Bethesda Explains How PVP Works In Fallout 76

Bethesda Explains How PVP Works In Fallout 76

During Bethesda’s E3 conference last week, the developer surprised fans with the gameplay reveal of their upcoming title Fallout 76. On top of the trailer, which showed off a game that looks very much like the Fallout fans have come to know and love, Bethesda also announced that it will be an always-online multiplayer game.  While players can still decide to play solo, the other characters fans will run into are human controlled.

Where There Are Gamers, There Are Griefers

Many have expressed concern after the conference about the new direction the studio is taking for Fallout 76. The key issue is how other players will interact with each other in the open world of West Virginia. What if a hostile player decides to make another character their target and begins griefing them? The gaming publication, Gamespot, recently sat down with Bethesda’s Senior Vice President, Pete Hines, to discuss how the company is going to preemptively handle potential trolling issues.

“When you see a person in the world, they’re a real person, and now you have to figure out [what role they play]…maybe they’re being super helpful, maybe they’re wandering the world as a trader and just trading with people, maybe they’re being a bad guy and they’re part of a raider group,” Hines explained. “[We allow] for that sort of tension but with systems in place that keep it from being abusive. So you can’t be harassed by somebody who just keeps chasing you around the world and keeps killing you over and over again; the game literally doesn’t allow that to happen to you.” (https://bit.ly/2t1r0ES)

Crawl out through the Fallout… With friends!

Death Isn’t All Doom and Gloom

He continued, “Death isn’t supposed to be a super negative thing. You don’t lose your progression, you don’t lose all your stuff, somebody can’t kill you and then take everything in your inventory [and then you have to] start over.” (https://bit.ly/2t1r0ES)

Hines also went on to discuss how the company is making sure PVP doesn’t become a toxic mess. “Think of PvP more like issuing a challenge to somebody as opposed to just, ‘no matter what I want to do to somebody, I can,'” he explained. “The game only lets that go so far before you can basically say, ‘I don’t want to participate in this challenge anymore.'” (https://bit.ly/2t1r0ES)

What Do People and a Deathclaw Have in Common?

Bethesda compared PVP in Fallout 76 to falling victim to a Deathclaw in one of the single player games. They explained that when a player dies, you can either decide to go take on the challenge again or move onto something else. This is how it should work with human players. They can’t keep coming after you just like a Deathclaw will stop chasing you if you manage to evade the creature for long enough.

GIANT MUTANT SLOTH! Just one of the many new creatures wandering the wasteland.

While plenty of details are sure to follow this news in the following months, Bethesda assured fans that they will be constantly tweaking and supporting the game over its lifespan. Hopefully, dedicated players can’t find ways to circumvent Fallout 76’s troll blocks because we here at Gigamax are very excited to enjoy an uninterrupted journey through the wasteland.

Devil May Cry 5 Launches in 2019

Devil May Cry 5 Launches in 2019

Devil May Cry 4 came out a decade ago and fans are finally getting a true sequel after 10 long years. Microsoft revealed during their E3 2018 press conference that Devil May Cry 5 will hit consoles and PC in spring of 2019. Along with the big reveal and release date announcement, the company offered fans a look into what the latest iteration of the series is all about.

As shown in the trailer above, Devil May Cry 5 plans on featuring more of the slick and stylish combat system rather than the hack and slash style that comes to mind when thinking about Devil May Cry. The director of the game, Hideaki Itsuno, walked on stage to speak about Capcom’s efforts to improve both the combat and controls of the beloved series. All of the game’s development is being handled internally at Capcom and as the trailer showed, Nero will be making his way back into the game with his trusty sword, Red Queen from Devil May Cry 4.

Get Ready To Be Impressed

Capcom also stated that the studio is working around the clock to create world-class visuals that are sure to impress both long-time fans and newcomers alike. Itsuno also pointed out that Devil May Cry 5 is a true sequel to the last numbered game in the series and is the best action experience Capcom has developed yet.

In a press release that came out after the press conference, Capcom revealed more details on the upcoming action game. “A brand-new entry in the legendary over-the-top action series comes to Xbox One in spring 2019, complete with its signature blend of high-octane stylized action and otherworldly and original characters the series is known for. Years have passed since the legions of hell have set foot in this world, but now a new demonic invasion has begun, and humanity’s last hope will rest in the hands of three lone demon hunters, each offering a radically different play style. United by fate and a thirst for vengeance, these demon hunters will have to face their demons if they hope to survive. The devil you know returns in the most over the top, technically advanced, utterly insane action experience of this generation.” (https://bit.ly/2sYj72R)

Kingdom Hearts 3 Release Date Finally Set

Kingdom Hearts 3 Release Date Announced

After over a decade of anticipation, Square Enix finally set a release date for the long-awaited game, Kingdom Hearts 3. This title will mark the conclusion to the main trilogy that follows the adventures of Sora, Donald, and Goofy through Disney themed worlds with a splash of Final Fantasy thrown in for good measure.

The third game has big plans to expand the scope of the universe and prove that they still have what it takes to blend eastern and western characters. Kingdom Hearts 3 will release on both the Xbox One and PS4 on January 29th, 2019. Immediately following the announcement, Square Enix revealed a new trailer for the game during Microsoft’s E3 press conference.

The World is Stunned

Many were shocked at the sudden nature of this announcement, with the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter account revealing the release date with no build up or celebration on the first day of E3 2018. While fans of the series are aware that Kingdom Hearts 3 has been in development for years, series creator Tetsuya Nomura said at last year’s D23 event that the game’s release date was planned for 2018. During a fan event for the game in May, he had announced that a final release date for the game would be made public very soon.

Fans can still expect to visit Disney themed worlds throughout their journey to save the universe from being consumed by darkness. Although, this time around Pixar is making their debut in the beloved series. As of now, Square Enix confirmed that Frozen, Tangled, Big Hero Six, Hercules, Toy Story, and Monsters Inc. levels are all present in Kingdom Hearts 3.

Keep Those Fingers Crossed

Hopefully, this will actually be the final release date for the game. With the amount of gameplay and details the developer has revealed, people have high hopes it will happy. Everyone at Gigamax Games is big fans of the Kingdom Hearts series and plenty of coverage for the game is on its way as the release date draws closer. Operation Para Bellum Now Live in Rainbow Six: Siege

Operation Para Bellum

Rainbow Six: Siege’s Operation Para Bellum has made its way to both consoles and PC. The new update adds a new map, Villa, for everyone and two new operators, Maestro and Alibi, which are exclusive for season pass holders for a week. This new DLC signals the launch of Siege’s second season of the game’s third year, and is one of the largest updates Rainbow Six has seen.

Welcome New Operators

The duo of new operators are members of the Italian G.I.S. and will automatically be unlocked for any players that have Siege’s Year 3 pass. Alibi has a Prisma ability which allows her to create a holographic copy of herself in an idle position. If Alibi places the equipment outside, attackers will receive an “operator outside” briefing. No matter where the hologram is deployed, Alibi will be alerted when her double is attacked and the operator that shot the gadget will be marked for a short time.

Maestro has a deployable gadget known as the Evil Eye, which is a remote-controlled camera that can see through smoke and fire shock beams. The turret acts as a bulletproof camera until Maestro decides to open fire exposing the core that attackers can destroy.

Ready For A New Map?

Villa is Rainbow Six: Siege’s 20th map and will replace Tower in ranked mode. Ubisoft said that the map is an Italian home that housed a local crime syndicate and their illegal activities. According to the story, Team Rainbow is approaching the house as the family is on the retreat.

Operation Para Bellum Gameplay

Operation Para Bellum contains a host of other changes. In the Custom Games category, players will be able to take advantage of the new Pick and Ban system. Ubisoft described this mode as an extra layer of strategy between teammates as both teams try to coordinate which operators to ban. The latest patch also adds deployable bulletproof cameras, a new animation for a diffuser taking out a bomb, adjustments to both drop shotting and operators speed, new observation tool management, buffs for the operator echo and map Clubhouse, as well as a new discovery playlist.

There are a host of changes coming along with Operation Para Bellum. Rainbow Six: Siege continues to evolve and Gigamax Games will continue watching this popular first-person shooter closely. Keep checking back for the latest gaming news, reviews, and updates.

Borderlands Remastered Rumored To Be On The Way

According to recent reports, the original Borderlands could be getting a second chance on the latest generation of consoles. The game initially launched back in 2009 on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. At the time, the shooter managed to put a new twist on the genre by adding RPG elements to an FPS. Fans who’ve only had the chance to play the later games through the Handsome Jack Collection could finally have the complete series.

Video Game Publication, Gematsu, reports that the Korean Game Ratings Board rated a title named Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition. While this has not been officially confirmed, the news indicates a remake of the game is heading to PS4, Xbox One, and PC in at least South Korea.

Could Boardlands Be Coming Back?

The first Borderlands launched to critical acclaim almost a decade ago. Critics praised multiple facets of the game including gunplay, loot, characters, and its cartoon-like cel-shaded art style. Although, many disliked the game’s bland setting which was a barren desert for most of the experience. The game also introduced the series unique weapon design that randomizes millions of different guns into the world.

Unfortunately, the developer behind the series, Gearbox, said Borderlands 3 will not be making an appearance at this year’s E3 press conference. Even though over the past couple of years, there have been many hints that suggest the next game may not even be named “Borderlands 3”, which would suit the series’ sarcastic sense of humor.

We here at Gigamax are big fans of the Borderlands series and can’t wait to see an official reveal for the remaster. Hopefully, Gearbox will show up to E3 with at least some news about a sequel. Until then, it looks like we’ll have to rely on the games we know and love to hold us over.

State of Decay 2 Posts Impressive Player Count in Only Two Days

State of Decay 2 Hits 1,000,000 Players

When the zombie outbreak finally starts, it will take a large group of people working together to fight off the undead horde. Luckily for State of Decay 2 players, this new Xbox exclusive title hit 1 million players in two days after it launched worldwide last Tuesday (5/22/18).

Although, like Sea of Thieves, it is hard to gauge the number of sales State of Decay 2 received due to the game currently being available with the Xbox Games Pass, Microsoft’s relatively new game streaming service. Those that belong to the service pay a monthly fee to play games while they are available on the service.

Microsoft and Undead Labs also noted a couple of other impressive facts about the recent release. According to the companies, from May 18th to May 22nd players have played a collective 6 million hours and streamed 3.5 million hours on Mixer, Twitch, and Youtube with 41,000 broadcasts.

Survive The Chaos

Gamers surviving the apocalypse have murdered over 675 million undead monsters, distracted the beasts with 6 million firecrackers and fireworks, satiated their hunger on 6 million bags of snacks, gained knowledge from 2 million textbooks, and the average survival rate is three in game days.

Despite the impressive numbers, State of Decay 2 had a bit of a tough launch. Many reviewers scored the game on the low side due to the amount of bugs they encountered while trying to take on the zombie menace. Critics also spoke poorly about the game’s lack of depth and the amount of systems that go unrealized throughout the experience.

Gigamax Games is currently playing State of Decay 2, but are too early in the game to give a proper impression. Hopefully, Undead Labs can address fans concerns surrounding the number of bugs because too many poor reviews on an exclusive for a system that has very few could really hurt Microsofts sales and the console as a whole.

Epic Makes Big Announcement Concerning Competitive Fortnite

Epic Makes Big Announcement Concerning Competitive Fortnite

Epic Games recently showed off their latest plans regarding competitive Fortnite. The developer officially revealed that they will provide $100 million in various prize pools for the 2018-2019 season. They clarified this in a small blog post where they shared their thoughts on making competitive Fortnite along with the overall experience of playing and watching the game more inclusive.

“We’re getting behind competitive play in a big way, but our approach will be different,” Epic Games explained. “We plan to be more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game.” (https://bit.ly/2IwOWJM)

More details on how the tournaments will be structured and the platforms they have planned will be revealed in the weeks ahead. (We will be sure to offer an update whenever the company shares what its plans are.)

That’s Big Money

According to the website E-Sports Earnings, the $100 million that Epic Games plans on dishing out more than doubles the $38 million in total prize money that Valve had given out for all of the Dota 2 tournaments that were held through 2017. Valve’s biggest Dota 2 event, The International, paid out what was once the biggest prize pool in gaming history with an astounding $25 million for the one event. To compare another ultra-popular game, Blizzard’s first Overwatch Tournament only has a prize pool of 3.5 million for its entire season.

Fortnite brings in almost $1 million a day from just the mobile version of the game and according to analysts, the PC and console version both make more money than that in a single day. The game may be free, but the industry is quickly embracing the trend of charging for cosmetics that have no impact on gameplay. Most developers see this as a fair revenue source that makes their game both competitive and profitable.

Epic Games currently has a competitive Fortnite competition planned for E3 2018, where celebrities and players will play Duos together.

In other news, Fortnite just received another big update that finally added the long-awaited jetpack into the game. This is shortly after the game’s latest limited time mode, Solo Showdown, which was a competitive version of Fortnites’ famous solo mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Getting Battle Royale Mode

Black Ops 4 Getting Battle Royale Mode

After a multitude of teases and consistent leaks over the past couple of weeks, Activision finally revealed their latest addition to the Call of Duty series, Black Ops 4. Like the games that have come before it, Black Ops 4 will contain a variety of new and returning game modes such as Call of Duty’s hit zombie mode. This year’s installment to the series will feature Treyarch’s take on the Battle Royale genre.

Who’s Surprised?

Currently being called, Blackout, the new mode will have players battling until there is only one left standing much like the popular games PUBG and Fortnite. Blackout sets itself apart from the aforementioned titles by relying heavily on the previous Black Ops titles. Treyarch already stated that it wants to make a Battle Royale mode in their own way and to achieve that, they added elements from the entire series into the mode.

According to the developer, the map that players will drop into is the biggest one the company has ever made and will incorporate locations from previous Black Ops games. Players will also be able to use weapons and items from every entry of the series, including the infamous RC Car. Another new twist that Treyarch is including is land, air, and sea vehicles that will randomly spawn around the map. Finally, players will be able to take control of famous names from the series like Reznov, Hudson, and Mason.

The Reveal Continues

Activision also dropped a bunch of other details about Call of Duties: Black Ops 4 during today’s special reveal event. On top of Blackout, the developer discussed the brand new zombies campaign at length. The mode places a stronger emphasis on mystery and is set across three maps. The company mentioned that Black Ops 4 won’t have a traditional single player campaign, instead, the game will have solo missions that focus on each of its Specialist characters.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 12th, which is a month earlier than the series typically releases. PC players will need to have a Battle.net account in order to buy the game as it is being exclusively sold through the service. A beta is going to be held for the game but Activision has yet to set a date for the test. Pre-ordering Black Ops 4 will gives gamers a chance to take part in the highly anticipated beta-test.

Be sure to stop by Gigamax Games in October for gameplay as the crew will surely be picking this game up if nothing else out of curiosity.

For Love of the Game: Sea of Thieves Review

For Love of the Game: Sea of Thieves Review

Review by, William Griston – Gigamax Games Contributor

Rare always managed to excite my imagination, starting with their entries in the Donkey Kong Franchise on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and the Highly Underrated(amongst people who haven’t played it, that is) Conker’s Bad Fur Day on the Nintendo 64. When Microsoft acquired Rare from Nintendo in the early 2000s, I was pretty disheartened. I had expected the monolithic Microsoft to utterly destroy the Rare I knew. I am sure many of you have experienced the same palpable dread from time to time when it comes to this hobby.  With Bethesda’s acquisition of id Software, those fears were proven immature with the eventual release of Doom(2016). Easily one of the best shooters I’ve played in the last decade.

sea of thieves, sea of thieves review, video game reviews, content contributor, william reviews, gigamax reviews, latest games, xbox one, pc games, pc gaming, latest reviews, gigamax, gigamax games

After a faltering start on both the Original Xbox and the Xbox 360, those misgivings were finally assuaged with Sea of Thieves. Sea of Thieves is a return to form for the legendary Rare. the world is brimming with soul, passion, and character. Often criticised for its’ lack of content, the much-maligned Sea of Thieves quickly endeared itself to me. I wasn’t a “day one” player like much of the initial player base, but I did get into the game shortly after it was released(about a week), and was quite enamored with the world that Rare managed to craft.

From The Beginning

Sea of Thieves offers a rather large oceanic sandbox with a plethora of well designed and unique islands to explore by yourself or with a cadre of like-minded scoundrels of the sea.

The game opens up inside a fairly nondescript tavern with a bevy of pirates for you to choose as your avatar, you can lock specific models and generate more if you so choose. After choosing your pirate, you’re greeted with a screen giving you the option of playing on a Galleon(3-4 Player Vessel) or a Sloop(1-2 Player Vessel).

sea of thieves, sea of thieves review, video game reviews, content contributor, william reviews, gigamax reviews, latest games, xbox one, pc games, pc gaming, latest reviews, gigamax, gigamax games

The names of the various islands and outposts have a pirate-y feel to them(Keel Haul Fort, Shark Fin Camp, Skull Keep, Tri-Rock Isle). The dearth of Ocean to explore is both a blessing and a curse, with a tailwind you can cross the map in short order. With a headwind, you’re in for a slow trek across what seems to be an endless sea pocked with little bits of adventure. The RNG factor of the Wind led my crew and me to name our vessel “The Br(e)aking Wind” because you’re never too old for fart jokes.

The weakest part of the game is definitely the PVE(Player vs Environment) aspect of the game, as you’re limited to four different kinds of radiant quests given to you from one of three factions.

The Gold Hoarders, The Merchant Alliance, and finally The Order of Souls.

I am partial to the Gold Hoarders quest line, which has the stereotypical pirate’s map with an X marks the spot mechanic as well as cryptic poems of the riddle maps which start of with something like “Crescent has riches vast, from forgotten stories in the past.”

Next is the Merchant Alliance Quests, which are in essence timed fetch quests.

Go collect 300 chickens and go to this island before a fixed amount of time has passed. I found these quests to be pretty mundane if we’re being honest.

Finally, we have the Order of Souls quests, which give you a single quest or a series of quests to find and eliminate a crew of skeletons and claim the skull of the Captain.

The faction quests are akin to the quests that you are given in Skyrim, in that they generally target islands in fairly close proximity to each other, and if you pray to RNGesus, your vessel.

Where Sea of Thieves Shines

Where the game truly shines is the PVP(Player Versus Player) aspect, assuming you can find a crew of individuals with the few things required for success in Sea of Thieves: A working mic,  ears, and a couple thumbs. Sarcasm aside, with a properly crewed and run Galleon, you can rule the seas with nary a vessel to challenge your prowess. I have had the most fun trying to hit the other vessels with a Gunpowder Barrel, or simply firing myself over in a Cannon and attempting to wreak as much havoc as I can while my shipmates send a barrage of lead. The cacophony of cannons playing a boisterous dirge for the soon to be doomed ship. Something my crew and I try to do is start off our play with a Skull fort, after which we try not to visit an outpost until someone has to log off, we find that having a belly full of loot makes the PVP that much more exciting.

You play a bit harder when you have something to lose.

The meat and potatoes of the game is definitely the sailing aspect, and you are going to be doing a lot of it. Steering the vessel is done on the poop deck with the wheel, which will turn one or two full revolutions left or right depending on whether or not you’re on a Sloop or a Galleon

On each side of the ship, there are controls to raise, lower, and rotate the sails. Which controls operate which sail are pretty obvious even to a neophyte. The main key to traversing the seas is catching the wind as much as possible, otherwise, you are in for a long voyage.

Final Thoughts

Graphically, Sea of Thieves has the best looking and most realistic water effects I’ve ever seen in a video game. The character models are cartoony and have that stylised Rare feel to them, as do much of the Islands, vessels, and buildings themselves. Assuming you’re on a PC, even on the lowest graphical settings, you’ll have a gorgeous well-designed game to play.

sea of thieves, sea of thieves review, video game reviews, content contributor, william reviews, gigamax reviews, latest games, xbox one, pc games, pc gaming, latest reviews, gigamax, gigamax games

If you’re looking for a sandbox pirate game with enough content to keep you going for at least a week or two at a casual pace, and you enjoy PVP interactions, you’ll love Sea of Thieves.

If a set goal with a clear road of advancement is more your speed, I’d give Sea of Thieves a pass.

Regardless, I’ll be continuing my journey.

See you on the Seas, Y’arr. This article was based upon the PC/Microsoft Store version of Sea of Thieves, and may not be applicable to the Xbox One Version in any way shape or form.

Destiny 2’s Warmind Expansion Brings Back the Grind

Destiny 2’s Warmind Expansion Brings Back the Grind

In the most recent developer update from Bungie, Destiny 2’s senior designer, Daniel Auchenpaugh, discussed how the power level grind will be changed in the upcoming Warmind expansion. This will be the second major update the game is receiving and there are some major changes on the horizon. Basically, what this means is that it will be much harder for Guardians to max out their power levels once Warmind drops in May.

Warmind, destiny 2, expansion, destiny 2 expansion, bungie, gaming news, gigamax games, video game news

Where Did The Rewards Go?

Auchenpaugh also explained that the new public events won’t hold the lucrative rewards they have been known for recently. Clan engrams also won’t help players progress through levels on their own anymore. Warmind’s soft level cap is currently set at 340, which means that players will only be able to move up 10 power levels from  Curse of Osiris’ max level with the help of open world drops. Although, it was also stated that the hard level cap for Warmind is 380.

For gamers that have been playing Destiny 2 since launch, the grind from 340 to 380 may sound simple, but Bungie assured fans that the process will go much slower than anything they’ve released before. Auchenpaugh also stated that even players that complete every end-game activity a week will still need to wait for several resets in order to reach the new cap. As per usual, the best rewards drop from Raids and Trials while low tier gear can be earned through clan engrams.

The Grind is Real!

Players should also prepare for the grind from 370 to 380, which is set to test the patience of even the most seasoned Destiny veterans. All of these changes are to help address fans concerns that Destiny 2 had been streamlined to the point where it became too easy. With all of these updates, the longevity of Warmind is sure to be much better than both the base game and the Curse of Osiris expansion.

It should also be noted that all of the numbers mentioned above are assuming that no legendary mods are installed. Bungie is set to reveal more about the next expansion during a live stream on April 24th, before the expansion drops on May 8th.
