Entertainment One Producing Street Fighter TV Show

Capcom's popular fighting game series Street Fighter is about to get its own television show. The Media Company, Entertainment One, will both produce and finance the program which is being developed by the team that also created the live action internet series Street Fighter: Assassin Fist.

According to a report from Deadline, the new TV show will focus on Street Fighter's "World Warrior" storyline. The first arc includes four of the series most popular characters including Ryu, Ken, Guile, and Chun-Li.

What's It All About?

"Together, they fight to take down M. Bison, the evil mastermind who runs Shadaloo, a global criminal organization," says a line explaining the show's description. "Though on different journeys, our heroes' paths will cross as they are drawn into the World Warrior Tournament, a competition devised by M. Bison to find the most powerful and capable fighter in the world. On the journey they come to share, they must draw on their strength, skills, intelligence, and loyalty in a battle to survive and emerge as the World Warrior." (https://bit.ly/2pziiek)

Entertainment One's president, Mark Gordon, explained that part of what makes Street Fighter unique and appealing to a wide audience is its diverse set of characters. "A particular strength of Street Fighter is the wide range of ethnically diverse characters and powerful women featured in the game," he said. "It will allow us to build an inclusive and engaging TV universe." (https://bit.ly/2pziiek)

Yoshinori Ono, the producer behind the game, said Capcom arrived at Entertainment One after an extensive search to find the right partner to make the series. Ono also said that he believed Entertainment One had the right credentials to make the series a "faithful" adaptation that fans of Street Fighter would enjoy.

We Need Details!

The creator of Assassin's Fist, Joey Ansah, is returning for the new show. Series Producers Jacqueline Quella and Mark Wooding from Assassin's Fist are back as well. Currently, there's no word yet as to who will be cast in the show or even a premiere date/location.

This would not be the first multiplatform effort the series has gone through. Jean-Claude Van Damme was in the 1994 movie Street Fighter, while 2009's Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li starred Michael Clarke Duncan, Kristin Kreuk, Chris Klein, and Neal McDonough.

Fans of Street Fighter are also anticipating the soon to be released compilation package named Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, which hits store shelves in May for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Capcom Reveals New Street Fighter 5 Character

Capcom Reveals New Street Fighter 5 Character

Capcom officially revealed Menat, a brand new DLC fighter for Street Fighter 5. A trailer for the new character was unveiled during the Hong Kong Esports festival which is currently the home for the Capcom Pro Tour. Players will have the chance to get their hands on the fighter on August 29th.

Menat is a female Egyptian character that primarily uses orbs as her weapon of choice. Fans of the series are comparing her to Rose from the Street Fighter Alpha/Zero games. Much like Rose, Menat has the ability to reflect projectiles and can summon her orbs to form a barrier around her using the V-Trigger special.

Menat's Orbs Are Deadly

While Menat seems like a fairly complex character meant for advanced players, she looks deadly in the hands of veteran fighters. While using the character, players can position orbs around the field to control areas and launch them at opponents as well as call them back. The orbs make extending lengthy combos and juggling a breeze and seems like the perfect way to set up brutal attacks and manage distance.

Menat also has a few other tricks up her sleeve. For one, she can use a powerful divekick to close distance and has a few grab moves at her disposal. She also has access to a teleport in the form of a V-Reversal which means trapping her in a corner will not be an easy task. Capcom has also detailed the various costumes that will be available for the character when she launches.

Menat will cost players $6 or can be gained from the $30 expansion pass for season 2 which also includes Akuma, Kolin, Ed, and Abigail. Capcom also revealed new costumes for a variety of the characters in the game to coincide with Menat's release. Each of the new costumes will cost players $4 and will celebrate the game's 30th anniversary.

Next Street Fighter 5 DLC Character Revealed

Next Street Fighter 5 DLC Character Revealed

A new face is about to join the Street Fighter 5 cast of characters and long time fans of the series will certainly be happy with the new addition. Revealed through a brief trailer over the weekend, the popular fighter Abigail from the Final Fight series will be bashing his way into the series. This news should come as no surprise to Street Fighter fans as this is not the first time Capcom borrowed a character from their other popular fighting game collection.

Abigail The Power House

Players of the original Final Fight will remember Abigail as a power house that could take hits and dish out the damage at the cost of speed. This character was part of the Mad Gear Gang in the lore of Final Fight and fans of the game didn't encounter him until the end of the game. Previously, Capcom had introduced another of the Mad Gear powerhouses, Hugo, into Street Fighter 3: Second Impact. At the time, Hugo was quite literally the largest addition to the Street Fighter series but based on Abigails' size it seems there's a new contender for the biggest overall character.

More To Come

Abigail also comes with a collection of costumes that are all very unique. The first features the bruiser in a tank top with some very trendy tires as sweatbands. His battle costume changes his hair to red dreadlocks and replaces his tires with chains. Lastly, his story costume has him wearing a welding mask and an even bigger tire.

This will mark the fourth of six DLC characters that are set for release in Street Fighter 5's season two collection. Akuma, Kolin, and Ed were all previously released and all came with 3 separate costumes as well. Abigail is set to release on July 25th with his brand new stage Metro City Bar Area. Gigamax Games will be keeping a close eye on Street Fighter 5's season two so be sure to keep checking back for more details!
