Friday the 13th Developer Provides DLC Roadmap

Friday the 13th Dev Provides DLC Roadmap

Fans of the very popular Friday the 13th game will be happy to hear that the developer behind the game, Gun Media, has no plans to abandon the project. In fact, to show players that they are still working hard, the team has provided a “DLC Roadmap” in the form of a colorful infographic that seems like it is intentionally drawn like a camp brochure. The indie developer shared this chart on their forums where they also addressed plans for upcoming single-player content.

While the roadmap itself does not share any dates but does show the long-term goals of the developer and a ton of the DLC’s coming to the game. According to the chart, fans can expect new maps, modes, and a lot of new cosmetic options for Jason and the councilors. Other updates include new emotes, Jason types, and councilors. This all comes in the wake of the developer’s teaser video, released in August, that gave vague details of their DLC plans.

The Roadmap:

DLC Roadmap, Fridaythe13th, friday the 13th, jason gameplay, indie games, indie developer, new games, latest games, video games, gigamax, gigamax games

In the forum post, the developers explained their progress for fixing bugs across the various platforms Friday the 13th is available on. Most importantly they laid out plans for getting content onto the Xbox, a process that has been admittedly too slow. According to the developer, this is because of Microsoft’s strict rules and guidelines for updating games.

That’s Not All!

The team also explained that single player was delayed from its previous summer release because they wanted to focus on fixing the core game first. Now that the stability issues have been addressed, the developers are reassigning resources to make sure that this feature gets added as soon as possible, including hiring additional staff. The Roadmap indicates that single-player mode will seemingly be a number of different challenge modes rather than a conventional campaign.

Hopefully, players will start seeing this content soon as the game was relatively bare bones when it first hit consoles. We are big fans of this game over here at Gigamax and are excited to see more DLC come to this exciting indie game. Make sure to keep checking back with Gigamaxgames.com for more on Friday the 13th’s DLC roadmap as information becomes available.

Destiny 2 Server and Raid Launch Times

Destiny 2 Server and Raid Launch Times

It’s finally here, Destiny 2 launches next week and Bungie has clarified many of the specifics behind their first person shooters release. To kick off the list of big announcements, the developer confirmed when Destiny 2’s servers will go live. The game will be officially released at Midnight in countries around the world and for the U.S. that means Midnight EST.

While Destiny 2 may not go live until September 6th, Playstation 4 players can start pre loading the game if they have the game pre purchased (Like the dedicated guardians in the Gigamax crew). Unfortunately, Bungie has yet to state when pre loading on the PC and Xbox One will start but hopefully it will be soon.

The Hype Train Is Here

To further build up the hype, Bungie detailed when Destiny 2’s first Nightfall Strike, Raid, and Trials of Osiris will begin. As for the Nightfall Strikes, they will be available from the start of the game but probably won’t be completed for at least a week due to their difficult nature. The Raid will kick off at 10 AM PT/ 1 PM ET/ 6 PM BST on September 13th, with Trials of Osiris launching at the same times on September 15th.

Those that don’t enjoy spoilers will be happy to hear that Bungie is being super protective of details on the raid so that nothing is ruined by a leak. “If you have witnessed the race to become the first to topple the final boss, you know we keep Raid info well under wraps,” Bungie said. “These are your moments to discover–your mysteries to solve. We’ve given you the when. You will soon discover the who, the what, and the where. Together, as a team, you might even discover the how.” (http://bit.ly/2wsXTuq)

New Features!

The Guided Games feature won’t roll out until September 12th at 1 PM ET and Bungie explained it will be a “Soft Beta” which essentially means only certain players will have access to the experience. Guided Games is Destiny 2’s new feature that hooks solo players up with clans to help take on some of the more daunting tasks throughout the game. This may help keep people without a solid raid crew interest in the game and lend a helping hand so they can experience what the full game really has to offer.

Capcom Reveals New Street Fighter 5 Character

Capcom Reveals New Street Fighter 5 Character

Capcom officially revealed Menat, a brand new DLC fighter for Street Fighter 5. A trailer for the new character was unveiled during the Hong Kong Esports festival which is currently the home for the Capcom Pro Tour. Players will have the chance to get their hands on the fighter on August 29th.

Menat is a female Egyptian character that primarily uses orbs as her weapon of choice. Fans of the series are comparing her to Rose from the Street Fighter Alpha/Zero games. Much like Rose, Menat has the ability to reflect projectiles and can summon her orbs to form a barrier around her using the V-Trigger special.

Menat’s Orbs Are Deadly

While Menat seems like a fairly complex character meant for advanced players, she looks deadly in the hands of veteran fighters. While using the character, players can position orbs around the field to control areas and launch them at opponents as well as call them back. The orbs make extending lengthy combos and juggling a breeze and seems like the perfect way to set up brutal attacks and manage distance.

Menat also has a few other tricks up her sleeve. For one, she can use a powerful divekick to close distance and has a few grab moves at her disposal. She also has access to a teleport in the form of a V-Reversal which means trapping her in a corner will not be an easy task. Capcom has also detailed the various costumes that will be available for the character when she launches.

Street Fighter, Menat, update, sf5, gaming news, gigamax games, gigamax,

Menat will cost players $6 or can be gained from the $30 expansion pass for season 2 which also includes Akuma, Kolin, Ed, and Abigail. Capcom also revealed new costumes for a variety of the characters in the game to coincide with Menat’s release. Each of the new costumes will cost players $4 and will celebrate the game’s 30th anniversary.

Have Mercy: Blizzard Buffs Popular Healer

Have Mercy: Blizzard Buffs Popular Healer

It seems that every few months Blizzard likes to change the meta for their insanely popular hero based shooter, Overwatch. This time around their monthly update includes changes to the way D.Va and Mercy operate. As of now, these updates are live on the PTR for gamers to test out and fans will notice that those aren’t the only changes.

The most robust overhaul is coming to the popular healer, Mercy, who is getting a completely different ultimate. Not to worry though, she can still resurrect people only now it’s a standard ability. Instead of reviving all her teammates with her ultimate, now it only resurrects one partner within five meters, has a 30 second cool down, and she is not invincible while casting the power.

Mercy, update, d.va, overwatch, overwatch update, gameplay, gigamax, gigamax news, latest games, pc, ps4, xbox one

The Dawn of Valkyrie

Her new ultimate is aptly named Valkyrie, which according to Blizzard “unleashes the full power of Mercy’s Valkyrie suit.” This power buffs both her suit and weapons in an extraordinary way. Check out the full list of what happens when the ultimate activates:

  • Caduceus Staff: Mercy’s healing and damage boost beams now affect all allies near the targeted teammate, and the staff’s effective range has been extended
  • Caduceus Blaster: Granted infinite ammo, while simultaneously increasing damage and fire rate
  • Guardian Angel: Increased range and movement speed
  • Resurrect: Cooldown is instantly reset when Valkyrie is activated and reduced to 10s after the initial cast
  • Hover: Mercy gains the ability to fly freely, at increased movement speed
  • Regeneration (Passive): No longer interrupted when Mercy takes damage

Blizzard explains why they decided to update the beloved healer, “While resurrecting downed allies is a core part of Mercy’s gameplay, the way her Ultimate functioned was causing a number of problems,” they continued “It was frustrating to play against, and it incentivized Mercy players to hide away from important battles, instead of taking part in them. This version turns Resurrect into a single target ability. It’s still an important part of Mercy’s kit, but plays much better for both Mercy players and her enemies. Valkyrie, the new Ultimate, gives her the opportunity to make big game-making plays and opens a number of new options for her.”

Mercy, update, d.va, overwatch, overwatch update, gameplay, gigamax, gigamax news, latest games, pc, ps4, xbox one

Nerf This

Also new to the update are Blizzards previously detailed and controversial changes to the way D.Va plays. To make her a more formidable attacker she’s been given a cluster of micro-missiles as well as the ability to fly and shoot at the same time. Sound a little unfair? It probably is and that’s why they are also nerfing the recharge rate of her defense matrix. Finally, the only other character change is while Reinhardt has his shield up players can click the attack button and spin the camera 360 degrees.

Overwatch fans are certainly voicing their opinions on the latest changes and as usual they range from anger to overt happiness. We hear at Gigamax just love to watch the chaos following a dramatic update to this insanely popular game. It is not surprising that fans get so emotional during these times considering how invested many players are and the competitive nature of the game.

Star Wars Battlefront 2: EA Details Space Combat

The next big gaming press conference, Gamescom, is opening its doors next week and as a preview, EA detailed what plans they have for Star Wars Battlefront 2. To start off, EA will release a brand new trailer and give a live demonstration of the upcoming Starfighter Assault mode. This new variant of combat is a new experience for the sequel after many fans complained that the first game’s aerial fights were a bit lackluster.

EA’s plans for the new dog fighting mode go far beyond that of the first games. Starfighter Assault itself is a multi stage mode that features ships and characters from the first three Star Wars movies (4,5,6). The demo the development team is showing off will be fought on Fondor: Imperial Shipyard map. EA also detailed that there will be fighters, bombers, and ships that will be unique to certain heroes.

Building It Better From The Ground Up

The gaming studio also wants fans to know that flying will be a better experience overall in Star Wars Battlefront 2. Some of the ways they plan on improving aerial combat include better controls, deeper customization, and making ship selection role based which impacts team gameplay. The gameplay reveal will happen on August 21st at 12:30 PM ET and 9:30 AM PT.

Fondor: Imperial Shipyard will be one of the maps available to players looking to try out the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront 2 beta in October. Dog fighting won’t be the only combat featured in the beta, a more standard Battlefront 2 mode will also be playable on the Theed Galactic Assault map.

As for Gamescom, the event runs from August 22-26th in Cologne, Germany. It is by far one of the biggest international game conferences and manages to pull in hundreds of thousands of gamers and industry experts each year. Plenty of news is set to come from this year’s event so be sure to keep checking back with Gigamax for all the latest updates!

Yooka Laylee Spit N’ Polish Update Out Now

Earlier this year the developers behind Yooka Laylee, Playtonic Games, launched an update for the PC version titled “Spit N’ Polish.” This update fixed many peoples issues with the platformer that was inspired by the glory days of Banjo-Kazooie and as of yesterday, the patch has been added to the PS4 and Xbox One editions of the game.

One of the many changes that the indie developer made was a new optional camera that gives the player way more control over where they can position the once fidgety system. This seemed to be one of the main concerns of the Spit N’ Polish update as many reviewers considered the camera to be a major downside to the experience.

In addition to the new camera, the game also makes adjustments to the game’s flying and first person aim controls, the ability to skip cutscenes and dialogue, an option to shorten the iconic “gibberish” voice acting, and tons more that Playtonic detailed on their Spit N’ Polish blog post.

Some of the bigger changes include:

  • Pagies have added signposts to Hivory Towers to help guide players to new worlds
  • Design tweaks to all arcade games
  • Improved speed when scrolling through Totals Menu
  • New moves section added to pause menu, with image guide
  • Restart option added in the pause menu during arcade games and Kartos challenges
  • “Sonar-able” objects now have clearer visual identity
  • Laser move no longer requires player to crouch
  • Improved Transformation controls
  • Minecart control and hitbox improvements
  • Improved Rampo boss fight
  • Performance improvements

Playtonic is still hard at work on the Nintendo Switch version,  set to replace the canceled Wii U version of Yooka Laylee. No release date has been set for their return to Nintendo but Playtonic tweeted a picture of the game running on the new console so hopefully, we’ll see it soon. The developer also detailed that the Switch version would come with the Spit N’ Polish update already implemented.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War Getting Loot Boxes

Middle Earth: Shadow of War Getting Loot Boxes

Both Warner Brothers and Monolith showed off some new details for their upcoming game Middle Earth: Shadow of War. Surprisingly they’ve revealed that the sequel will have a microtransaction store referred to as the Market. The forum post detailed that players will be able to purchase items such as loot chests, war chests, XP boosts, and bundles. They also clarified that an internet connection is necessary to access this content, which seems to confirm that the boxes will cost real world money. However, cash won’t be the only way to acquire the in-game currency.

The Nemesis System

Monolith went on to justify the inclusion of this often times frowned upon game structure by stating “An important aspect of the Nemesis System now comes in forging, customizing, and leading your own army of unique Orc followers against the fortresses of Mordor.” They continued “There are different ways to do this, including dominating Orcs by exploring the vast open-world and encountering them as part of Orc society, or players can acquire Orcs and other items through the Market (in-game store).” (http://bit.ly/2va9oGD)

Time For Some Rewards

According to the developer, these are the various rewards players can expect upon opening the various loot crates available.

Loot Chests contain Gear (weapons and armor) of varying rarity. Equipping and upgrading these weapons and armor enhance Talion’s character abilities. Loot Chests can also contain XP Boosts that help level up Talion faster.
War Chests provide Orc followers of varying rarity to help forge a strong army. They can also contain Training Orders to level up and customize Orc followers.
XP Boosts are consumables that help level up Talion faster.
Bundles package up Loot Chests, War Chests and Boosts together at a great value.

Monolith also mentioned that there were two ways to earn the in game currency necessary to purchase the micro transactions. The first way they went over was to earn “Mirian” which is attainable by accomplishing various in game activities such as defeating Treasure Orcs, destroying gear, destroying orc followers, and finding it in stashes located throughout the game. The second way detailed was to purchase a separate in game currency called “Gold”, which can be purchased with real cash from the Xbox, Playstation, or Steam store.  The developer also clarified that no content in Shadow of War will be exclusive to the Gold currency and all content is accessible by playing the game.

Overview

No pricing details have been revealed for the micro transactions and probably won’t be available until they appear on the various e-stores. Microtransactions are nothing new to video games and as time moves on more and more developers are embracing the inclusion of using real money to access more content. Shadow of War is hitting consoles on October 10th after a small delay and Gigamax will definitely be playing this highly anticipated  title so be sure to keep checking back for more details!
