The video game industry has gone through some interesting changes over the past few years. "Games as a service" has dominated the industry and the community is torn over how they feel about the business model. However, one undeniable benefit of this model is that the games people love continue to evolve and that seems to have gamers excited.

Brigitte Shield Charges to Overwatch on March 20th

Brigitte Shield Charges to Overwatch on March 20th

The 27th Overwatch hero, Brigitte is heading to all platforms including PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 20th. Blizzard announced this exciting news today (3/15/18) on Twitter along with an announcement post on their blog. Players that own a PC and want to try her right now, she is currently available on the Public Test Realm.

Blizzard is calling the new hero an "engineer with peerless armor constructing abilities," and she definitely shows her prowess when deployed on the battlefield. Her primary weapon is known as the Rocket Flail, which extends when used and can hit multiple heroes at the same time.

Along with Brigitte's flail, she also gets a deployable Barrier Shield, which like Reinhardt can protect allies immediately behind her. She also has the ability to throw Repair Packs to heal teammates, while her passive ability, Inspire, heals all nearby allies when she deals DPS.

Blizzard Picks Up The Pace

Brigitte was officially announced by Blizzard only a couple of weeks ago and right beforehand they revealed a lore database that will host content revealing the backstory of many of their popular heroes. To start Blizzard gave some more insight into how Torbjörn lost his arm in a tear jerking letter to his wife. With the new heroes imminent arrival, we'll be sure to show her off in action the day she becomes available to the public, so don't forget to check out our Stream Page so you know exactly when you'll have a chance to see this exciting new hero!

Brigitte Abilities

  • Rocket Flail – Brigitte's melee weapon has an extended range, enabling her to strike multiple enemies with a single swing.
  • Repair Pack – Brigitte throws a Repair Pack that can heal an ally. Any healing over that ally's maximum health provides them with armor instead.
  • Whip Shot – Brigitte throws her flail a long distance, dealing damage and knocking an enemy away from her.
  • Barrier Shield – Brigitte deploys a frontal energy barrier to absorb a limited amount of damage.
  • Shield Bash – Once her Barrier Shield is deployed, she can dash forward to stun an enemy.
  • Inspire – When she hits enemies with her flail, she also heals nearby allies over time.
  • Rally – She moves faster and provides all nearby allies with armor that lasts until it's removed by damage.

Blizzard Teases New Overwatch Hero – It Isn’t Doomfist

For Real It's Not Doomfist

Right on the heels of their Sombra release, Blizzard is already teasing a new character. In a recent forum thread game director, Jeff Kaplan confirmed that his team has "multiple characters in the works" following that up with "24 is not who you think it is." ( This seemingly confirms that the next character will not be the heavily theorized Doomfist.

Players began speculating that Doomfist may be the next hero weeks ago when Terry Crews, a huge Overwatch fan/famous actor, was spotted at the Blizzard offices. This began a long running social media campaign by fans to secure Crew's a spot to voice Doomfist. While Blizzard never gave official word on whether or not he would play the character, they've just put up a blog post which adds a new face to the lore.

Efi Oladele

Meet Efi Oladele, an 11 year old AI and Robotics expert from Numbani. She was the focal point of Blizzard's post and it is now theorized that she will be the next character to join the brawl. While it is unlikely that an 11 year old will be fighting directly on the battlefield, most think that she will send one of her robots to do the work for her. Further cementing this idea lead writer, Michael Chu also confirmed that the blog post takes place in current day Overwatch time, so we won't see an adult Efi on the field.

Blizzard Doing It Right

We hear at Gigamax are big fans of Overwatch and love that Blizzard is actively engaging the community. It's one thing to have constant updates, but another thing entirely to keep fans in the loop through the whole development process. Games that rely on fan feedback truly stand out and this could not be more true for Overwatch, especially with its recent win of another GOTY at the DICE Awards.

While Blizzard still hasn't announced who the character will be, you know that we'll be on the lookout. Make sure to keep checking back with Gigamax for all the latest in gaming news and industry updates.
