The upcoming side scroller Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, from the producer of Castlevania, Koji Igarashi, removed their support for Mac and Linux based operating systems. This news follows the developers' cancellation of the PlayStation Vita version, a delay into 2019, and adding resources from the developer behind the Shantae series, WayFoward.
Igarashi Breaks the Bloodstained News
This news was revealed by Igarashi himself on a post made through Kickstarter.
“Bloodstained will no longer be supported on Mac and Linux,” he wrote. “We have made this tough decision due to challenges of supporting middleware and online feature support and making sure we deliver on the rest of the scope for the game. We will be offering backers who planned to play the game on Mac and Linux the option to change the platform of their order.”
The post also included instructions on how backers can switch the platform they selected. Currently, the development team is set to produce versions of Bloodstained for PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
Kickstarter and Fans Made Bloodstained Possible
Bloodstained's journey began with a Kickstarter request that was able to secure over $5 million from 65,000 backers. The game was ranked 16 on the all-time top earners of the donation platform, grossing even more money the Dark Souls board game. Initially the game was supposed to release in March 2017, but delays have set it back to sometime 2019.
Unfortunately, the failure of Kickstarter video game projects to meet their own deadlines has led to a sharp decline in people donating money to projects. Funding fell from $42.5 million in 2015 to $17 million in 2018.
We'll be keeping a close eye on the status of Bloodstained so be sure to keep checking back with us here at GigamaxGames.com for all the latest on this controversial indie project.
Unsurprisingly, the recently released Spider-Man PS4 game has been pretty popular among fans of the web-slinging hero. What is surprising is that the game broke a variety of Sony sales records and set a new bar for all Triple-A titles on PlayStation 4.
A report from USA Today revealed that Spider-Man PS4 sold 3.3 million copies in only three days after the game launched. The previous record was set by God of War earlier this year when it sold 3.1 million copies in the first three days. Spider-Man was also able to break Sony's pre-order records at a whopping one million copies sold before the game even came out. All of these figures don't even take into account the sales of the PS4 Pro bundle that included a copy of Spider-Man PS4.
The game runs at the typical retail price of $60, which when added up, equates to about $198 million USD in revenue. This figure is more money than the recent Spider-Man Homecoming movie brought in at the box office. While this comparison sounds spectacular, it could be a bit off due to not every copy of the game being sold at $60 and movie tickets being considerably less expensive than a video game.
"Our expectations are always set at the highest levels," said Sony global VP of sales Stephen Turvey. "It's met and exceeded all expectations. I think the company, and the campus, and our fans are super proud of it." Turvey also stated that Insomniac Games managed to bring back Spider-Man "in a way that you want to experience it." It will be exciting to see how these sales figures grow along with the game as well. The question remains if gamers will commit to the DLC that will be released in the coming months. Whatever happens, you can rest assured knowing that GigamaxGames.com will be watching these developments closely.

Everything You Need to Know About Shadow of the Tomb Raider
The third installment of the rebooted Tomb Raider series will be released this September. From the trailers and extended gameplay videos, Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks every bit as good as Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider. As with each new installment, there will be some changes that will take the game to the next level. Here is everything we know about Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
The biggest change is how players can now customize the difficulty levels to suit their play style. In the previous two titles, the difficulty settings covered every aspect of the game. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider players will have the option to change the difficulty settings for combat, puzzles, and environment traversal. This will allow players who prefer the fighting aspect of the game to have the combat setting on hard and the puzzles on an easier difficulty. The game can now be tailored to a player’s preference.
Lara Evolves and Gamers Benefit
As with Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara has evolved to become much better at taking down her enemies. IGN reports that Lara can now cover herself in mud to enhance her stealth mode. She will also have a wider range of weapon upgrades. One exciting addition includes the fear arrow, which causes enemies to attack each other.
The map is also much bigger than before. The immense vertical spaces will offer plenty of opportunities for Lara to rappel, swing, wall walk, and use her rope and climbing axes. Swimming and underwater exploration will also be featured more prominently in the new game, as there is a plant that Lara can consume to extend her the amount of time she can hold her breath. There will be many more side quests and stories that reveal hidden tombs, artifacts, crypts, and other interesting locations and items.
The story will continue on from Rise of the Tomb Raider as Lara fights the evil Trinity. This time she will face them in Latin America and among Mayan ruins. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara will not only be saving the world from Trinity, but also fixing her own actions after she sets off the Mayan apocalypse.
No End in Sight for Tomb Raider
With the Tomb Raider franchise continuing to be successful more than 20 years after it was first released is a testament to the how ingrained the character has become in pop culture. We reported that this year the original 1996 Tomb Raider was inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is just the latest in the media empire that is the Tomb Raider franchise – one that’s been conquering multiple gaming and entertainment platforms for years.
Lara Croft continues to find new fans with the character being featured in games outside of the traditional adventure platform titles. Leading gaming platform Slingo has several titles adapted from popular video games, including the slot game Lara Croft Tomb Raider. While the game may lack the open world adventure of the new series, it features all the elements that have made Tomb Raider popular across the globe: Lara Croft, exotic locations, and ancient puzzles.
Outside of the gaming industry, the franchise has also continued to thrive. This year, a film adapted from the 2013 game was released starring Alicia Vikander. In 2018, Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider franchise has never been stronger.
It has been a three year wait for fans of Tomb Raider, and soon they will be able to once again experience a new adventure. From the violent opening that was shown off at gaming conventions, it looks like Shadow of the Tomb Raider will take the series further forward, and be another instant classic worthy of the franchise.
