Destiny 2’s Masterwork Cores Getting Reworked

Bungie finally confirmed that they are solving issues many fans are having with Destiny 2. Just before the Forsaken Expansion, a patch was implemented that increased the importance of the "Masterwork Cores" resource. The company acknowledged that the system is currently flawed and reassured fans that a fix was on the way.

Masterwork Core Rework on the Horizon

Before the patch was made live, Masterwork Cores were solely used for upgrading a weapon into their Masterwork version. These weapons have increased stats and add a variety of perks to the gun, but obtaining the resource necessary to make this transformation isn't a simple task.

Now that Forsaken is out, Masterwork Cores are an essential ingredient for Destiny 2's Infusion system, which allows players to boost their Light Level by deconstructing weapons. This was initially intended to make the choice of Infusion more difficult so Guardians would have to utilize a wider variety of weapons. Now that this resource is needed in two separate but important systems, fans believe the drop rate is too low.

This was one of the talking points for Bungie's most recent blog post which acknowledged the player feedback and promised to fix it. The post detailed the two main problems: "Masterwork Cores have a misleading name. When they were created, the definition of a pinnacle item put the emphasis almost entirely on Masterworking. We expanded that definition in Forsaken, but didn't update the currency. [Also], there are not enough reliable sources to earn Masterwork Cores, which can make deciding what to spend them on too difficult." (

Masterwork Cores, destiny 2, destiny 2 update, destiny 2 updates, new games, latest games, video game news, nj gaming, gaming news, gigamax games news

Destiny 2 currently only offers a few ways to obtain Masterwork Cores: breaking down Legendary gear, purchasing them from the vendor on the Tangled Shore, or using a Consumable that causes bosses to drop them. On top of the update to cores, Bungie is modifying Exotic drop rates so that players are less likely to earn weapons or armor they've already received.

This certainly wouldn't be the first time Bungie changed a system that fans had complaints about. It's reassuring to see their open-mindedness when it comes to taking advice from fan feedback. Make sure you keep track of all Destiny 2's changes by checking back here with us here at

Local Gamers Raise Over $1,900 for a Great Cause

Gamers have the power to do wonderful things. From beating Dark Souls, to giving back to their community in a spectacular way, the video game community is growing and that means their ability to give back is expanding as well.

The Long Island video game community came together to host an event called United We Game: For Jacksonville. Its goal was to raise money for the victims of the Madden tournament shooting and it was a glowing success. MT Summit Gaming, a Long Island eSports event organizer that hosts community orientated tournaments all around the island saw this tragedy and couldn’t sit by and do nothing. So they sprang into action, contacting a host of small businesses around Long Island and asked them to contribute in their own way.

MT Summit Gaming Takes Community Seriously

All tallied up, United We Game: For Jacksonville brought in over $1,900 and donated it to EA’s Public Fund which the company set up to help those impacted by the horrific event. None of the hosts pocketed a dime of the income. Every cent of profit went directly to the charity. People offered their time, equipment, and expertise at no cost, all to raise money for individuals they’ve never met. This just highlights the comradery that can be found all throughout the video game community.

Joe Marchese-Schmitt President and CEO of MT Summit was asked: What gave you the idea to put this event together?

“It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a while. The video game community, generally speaking, can be kind of fractured and we’ve been trying to think of ways to unite people for a while. "

“[The tragedy] hit particularly close to home for us, we run events like that all the time. With everything bad happening, we had to do something about it and we couldn’t let this pass us by, we wouldn't have let ourselves live that down. We thought that if there was a chance to get people together, this was it."

"Hopefully this event today goes the extra mile, not just in raising money for the families and the people that unfortunately passed away and for the people that were injured, but the goal today is also to show the world and remind the video game community that we are one cohesive united community that will stand together when tragedy hits.”

Collaborating Long Island Small Businesses

United We Game: For Jacksonville wasn’t just an unbelievable cause, it showed that small businesses have the power to do a lot of good. When these local businesses come together and collaborate, they can have a nationwide impact. MT Summit Gaming realized that if they brought together companies that would normally be competing and offered them all a chance to do give back, something amazing would happen. That became a reality after the results of United We Game: For Jacksonville were realized.

All of the companies listed below gave their time to make sure this event met a certain standard. Every piece of equipment, all the effort, and every second spent advertising and hosting brackets for no profit proves that this community will stand together through any hurdle that presents itself.

What made you want to be a part of this?

“[MT Summit] reached out to me and it’s for a great cause. I like games and so, of course, it’s a pretty natural thing. We wanted to bring our all” Michael LaBombard, owner of Aon Gaming stated.

Long Island Retro Gaming

Why did Long Island Retro Gaming want to be involved today?

Chris aka Dbus explained, “This whole situation, you know what it is, it sucks. I wish I had better verbiage for it but I don’t. It’s unfortunate, it’s unfortunate that stuff like this keeps happening and I’m glad that all the different communities on Long Island, Long Island Retro and everybody else came together to toss this together and do something good.”

"At the end of the day, we have Tetris Grand Finals going on right now and obviously, there's going to be a winner and there’s going to be a loser. But watching people play and have a good time is what’s it about.”

What does ESPORTS LONG ISLAND do exactly, for those that might not know?

“We’ve been putting on free tournaments for the local community and Nassau and Suffolk County. I enjoy putting on events and bringing a community that would normally be at home, together and give them a platform to meet other people in the area who play the same game who they never met before.” Mike Harris said.

You said you also said you work closely with Extra Life. How does that work?

Harris continued to explain his role for the Extra Life BYC & LI Guild, “I’m the president of the Extra Life NYC & LI Guild. On a national level, Extra Life supports Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital is Cohen Children's Medical Center. My responsibility is to build a local group of ambassadors who promote Extra Life and get other people involved to fundraise for our local hospital.”

“We go to a lot of Cons and different events in the area to promote and then we also do a lot of events at the hospital with the kids.”

Waypoint Gaming

Speaking with Eric Marinaccio, COO for Waypoint Gaming, Gigamax Games asked a couple of questions to learn more about the company and their contribution.

Waypoint Gaming has only been open for about 4 months but have you done charity before?

“We haven’t done anything to this scale. We do have a lot of things planned to do other charities. We are working with Extra Life to get some stuff together." Marinaccio explained.

How did you guys get involved with this event?

He continued, “Especially for this, the Madden community holds a special place in our heart. We do have a Madden player and when it first happened, a lot of people in the community were scared because they thought he was there. I knew he wasn’t able to go but the community started going crazy trying to find him. So, we wanted to give something back. We wanted to prove that it doesn’t matter what facet of gaming you’re in, you want to work together and prove that the gaming community isn’t all these little alcoves, we’re all the same."

Has GenGAME taken part in charities like this before?

“Over the course of our charitable involvement, we’ve at least raised over $10,000 for charity. For this event, in particular, we felt this was great to kind of bring everyone together and just throw a great event and raise some good money for the folks who really need it right now,” said Trevor Magnani from GenGAME.

Extra Life

Extra Life Volunteer, Jerelyn Zontini helped the Gigamax Games crew learn more about this charitable organization and what these events mean to her.

How many of these kinds of events do you attend a year?

“Depending on the time of the year and the scope of the event, we will try to get to as many gaming events in the Long Island community. I got involved about 5 years ago. Being an event planner and community manager and seeing the surge and the excitement and the impact that eSports and gaming, to see it kind of surge and what it’s become, it’s wonderful to see here on Long Island that the community does come together for fun, for laughter for tears for competition, but that’s being a part of a community."

There is a competitive nature in gaming, there's going to be a winner. But once they're behind the screen, it's what they love to do. It's almost beyond a sense of competition at that point. Do you see that a lot? Where it's mostly comradery?

"Speaking as a volunteer for Extra Life, knowing that the proceeds of volunteering or gaming and the funds that are raised are going to the one Children's Miracle Network Hospital on Long Island, and to see these people come together and sign up and want to raise funds for this not-for-profit, they’re directly impacting, not only their love of gaming but they might not realize it, they’re impacting the hospital on Long Island whose funds are given strictly for some programs, going directly back to the hospital. [Gamers] can see the difference that their fun and their fundraising is going."

Virtual Realms

Virtual Realms brought out two stunning VR setups and invited people to play a variety of games for free, all day. There was even a Beat Saber bracket where gamers slashed their way through fire beats to take home the title as Beat Saber champion while also giving back to the gaming community. This company created a place on Long Island for gamers to experience the latest VR gaming technology, host parties and overall just have an amazing time.

Small Businesses and Local Vendors

Besides the companies that hosted brackets, free plays, and donated equipment, there were other small businesses that came to show support. They shared their art, creativity, and products with the crowd to elevate the entire experience. Take a few minutes and find out more about these talented artists, creators, and organizations.

Video Game Community is Unique and Beautiful

There is one community in particular that made this event possible and without them, United We Game: For Jacksonville wouldn’t be able to raise any money at all. Gamers, competitors, and spectators are the life-blood of video game tournaments. Long Island gamers came out in a big way, competing and cheering on their favorite gamers, and their presence supported the competition and entire cause. Without the support of all the gamers that attended, it would have been impossible to raise this money.

It was heartwarming to see and speak to the incredible people that put this event together. Sometimes, gamers forget that they are a part of a community, especially one that is becoming more powerful by the day. Competing companies and gamers put their differences aside on that day to give back to the community in an amazing way.

Valve Opens In House Steam Comment Moderation

Valve announced their plan to officially start moderating comments on individual game discussions on their popular gaming platform, Steam. Before today's development, Valve was only moderating Steam's screenshots, artwork, guides, user profiles, community groups, and user reviews.

Live look at Valve taking down toxic comments

Valve Sick of Toxic Comments

The company made the statement via a Steam blog post which read: "In the past, we've been hesitant to get involved in the moderation of individual game discussions, as we didn't want to step on the toes of game developers that want to have their own style of communication with players and their own set of guidelines for behavior. But over time, we've been hearing from more and more game developers that would actually prefer for us to take a more active role in discussion boards, at least to the extent of handling posts that are reported by other players."

This does not mean Valve will be actively scanning forums and various comment threads for comments that break their terms of service and community guidelines. The company will rely on reports from users on the platform in order to ensure all of their rules are being followed. This is to make sure developers that joke around with their community and are rude on purpose don't get taken down by an automated system. Valve will only target comments that have been reported.

Actual picture of a Steam troll

All of this news follows a year of numerous changes to Steam's policies on censorship, which have been met with backlash by users. Earlier in the year, Valve announced that everything and anything could go up on Steam as long as it wasn't illegal or a blatant attempt to troll potential buyers. It will be interesting to see how long this new system performs considering the company's nature of going back and forth on decisions, but Gigamax Games will be sure to keep every gamer updated on the latest changes and Steam updates!

Telltale Announces Majority Studio Closure

Telltale, the developer behind many successful story-based games such as The Walking Dead, Batman, and The Wolf Among us, has released a statement confirming that the studio is at least partially closing down. While the announcement doesn't include what will happen to their titles that are currently development but the studio did promise more updates in the upcoming weeks. Telltale is now run by a skeleton crew of 25 employees, but it is unclear how long they will be working for the company. You can see the full statement below:

Today Telltale Games made the difficult decision to begin a majority studio closure following a year marked by insurmountable challenges. A majority of the company's employees were dismissed earlier this morning, with a small group of 25 employees staying on to fulfill the company's obligations to its board and partners. CEO Pete Hawley issued the following statement:

"It's been an incredibly difficult year for Telltale as we worked to set the company on a new course. Unfortunately, we ran out of time trying to get there. We released some of our best content this year and received a tremendous amount of positive feedback, but ultimately, that did not translate to sales. With a heavy heart, we watch our friends leave today to spread our brand of storytelling across the games industry.

Telltale will issue further comments regarding its product portfolio in the coming weeks.

Telltale Games

Unfortunately, other than this report and some tweets from employees, details surrounding the closure are few and far between. It is always a shame to see a developer of this caliber forced to shut their doors, but in an industry that is quickly growing saturated, it is a sad consequence of having access to a massive amount of quality games. Gigamax Games will be sure to keep an eye out for more details so check back here on for all the latest.

Spider-Man PS4 Sets New Sales Record for Sony

Unsurprisingly, the recently released Spider-Man PS4 game has been pretty popular among fans of the web-slinging hero. What is surprising is that the game broke a variety of Sony sales records and set a new bar for all Triple-A titles on PlayStation 4.

A report from USA Today revealed that Spider-Man PS4 sold 3.3 million copies in only three days after the game launched. The previous record was set by God of War earlier this year when it sold 3.1 million copies in the first three days. Spider-Man was also able to break Sony's pre-order records at a whopping one million copies sold before the game even came out. All of these figures don't even take into account the sales of the PS4 Pro bundle that included a copy of Spider-Man PS4.

The game runs at the typical retail price of $60, which when added up, equates to about $198 million USD in revenue. This figure is more money than the recent Spider-Man Homecoming movie brought in at the box office. While this comparison sounds spectacular, it could be a bit off due to not every copy of the game being sold at $60 and movie tickets being considerably less expensive than a video game.

"Our expectations are always set at the highest levels," said Sony global VP of sales Stephen Turvey. "It's met and exceeded all expectations. I think the company, and the campus, and our fans are super proud of it." Turvey also stated that Insomniac Games managed to bring back Spider-Man "in a way that you want to experience it." (

It will be exciting to see how these sales figures grow along with the game as well. The question remains if gamers will commit to the DLC that will be released in the coming months. Whatever happens, you can rest assured knowing that will be watching these developments closely.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 | Blackout Impressions

The next Call of Duty, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is releasing on October 12th but fans had a chance to try the game early. There was two betas available, one for multiplayer and one for their new mode, Blackout. On September 14th, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners that pre-ordered the game got hands-on with the Battle Royale game mode and it was a pleasant surprise.

Agents of Shield?

Long-time fans of the Call of Duty series were crushed when they first heard Call of Duty Black Ops 4 wasn’t going to include a single-player campaign. Instead, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 would incorporate the popular Battle Royale game mode which they named Blackout. With the massive success of PUBG and Fortnite the developer, Treyarch, apparently saw a golden opportunity by adding Blackout.

Gigamax Games didn’t have the highest expectations for Blackout. Huge fans of PUBG and Fortnite, it was difficult to understand how Call of Duty could improve on the Battle Royale concept. However, after spending hours playing round after round, Blackout ended up becoming the most anticipated part of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 release.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 - Blackout [YouTube Stream]

The gameplay above offers an unedited look at the new game mode coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Blackout felt like a much more refined PUBG but mixed with the high-octane action expected from a Call of Duty game. It ran as well as Fortnite but with more realistic graphics, far surpassing PUBG. Treyarch was able to give gamers the gritty Battle Royale game they wanted as well as the seamless, lag-free gameplay they needed.

LFG - Blackout Teammate

The games started out like any traditional Battle Royale game when landing in a secluded area. Blackout was slow in the beginning and most of the start was spent looting buildings to find gear, but when the circle began to shrink, the chaos kicked off.  It was strange at first, strategizing with the team, meticulously choosing how to flank an enemy when an enemy was spotted. This isn’t always possible in a traditional Call of Duty multiplayer game. Yet, when the shooting started, it was instantly apparent that Blackout was still very much a Call of Duty. Fast-paced, running around, feeling like that kill was yours only to be dead after the exchange (level 3 armor is broken), this take on Battle Royale was able to stay true to the Call of Duty franchise.

Get To The Chopper!

PUBG and Fortnite both have vehicles but Blackout took this idea to an entirely new level. Gamers can find helicopters scattered across the map. They can transport troops and are a fantastic way to quickly loot entire sections of the map. At first, the Gigamax Games crew thought they were going to be a game breaker but that wasn’t the case. There are anti-air weapons included in Blackout and the pilot doesn’t have access to any kind of large caliber machine guns or missiles. Instead, they are primarily for troop transport but those riding along can still lay down fire from the open cabin. Find the right guns and a helicopter can be turned into a flying death machine but it’s a huge plus that they aren’t nearly as overpowered as expected.

Of course, no impression article of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 - Blackout would be complete without mentioning the different points on the map which are populated with zombies. Zombie Mode is a staple of Treyarch’s Call of Duty and they seamlessly incorporated these decaying creators throughout the Blackout map. Classic Call of Duty Zombie Mode maps can be found all around the area of operation and in these locations, players can find the Mystery Box which is filled with high-quality loot and even has a chance to drop the Ray Gun. However, the best way to find the nearly unstoppable Ray Gun is just by killing zombies until one drops it.

What We Want and What Comes Next

The map brought back memories with every named location being based on previous Black Ops games. The picture below shows off the multiplayer maps they incorporated into Blackout. the Call of Duty: Black Ops franchise has had so many incredible multiplayer maps throughout its history, there’s no telling how Blackout’s map will evolve over its lifetime.

call of duty: black ops 4, call of duty black ops 4, cod black ops 4, cod blackout, black ops blackout, cod black ops 4 blackout, blackout impressions, cod black ops 4 impression, video games, new video games, blackout map

After a few rounds, the entire Gigamax Games crew started imagining just how this game mode will change over time. When taking a look at PUBG and Fortnite, it is apparent that gamers can get bored playing in the same environment over and over. Both of these Battle Royale games are able to keep players interested by updating the map or adding new maps entirely. With the massive budget Treyarch and Activision have at their disposal, the possibilities could be endless. This was a primarily “want” from the Gigamax Games crew. These powerhouse companies need to continue supporting Blackout, especially in the absence of a single-player campaign in order to keep the game mode fresh, feeling new, and exciting.

The Gigamax Games crew had low hopes going into the beta but after putting hours dropping out of that helicopter and working their way across the map, expectations are high for the full release. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 - Blackout was absolutely a pleasant surprise and Treyarch did a fantastic job making it their own but at the same time staying true to Call of Duty.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Has Gone Gold

The company behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Ubisoft, formally announced in a Tweet that development of the game has officially wrapped up. The message came from the official account representing the developer and it states that Odyssey has “gone gold” which is industry slang for the end of base game development.

“We hope you’ll be enjoying playing the game as much as we did developing it and can’t wait to see which paths you’ll choose,” Ubisoft said in the message to fans.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: New Opportunites

The company was referencing the series new take on the adventure, an open world RPG instead of the action game most remember. Fans noticed this path start to take hold in Origins with the improved combat and number/color based gear, which critics praised in reviews. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey features a new dialogue system as well which allows players to choose responses in conversation much like in many other famous open world games like Mass Effect and Fallout.

Although work on the base game may be complete, the team behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is still hard at work, developing post-release patches and content. Multiple expansions are already planned for the title in both free and paid forms, and those that purchase the season pass will gain access to a remastered version of Assassin’s Creed III, the game that took players to early America and put them in the shoes of the Native American turned assassin, Connor.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey: Power of Choice Trailer

Ubisoft has already clarified that there will be no new addition to the Assassin’s Creed series in 2019, so hardcore fans will have to make the most of Odyssey and its various expansions. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey officially launches on October 5th on PS4, Xbox One, and PC so be sure to keep checking back here at for more on this highly anticipated title.

MT Summit Gaming has been hosting local eSports tournaments around Long Island since January of 2017. Each event is focused on the local community and sportsmanship, ensuring everyone feels as though they belong. Any tournament has the potential to get competitive, but MT Summit Gaming makes sure to create a friendly atmosphere. Now, MT Summit Gaming is combining forces with the entire might of the Long Island gaming community to host a tournament for an excellent cause.

Gaming for Good

The event captures the MT Summit Gaming spirit but instead of just bringing the video game community together for a fun tournament, this time, the event organizers and competitors are doing so much more. Gamers are a special breed and the tragedy in Jacksonville hit each and every one of them hard. Long Island gamers want to bring some light to this dark time in eSports history by raising money for the victims' families.

Everyone at Gigamax Games wants to thank the entire Long Island video game community for coming together to host such an important event.
