaning they made a ton of major decisions for the previous games already. This move makes sure the studio has the resources necessary to continue making great games for fans of their beloved series. It will be exciting to see what the talent at Respawn will make with the vast resources EA has to offer.

Waypoint Gaming: A New Kind Of Gaming Community

Waypoint Gaming: A New Kind Of Gaming Community

There’s a new kind of gaming community in a special part of Long Island, New York that has the potential to take the world by storm. Waypoint Gaming, located at 1100 Stewart Avenue Garden City, New York, is an unassuming concept with the spectacular mission of bringing gamers together and offering them a place to test their skills with friends and competitors alike. Begining with an idea in the Fall of 2015, Cris, Co-Owner and Founder of Waypoint Gaming had a dream to build a community centered around competitive gaming.

Gaming Community, video games, cyber cafe, competitive gaming, esports

The Story

Cris began putting together tournaments at his college and those small events began to pick up steam and continued to take off. Gamers from all around campus were ecstatic to finally have a place, other than a dorm room, to practice their skills and compete. Even other colleges in the area started getting involved and students from all around the area were showing up to take part in these small-scale tournaments.

Find Waypoint Gaming on Facebook!

With so much excitement surrounding these safe, responsible events one would expect the educational institution to be behind it 100%.  However, this was not the case. Instead, it was the opposite. They came down hard on Cris and his friends. The school banned the events and put an end to the eSports community that was beginning to be cultivated. But this was not the end of Cris’ dream.

A Venue Like No Other

Gaming Community, video games, cyber cafe, competitive gaming, esports

Fast forward two years and Waypoint Gaming is in the process of opening their doors to the public. Instead of giving up hope, Waypoint Gaming was born. Cris assembled a team of incredibly capable and hardworking individuals to bring the dream of creating a venue for local gamers where they can compete and test their skills to fruition. Waypoint Gaming wants to be a place that holds weekly tournaments, creating an eSports community for the Long Island area.

For a $10 fee, gamers can enter for a chance to win a cash prize or gift card. Even better, gamers have an option to pay $10 a month for free entry to all tournaments they host. Their incredible space has 27 PC’s, Monitors, PS4’s, Xbox One’s, WiiU’s, Wii’s, and eight 4k T.V.s. They even have a space dedicated to Virtual Reality gaming.

The Waypoint Gaming team has big plans for the future. Their ultimate goal is to open up a chain of locations all up and down the east coast. Local gamers are in constant search for an eSports community, to surround themselves with like-minded individuals that share a similar dream. This organization wants to create a space for these gamers and it all began with a dream in the Fall of 2015.

The Next Step

Waypoint Gaming is in the final stages of opening their doors. They expect to open to the world late December or early January depending on the towns permission. It’s amazing to see the similarity between the college in which Cris started this concept and with the town they’re struggling with to gain permission to open their doors. This eSports concept is not going away. It’s only going to grow and organizations like Waypoint Gaming are leading the way.

Dead Matter: A True Zombie Survival Game

Dead Matter: A True Zombie Survival Game

Every fan of zombie fiction has at some point asked themselves “what would I do in a zombie apocalypse?” The indie developer, Quantum Integrity, is looking to help answer this question with their upcoming sandbox survival game Dead Matter. Originally developed as a mod for Crysis 2 back in 2013, the team behind the game put their heart and soul behind this project and it shows. With multiplayer, near endless customization, a humongous living world, and full mod support Dead Matter is quickly becoming the zombie survival experience everyone has been waiting for.

Kickstarter & A Dream

Quantum Integrity boasts on their Kickstarter page that Dead Matter is “true sandbox survival horror.” Players will get to fight through the zombie apocalypse however they see fit. That can include setting up a home base and defending it with their expansive crafting or barricading system all while cultivating the land or wandering the wasteland scavenging whatever tools, vehicles, weapons, and the food they can find. Set in the province of Alberta, Canada players will be able to experience the game alone or with friends as the developer intends to support both play styles equally.

Freedom of expression is an important design choice for Quantum Integrity. Customization features have been at the core of Dead Matter since the games original inception. It starts with the character design where hair, head, and body can all be changed to whatever the player desires. When actually playing the game, customization extends to nearly every facet of the experience including weapons, vehicles, and buildings. Want to wrap a baseball bat in barbed wire? Go right ahead.  Strapping C4 onto a programmable alarm clock? Perfectly fine! Turn the family van into a zombie survivalist’s dream ride? Strap some defenses and gun racks on that bad boy and call it a day.

Alberta, Canada: Zombie Paradise

In order to help nurture the ideas of their player base, the developer built a stunning recreation of Alberta that contains the lush wilderness of the Rockies and extends to the once bustling city of Calgary. Designed to simulate true survival any simple trip for supplies could turn into a battle against soldiers, raiders, or a family just doing what they have to in order to survive. The world was also fully designed in order to support the player’s settlements. Every building in the game is made to be barricaded, upgraded, and fitted with electricity and running water. All of the land can be farmed and the lakes can be fished. Live in the shadows of the city and survive in the wild or work together with the community to retake the city of Calgary by taking control of dams, transformers, and bridges.

Finally, to assert their connection with the fan base and support where the game got its start, Quantum Integrity comes packed with full mod support. All of the procedural generation tools are being put into the players’ hands as well as C++ and Blueprint access. Any user can host their own server complete with all of their own settings and mods completely free of charge. The team over at Quantum Integrity are modders at their core and it shows through their devotion to the modding community.

Dead Matter looks like an amazing survival experience that we just couldn’t wait to back on Kickstarter. If this game sounds appealing to you, don’t forget to show the team some support by throwing them some money or showing them love on social media. We can’t wait to get our hands on this gem so be sure to keep checking back for more information as the game continues through its development process!

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare – Playlist with Gigamax

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare – Playlist with Gigamax

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is definitely not for the weak. Interesting mechanics and precision style combat make it difficult to jump right into. Unless a player swings away wildly in every direction with no regard for the well being of teammates. You can decide which the Gigamax crew is made up of with the video below.

Take a look at the video below as Gigs and Mack take their first look into what the game has to offer. It may not be for everyone and it is a bit old, but it could be a good buy. Thank you all so much for stopping by! Hope you enjoy!

Fire Emblem Gaiden Remake Has Some Changes in Store

Fire Emblem : Ch-Ch-Ch-Changing

Nintendo recently shared some updates on the upcoming 3DS game Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. This new entry is a remake of the 1992 release Fire Emblem Gaiden.

Source: http://bit.ly/2mCEcx6

At this years PAX East, Nintendo gave a good look at the upcoming game ahead of its May 19th release date. The preview offered some insight into the upcoming remake and its major new features. New to the series is a world map structure that allows player to have more freedom in their mission selection.

One of the biggest new additions fans will find on the world map are dungeons. These introduce a new look for the game by abandoning the over the top camera and having the perspective switch to 3rd person. Much like a traditional RPG dungeon, these explorable areas offer destructible objects and treasure chests that contain items and gold. Enemies of course wander the dungeons and when engaged, the fight will occur much like a traditional Fire Emblem fight. Players can attack enemies before the fight to gain an upper hand, this also works for the enemy if they manage to hit the character before a fight. Dungeons behave like a side mission with access to your squad and abilities and the opportunity to fight multiple enemies.

Another big departure from the traditional Fire Emblem structure is the introduction of pre-set main characters. Instead of designing their own characters players, will switch between two protagonists, Cecilia and Alm. Both have an overarching objective of saving their country but their approach is very different. Because of these differences players will be able to swap between two whenever they want or forced swapped at specific points in the story. Echoes is also noteworthy for being the first game to have full voice acting for all the characters.

Poor Mages

Source: http://bit.ly/2mZzAC3

Some changes to the units themselves will also be making their way to the game. Archers can now counter attack from only one tile away, making them more viable for fans of an aggressive strategy. Opposite to the archer buff, mages are being nerfed in a serious way, now when casting spells this popular unit will have to expend a portion of their health bar.

Weapon durability will also not be included in Fire Emblem Echoes after being taken out of Fire Emblem Fates. The game is also sticking true to its source material by not including a support system or a weapon triangle, but the developer assures that there will still be a way to gain an advantage.

Destiny Update 2.5.0.2 Weapon Changes with Gigamax

Source: http://bit.ly/2lysAbE

Destiny Update 2.5.0.2

While Destiny isn’t exactly a Gigamax favorite (it’s complicated), we know that plenty of people around the world still love this shared world shooter. On Tuesday, Bungie is rolling out their latest update which makes some monumental changes to certain weapons. Thankfully the developers are keeping the community informed. During a live stream they detailed every change that was coming so players know exactly what to expect.

Source: http://bit.ly/2lyT39l

To start, Bungie went over exactly what they’re changing in the primary weapons throughout the game. Slow firing auto rifles like the Suros Regime are getting a damage buff making them more appealing in PVE situations. The critical hit multiplier for auto rifles is also being raised from 1.25 to 1.3 and Players will be happy to know that aiming this popular weapon while jumping will be way easier.

Scout Rifles are also being shown love with a boost to their accuracy and the ability to utilize the benefits of high caliber rounds. Pulse rifles have also been reworked by lowering the rate of fire for low impact rifles by 7.7%. High caliber rounds in the pulse rifle will also inflict less flinch on enemies. Specific rifles like the Grasp of Malok and the Clever Dragon are having their magazine size reduced by 6 rounds. Not all the changes to pulse rifles are bad though, high impact rifles will be receiving a fire rate buff by 5.3%. Finally much like the auto rifle, this weapon will be much easier to aim while in the air.

Source: http://bit.ly/2kQedzL

Receiving the biggest update are hand cannons, which have recently seen a lot less use. The first shot accuracy is being brought back up to year one values, although the base range is being reduced by 5 meters. As of now Hand Cannon damage has a 50% drop off at max range but after the update it will do 33% of the base damage past the intended range. Lastly, just like the scout rifles high caliber rounds will now affect the hand cannon.

The Nerf Hammer

Primary weapons aren’t the only thing seeing a change, one secondary weapon is also seeing some major updates. Shotguns have been hit with the nerf hammer pretty hard this time around with the most dramatic change being that critical damage is being removed completely. Aim assist while hip firing is also being cut and the mid air accuracy has been decreased. To make up for these changes shotguns will be receiving a 25% increase to damage in PVE zones and players agility will no longer be decreased while holding the weapon.

Destiny

Destiny’s upcoming update is highly anticipated by long term players, but doesn’t offer much to those that have stopped playing. Feelings for these weapon changes are sure to be mixed. What do you guys think of the update? Let us know in the comments below and remember to keep checking back with Gigamax for all the latest gaming news!

Final Fantasy XV Update Frenzy – New DLC and More! with GIGAMAX

Final Fantasy XV Update Frenzy

Source: http://bit.ly/2jDz7Vj

Final Fantasy XV Update:  The creators finally address the highly criticized 13th Chapter. However, this isn’t the only update the game will receiving. A slew of updates will begin releasing starting on Feb. 21. The director, Hajime Tabata offered up this information during their live-stream dedicated to Final Fantasy XV.

The first update will be primarily for the PlayStation 4 Pro. Available on Feb21st, this update comes along with the “booster pack” DLC. After this update, Final Fantasy XV will run at 60fps. Along with this performance update, players will now be able to listen to music while riding the chocobo. We here at gigamax don’t agree with installing radio’s on animals… But I digress. Additionally, the level cap will be raised to 120.

Next up will be the highly anticipated Chapter 13 update which releases on March 28th. This update also comes along side the “Episode Gladiolus” DLC. The Chapter 13 update will include various improvements to the notoriously slow last chapter. Facing an outcry from fans, Tobata ensured they will fix some of the issues they’ve heard about. However, few details were offered about what content will be included in the updated final hours. One exciting detail that was offered was that Gladiolus will be a playable character during this section of the game. The update is perfectly timed as the ‘Episode Gladiolus’ DLC allows players to use the character throughout its duration.

Don’t Rush

final fantasy xv update, final fantasy 15 update, gigamax games, gigamax, final fantasy car

Source: http://bit.ly/2jDoeTn

Initially, gamers thought the developers ended up rushing Chapter 13 but Tobata quickly dismissed those claims. “The direction of chapter 13’s content was a deliberate decision made by the development team,” he explained. “That said, the amount of stress inflicted on the player while running through this chapter was greater than we had anticipated. We believe resolving this issue will naturally lead to a better gameplay experience.” (http://bit.ly/2kApuGj)

This outlines all the content detailed in the Final Fantasy Live Stream. However, the new content still doesn’t end there. Tobata revealed an ‘Episode Prompto” DLC will release in June. One of our favorite characters, this should be an exciting and humorous addition to Final Fantasy XV.

Expected in the future, an update will allow Noctis to take the Regalia off-road. No other details are available and no release date was set. This is a feature that will truly offer an exciting experience for our second play through.

Ark Survival Evolved’s Next Huge Update Is Out Today

Ark Survival Evolved: Tek Tier

Dinosaur survival game, Ark Survival Evolved, is getting a humongous patch today. The big update called the Tek Tier Patch, is set to be the largest Ark has ever had.  Highlighting this patch is the addition of “Iron Man” like power suits, that give the player access to a host of different super powers. A few other minor changes are also coming with the patch but nothing as cool as the new technology being thrown into the mix.

Source: http://bit.ly/2kiVa3h

Each new piece of the shiny new armor set will give players the ability to utilize a ton of powerful features. The helmet gives Tek Vision, which makes it possible to see at night and identify players; creatures and enemies in the world. Tek boots and pants add the power of super speed and negate fall damage. Additionally the boots will let you walk up steep cliffs by simply walking toward them. The Tek Gauntlets give the power of super strength making the player hit way harder with them equipped. This makes harvesting without tools a much easier experience. The power suit also has an wearable jet pack that gives the ability to rocket toward the sky like Superman. Another piece of equipment is the Tek Rifle, which comes with a variety of mods and can be equipped while riding the various dinos. Finally giving players the option to be a mech suit wearing, dinosaur riding, future rifle wielding badass.

End Game Content Expanded

This new armor is being considered end game content, as the new material named “element” is being added to boss drop lists. Bosses are also being upgraded with added difficulties and will now drop items along with materials. This is all in hopes that players will go back to fight bosses after they’ve finished the initial encounter.

Source: http://bit.ly/2kiVa3h

The Tek Tier Patch also adds four new dinosaurs, a sheep that will give players the ability to sheer wool and a bunch of new weapons to play with. One of those new weapons is a lance that can be used for jousting competitions with friendly players. Also added is different hairstyles, which will grow as time progresses in game. When players cut their hair, a new resource will be added to their inventory obviously named “human hair.”

Source: http://bit.ly/2kiVa3h

This patch is being known as the final stretch to Ark Survival Evolved’s official release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game is currently in a beta state on all the platforms and its official release is set for this year.

This new patch is an exciting addition to this amazing game. It is also nice to hear that the game is nearing an official release as most privately funded games that launch on early access never make it this far. For more information on all the latest updates for Ark Survival Evolved keep check back with us here at Gigamax.
