Splatoon 2 Gets Huge Winter Update

Splatoon 2 Gets Huge Winter Update

To celebrate the holidays and bring attention back to the game, Nintendo is launching a Splatoon 2 Winter Update that adds a ton of new content to the shooter. Specifically, the add-on will include four new battle stages, a new salmon run map, four hairstyles, an increased level cap, new music and even more extra goodies.

Let's Take a Closer Look

The four new stages will begin rolling out today (11/24/17) starting with the map, MakoMart, a mall themed arena. The other three maps will be released at a later date and they include the brand new Shellendorf Institute, along with two returning maps from the first game Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall.

Those have hit the level cap of 50 will be pleased to hear that the new top tier is 99. Once that level is reached players have the option to prestige back down to level 1, a trend that has become very popular in multiplayer shooters. The devs also made achieving the goal a little faster by adding the ability to switch gear in-between matches so there is no need to break up matches to change weapons and armor.

Winter Update

Brand New Salmon Run!

A new Salmon Run stage is definitely a welcomed addition, but Nintendo has not addressed whether they plan on increasing the game mode's availability. Players can also expect to hear music from two new bands while they are fighting, and now Amiibo lets you take pictures on all available battle stages as well as the main square. The four new hairstyles include two fancy new cuts for boys characters and two fabulous cuts for girl squids.

Nintendo detailed a new game mode that will be arriving with the Winter Update in December called "Clam Blitz" which is so wacky we'll let them explain, "In Clam Blitz, competing Inklings are tasked with collecting clams scattered around the stage. After one is picked up, the clam follows the player. The objective is to throw the clam into the basket near the opponent’s base. The first team to score 100 points wins! But, of course, this being the fiercely competitive world of Splatoon 2, things are not as easy as they seem. The baskets are protected by a barrier, which must be destroyed first. After collecting 10 clams, the player will earn a Power Clam. These super-powered clams are the key to breaking the barrier, so strategy will definitely be involved in which clams are used to destroy the barrier and which are used to earn points. Not to mention the extra-satisfying opportunity to steal opponents’ clams by splatting them…"

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Splatoon 2 is the gift that keeps on giving, and the Winter Update is a big present! Nintendo knocked it out of the park with their take on the multiplayer shooter and with the consistent rate of huge updates we can't see ourselves putting down this title anytime soon. We're pumped to start playing the newest update and attempting to hit the new level cap (despite not being close to level 50). This is certainly not the last update Splatoon 2 will receive so be sure to keep checking back with GigamaxGames.com for more information on this awesome title!

Switch Success Causes Developers To Scramble

Switch Success Causes Developers To Scramble

Nintendo takes the throne once again as a driving force within the gaming industry. The Japanese video game maker faced some troubled times starting with the Wii and continuing through the release of the Wii U.  Now the company and their new console are once again in the limelight for a good reason. Since it was released in 2012, the Wii U sold 13.56 million consoles worldwide but the Nintendo Switch is expected to dwarf those numbers.

Time For Big Numbers

Launching in March of this year, Nintendo expects to sell 14 million consoles by the end of March 2018. They increased their forecast from 10 million consoles and all this buzz is beginning to catch the attention of game publishers and developers across the globe. Nintendo has welcomed third-party and independent developers to develop software for the Switch but previous blunders kept most away. However, with the Switch flying off the shelves, people are scrambling to get a piece of the pie.

Bandai Namco Takes Notice

Recently news broke that Bandai Namco, a highly respected Japanese game developer, will be producing three Switch-exclusive games. Expected to release between the spring and summer of 2018, word broke after their latest financial briefing. Executives from the company admit they were surprised by the success of the new console and want to bring three 'big' games to the revolutionary console. There were no other details but the fact that it caught the attention of this big name developer could mean this is only the beginning.

Major Industry Players Impressed

Even well-known industry players like Phil Harrison who was instrumental in launching the original PlayStation in the mid-90's was impressed by Nintendo's latest success. He states in an interview with GamesBeat, "Nintendo has surprised me in a good way. They've put some excitement back in, or at least added a dynamic to the console equation that wasn't there previously." (http://bit.ly/2zDO41g)

Harrison makes mention about adding a dynamic console to the market and this is a major realization game developers and even console manufacturers have made as well. Switching up how people view a gaming console could be the beginning of a fundamental shift that takes place throughout the industry.

A Look At The Power Of The Switch

The Future Looks Bright

The future looks bright for the Switch and Nintendo as a whole. Games that were never expected to make it to a Nintendo console like Skyrim and Doom being released have people excited. Opening the doors to independent developers is absolutely mindblowing. Developers openly stating that they are surprised by its success and beginning to develop games for the new console is impressive. However what's more impressive is what this could mean for gaming.

The video game industry was flipped upside down with the emergence of the Nintendo Switch. There are big things coming and gamers are the ones that will benefit.

Super Mario Odyssey – Let’s Play Page with Gigamax

Super Mario Odyssey – Let’s Play Page with Gigamax

Well, the time came for Nintendo to reveal their latest Mario game to the world and people lost absolutely lost their minds. Super Mario Odyssey was a welcomed addition to the Mario franchise and nearly every Mario fan agrees that this is up there in terms of the best Mario games to ever release. Something completely unique and unlike any other Mario game, Nintendo truly delivered an amazing experience.

This has been the year of Nintendo and releasing this massive hit continued their winning streak. The Nintendo Switch has allowed this incredible company to take this classic character to entirely new heights. Not only is it great to play as Mario once again on Nintendo’s most impressive console in years, but it’s an incredible game through and through. Even if it wasn’t Mario in front of the controls, the game itself can go toe to toe with any platformer on the market today. From each unique kingdom to the puzzles and amount of content, gamers can enjoy hours of Super Mario Odyssey without getting bored.

One thing has been consistent in terms of criticism, people were asking for more Kingdoms. The campaign may not be the longest but after finishing the core game, it doesn’t end there. There are 999 moons to find throughout all the Kingdoms and some are rewards of challenging tasks. Some of these challenges open up after the campaign is completed but others are only available once a player reaches a certain amount of moons. This creates an incredibly addictive meta, calling for players to scour the amazing Kingdoms for these little hidden tasks.

Super Mario Odyssey is much more focused on exploration rather than running through the story. The open world layout and hidden secrets around each world truly put the gamer in charge of their own adventure. Nintendo delivered something special to gamers with Super Mario Odyssey and the gaming community couldn’t be happier. It’ll be exciting to see what comes next for the Mario franchise but one thing is for sure, the world will still be searching for those 999 moons for quite some time.

Switch Super Smash Rumor Train At Full Steam

Switch Super Smash Rumor Train At Full Steam

The most recent update Nintendo made to the Switch has a lot of people asking if this could be a sign of a new Super Smash Bros coming soon. Nintendo Switch's update finally allows players to use GameCube controllers which are widely used throughout the Super Smash Bros community. This classic controller feels like it was built for smash but until now, the Nintendo Switch went without it. However, now that Nintendo is finally ready to open up the Switch to GameCube controllers, it looks as though a new Super Smash for the Switch could be on the horizon.

Nintendo Switch Update

The latest Switch update includes USB headphone support as well as supporting GameCube controllers. There is a catch however, gamers will need the USB adapter that was released for the Wii U. This adapter added GameCube controller support for the Wii U but it only worked if people were playing Super Smash Bros. This is where the rumor mill starts heating up.

The Rumor Mill

Rumors are flying all around this latest update. From GameCube Virtual Console speculation to possible new Super Smash news, things are starting to get exciting. Wii U may have only allowed players to use GameCube controllers specifically for Super Smash Bro’s but right now, gamers on the Switch can play other games with them. Some games, like Fire Emblem Warriors,  lose certain features that are only available with the Switch’s controllers but the GameCube option is available.

Nintendo Is Committed

Announcements from the company have reassured gamers that they will be developing a version of Smash for the Nintendo Switch. However, they did state that they will not be porting any older I.P's to the Switch and instead, updating versions of the games specifically for the new console. The new Switch Super Smash could even include all the new characters from Nintendo's latest games. It would be amazing to see ARMS and Splatoon characters make the list in the next Super Smash installment. This could also help explain the wait for the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros.

Gigamax Games will be keeping a close eye on any other hints Nintendo drops about an upcoming Smash Bros for their new system. The Switch put Nintendo back on the map and Super Smash Bros has been a consistent hit for the video game company. It only makes sense they will be delivering this game to players relatively soon.

When do you think the world will get their hands on the Nintendo Switch Super Smash? Let us know in the comments!

Pokemon Sun & Moon: Gigamax Review

The Time Has Come

The Pokemon series has changed quite a bit since the launch of Red and Blue 20 years ago. Each new iteration brought with it new gameplay mechanics that changed the game ever so slightly. It is no surprise then that Sun and Moon brought a host of new changes but this time they are much more dramatic. These two new versions are an excellent adventure that manage to retain the Pokemon charm that we all know and love, while at the same time adding features that have been long sought after.

Your journey begins with the series staple, new child moving to a region that players have never seen before. This time you’re brought to Alola region, an obvious representation of Hawaii that does it’s best to charm trainers with it’s tropical feel. The game does a lot to get you in the island spirit, this is accomplished through a refreshing soundtrack, beautiful aesthetics and visuals that set a new bar for the Pokemon series. The region feels much bigger this time around and that is in part due to it being split into four islands. These islands have substantial space and contain their own collection of pocket monsters to collect. While the locale feels different than any other previous game, it is still largely the same.

Players will still find themselves running through tall grass and hopping over one-way ledges. This seems to be the trend with Sun and Moon as aspects of the game feel very different but are fundamentally the same. Battles are still turn based, rock-paper-scissors style fights with Pokemon of varying types fighting for the win. Leveling your monsters is still a satisfying grind and seeing your team evolve feels better than ever. Those are all pieces of the game that are important to the series, risks were not taken with this release and that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Big Changes

The big changes in Sun and Moon are very welcomed. Gone are the days of the “HM mule”, with Hidden Machines being entirely removed from the game. These are replaced with the ability to summon rideable pokemon that will accomplish the same tasks as these pesky moves did. The PC was changed so you don’t need to click through a complex menu system any longer. Boot up the PC and the organize screen is right in front of you. Some of the changes make the game a little too easy, such as the pokemon grooming which can remove any status effect on the fly. There also seems to be so many more NPC’s that will heal your pokemon during difficult sections.

The new collection of Pokemon looks and feels great. Around 70 new critters were added to the roster and each of them feels relatively unique. New abilities have been added to most of them and Game Freak even changed some of the beloved pokemon from the original series to fit the new region. Alolan forms of old Pokemon make what could’ve felt like laziness, into a refreshing take on something old time fans will definitely appreciate. The monsters themselves feel more alive than ever and the game offers more ways to interact with them than ever before.

Overall Sun and Moon is a fantastic entry in the Pokemon series. I would recommend this game to old trainers as well as those choosing their first starter. Game Freak has changed some key things that needed addressing but fundamentally it remains a Pokemon game. I’m looking forward to playing both the games and building way more teams than any trainer could need.
