Telltale Announces Majority Studio Closure

Telltale, the developer behind many successful story-based games such as The Walking Dead, Batman, and The Wolf Among us, has released a statement confirming that the studio is at least partially closing down. While the announcement doesn’t include what will happen to their titles that are currently development but the studio did promise more updates in the upcoming weeks. Telltale is now run by a skeleton crew of 25 employees, but it is unclear how long they will be working for the company. You can see the full statement below:

Today Telltale Games made the difficult decision to begin a majority studio closure following a year marked by insurmountable challenges. A majority of the company’s employees were dismissed earlier this morning, with a small group of 25 employees staying on to fulfill the company’s obligations to its board and partners. CEO Pete Hawley issued the following statement:

“It’s been an incredibly difficult year for Telltale as we worked to set the company on a new course. Unfortunately, we ran out of time trying to get there. We released some of our best content this year and received a tremendous amount of positive feedback, but ultimately, that did not translate to sales. With a heavy heart, we watch our friends leave today to spread our brand of storytelling across the games industry.

Telltale will issue further comments regarding its product portfolio in the coming weeks.

Unfortunately, other than this report and some tweets from employees, details surrounding the closure are few and far between. It is always a shame to see a developer of this caliber forced to shut their doors, but in an industry that is quickly growing saturated, it is a sad consequence of having access to a massive amount of quality games.
