Pokemon Go’s annual Halloween celebration is finally underway. The event not only adds various costume-wearing starter Pokemon and a Shiny Yamask, but it also includes a brand new legendary known as Darkrai. Although, fans that want their chance at catching all these new monsters will have to act fast because the event is not around for very long.
Darkrai will appear in five-star Raid Battles until the Halloween event ends on November 1st, so trainers will have until that date to add the legendary monster to their collections. Before players have the chance to catch Darkrai, they’ll have to defeat it in battle. Darkrai is one of the game’s few pure Dark-type Pokemon, which means it is weak to very few typings. Trainers’ best chance at winning this fight will be to bring along Fighting, Bug, and Fairy-type monsters such as Machamp, Heracross, Scizor, or Gardevoir.
Darkrai isn’t the only special Pokemon to make their way to the Halloween celebration. Costume wearing versions of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirrel can also be found in lower-tier Raids. Trainers can also find a Pikachu wearing a Mimikyu costume out in the wild. As mentioned before, players can stumble upon Shiny Yamask’s as well as experience an increased spawn rate of Ghost and Dark Pokemon like Gastly and Murkrow.
Niantic has more events lined up after the Halloween one ends. Once the spooky festivities end; Regirock, Regice, and Register will return to Raids until November 4th, but this time around, trainers will be able to encounter their Shiny forms. Not very long after that, Regigigas will debut in EX Raids, but fans will be able to catch it early through a Special Research story event called “A Colossal Discovery” however a virtual ticket is required to participate in the event.
Pokemon Go’s November Community Day has also been set for November 16th. This is the day after Pokemon Sword and Shield are launched on the Nintendo Switch. The featured Pokemon this time around will be Chimchar, the Fire-type starter from the Diamond and Pearl series. This will be the first time trainers can catch a Shiny Chimchar and eggs will also hatch at a quarter of the required distance.
