Goat Simulator Studio Launches Satisfactory Early Access

Coffee Stain Studios, the original team behind Goat Simulator and Sanctum just released Satisfactory for PC on Epic Games Store for early access. Satisfactory is a gorgeous first-person factory builder sim, with a dash of No Man’s Sky and a splash of mystery. The game has been in closed alpha since October 2018 but Coffee Stain Studios thinks Satisfactory is ready for a larger scale test. Along with the announcement of its early access release, the studio also posted a development roadmap so fans can know what to expect over the next couple months.

Satisfactory Early Access Launch Trailer

In the short two minute early access launch trailer, a massive amount of content can be seen. An expansive “handcrafted” world awaits the employees of FICSIT Inc., measuring in at 30km2 or just under 20 square miles. Players are enterprising space Pioneers tasked with charting and exploring a strange alien world. They will build and automate monstrous factories for an unknown reason. FICSIT Inc. employees are not the typical 9-5 workers. These individuals need to fight off hostile alien beasts, research new tech, automate vehicles and continue improving their area of operation.

Multiplayer, Vehicles, and Wacky Aliens!

Satisfactory early access launches with multiplayer (1-4 players), vehicles with automation capabilities, and six tiers of milestones that each unlock new machines, resources, and equipment. The game releases on early access with an impressive amount of content but the studio ensures this is only the beginning.

“Satisfactory offers immense creative freedom for players. Working with the community during the alpha and seeing their amazing and bizarre factories has been an awesome and constantly surprising experience,” said Oscar Julsen, Game Director at Coffee Stain Studios. “The game is far from perfect but we have huge plans moving forward and we’re excited to invite players to exploit this beautiful alien planet with us and shape the future of irresponsible space construction!”

Those on PC can purchase a copy today for $29.95 and the company warned that this price could increase when a full version of the game is released. Satisfactory can be found right now exclusively on the Epic Games Store.

Coffee Stain Studios is incredibly transparent about the development process and relays that they are unsure how long early access will last. They did state that the game will be in early access for at least a year but it could be longer. No word yet on when fans can expect to pick up a 1.0 version. New Tool Will Help Valve Address Steam Review Bombing

Valve has revealed that it's going to reassess user reviews on its digital game market, Steam, in order to ensure developers products are not being review bombed. In a post on the Steam blog, Valve stated that it will now "identify off-topic review bombs, and remove them from the Review Score."

Valve, steam, steam update, steam comments, video game news, gaming news, latest games, new games, gigamax games, gigamax games news, gaming news

"We define an off-topic review bomb as one where the focus of those reviews is on a topic that we consider unrelated to the likelihood that future purchasers will be happy if they buy the game, and hence not something that should be added to the Review Score," Valve continued. The company admits there's still a bit of a grey area with this definition, so it's developed a tool that "identifies any anomalous review activity on all games on Steam in as close to real-time as possible."

After the new tool finds reviews that pose a problem, it will alert Valve who then will launch their own investigation into the matter. If Valve then finds the user reviews are malicious and not real, the developer of the title will be notified that every review within the time period of the review bomb will be removed from the game's overall score on Steam. After all of this, the developer will have to go through the reviews and decide which ones will be deleted.

Steam

Unfortunately, the new tool is unable to make the distinction between a good and bad review so even the real ones will be deleted in this new process. "But as we mentioned back in our first User Review post, our data shows us that review bombs tend to be temporary distortions, so we believe the Review Score will still be accurate, and other players will still be able to find and read your review within the period," Valve wrote on the blog. Negative comments that pertain to DRM or EULA changes will be considered off-topic review bombings.

If developers don't want their game included in the new algorithm, they are able to opt out of the process when putting their game on the Steam Store. The company is also working on a number of new updates for User Reviews but those won't be revealed until a later date.

Tetris 99 Let’s Play Page

Nintendo may have released the most intense Battle Royale game and it’s called, Tetris 99. It’s available to anyone that is currently paying for Nintendo’s online service. The free download for the Nintendo Switch can be found on the eShop. Tetris 99 might just be based off everyone’s favorite retro game, but it’s so much more than your parents Tetris. In Tetris 99, players battle each other to see who will be the last one standing.

Tetris 99 – Gameplay with Gigamax Games on YouTube

The playlist above includes a complete overview of Tetris 99. This was easy to accomplish since Tetris 99 is as bare-bones as a game can be. Start a game, play Tetris until you win or lose, start a new game. A new mechanic that Tetris 99 does introduce is sending blocks to enemy players. Using the right and left stick to target one of the 98 other individuals in the Tetris 99 match, a player can interfere with their Tetris match by sending blocks after completing combos. However, everyone is fair game in a Tetris 99 game so multiple players can attack the same target as well.

4 Benefits of Mind Games in Child Development

It is every parent’s dream to be able to improve the abilities of their children and it is every child’s wish to work on only things that are fun. In this article, we cover a series of mind games and their benefits in developing the mind of a growing child.

educational gaming, edtech, k12, kids gaming, gaming for kids, video game industry, video game news, gigamax

Mind games are known for their ability to stimulate the brain and keep it active. An active mind, especially in the case of a child, has an incredible capacity for growth, development, and improvement. Most mind games focus on areas such as analytical reasoning, strategy, creativity, and memory.

The following are some of the ways mind games can contribute to development.

Improving Memory

While children are learning to recognize mundane objects such as furniture, animals or colors, they are already boosting their memory power. However, it does not do any harm to encourage this growth with fun and intriguing games.

Based on the age group, various games are available that focus on improving the child’s memory. For ages 2-4, simple matching of common groups (such as place all the fruits together). For adolescents, memory games focusing on remembering orders of lists or learning a new language with the help of an interesting storyline and fun quizzes. For older children, games such as crosswords, scrabble or word building can be encouraged to improve on vocabulary and in turn, memory. These games can be found online for free as well, making the task much simpler for the parents. Crosswords can be found on popular newspaper websites such as The Guardian or The Mirror. The Mirror Quick crossword answers can be used to work on crossword puzzles without the grids.

Encouraging Creativity

The next benefit offered by mind games is to allow a child to develop his/her creative side. While most formal education stifles a child’s creativity, games allow them to keep it active and growing. Games such as building blocks, legos, and assembly toys allow children to build in the most creative ways possible. With no restrictions placed on them, a healthy environment for budding creativity is established. Play storytelling where you encourage your child to contribute to the narrative. Doodling and puzzles are also a few other fun ways to stimulate a child’s creative juices.

For children older than 4, motivate them to take up a creative hobby such as art or music.

Building Strategy

A strategy is an important part of most games and developing this skill early on is vital. With games such as Monopoly, chess, and checkers, children can learn to strategize and plan ahead. These games not only help with strategy but also social skills as they are all group games. Outside of such board games, online strategy games for single players can also be found.  Rubik’s cube, Tetrix, and Minesweeper are fun alternatives for the same. Strategic games improve concentration, memory power and develop problem-solving skills in children, traits that go a long way in furthering an individual’s life.

Based on a study conducted to test the effects of chess training on elementary school students, it was shown that those students who had learned how to play the game performed significantly better than their non-chess playing classmates.

Analytical Reasoning

Another important trait that can be learned from early on is analytical reasoning. Encouraging children to solve puzzles, identify and fill up patterns in a series helps in improving this ability. Popular games such as Sudoku, mazes, assembly and unlock puzzles aid in this aspect. Even simple riddles held enhance this trait. Consider the following classic riddle as guidelines for the kind of puzzles to try with your child!

A man is trying to cross a river with a goat, a wolf, and a cabbage. He can only fit one of these with him in a boat at a time. Find a strategy to help the man cross the river without letting the wolf eat the goat or the goat eat the cabbage.

Keep your child interested in the riddle by drawing out scenarios and narrating the riddle as a story with ups and downs. Slowly inch them towards the right steps used to solve the puzzle without giving away the complete answers. With such a method, children are trained to think analytically as well as encouraged to persevere through challenging problems patiently. River crossing puzzles offer a wide variety of such puzzles that let you encourage your child to solve them without boring them.

While this list covers a variety of games and puzzles to try, it is far from complete. There is no right game as every child has their own interests and learning capacity. It is only through trial and error that you can find the games best suited for your child.

Creator of Left 4 Dead Announces New Zombie Survival Title Back 4 Blood

The developer behind Left 4 Dead and Evolve, Turtle Rock Studios, has announced a new zombie co-op shooter that's set to be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Back 4 Blood is said to be a premium Triple A title that utilizes the studios talent at making similar titles while also leveraging new tech to create a better experience on current gen systems.

Have Questions About Back 4 Blood?

Turtle Rock released a faqs page that has some extra details about the game. Although, it never mentions post-launch content or microtransactions, and reinforces that Back 4 Blood is a brand new IP that has nothing to do with Left 4 Dead. It also states that the game will contain a campaign and PVP, but points out that it is not a Battle Royale title.

Some information can be gathered from the way key individuals are talking about the project. The Creative Direct, Phil Robb, said the studio is adding talent to the team and is using knowledge from previous titles on Back 4 Blood. While the Design Director, Chris Ashton, explained that this project has been on the team's mind for quite some time.

"It's hard to overstate what an awesome opportunity this is," Ashton said. "We get to return to a genre that was born in our studio with over 10 years of additional experience and zombie ideas racked up in our brains. We also have some of the best teammates in the business at WBIE, who understand our development process and are equally committed to our player-first mentality. We love being able to announce, so we can start working with the community right away."

After making Left 4 Dead, Turtle Rock made Evolve which borrowed ideas from the aforementioned title but added a fifth player that took the role of a monster trying to murder their human counterparts. Recently the studio was allegedly working on a new fantasy game for Perfect World, but according to the faqs page that project has stopped development.

Borderlands 3 Could Become a Reality

Borderlands 3, is that you?

Borderlands fans have been asking for Borderlands 3 since 2012, immediately after the second game released. The open world action RPG achieved a level of entertainment value well above similar shared-world shooter games released toward the latter end of the decade. Now, 7 years after the release of Borderlands 2, Gearbox is reving up fans by teasing a possible release of Borderlands 3.

Gearbox announced their appearance at the PAX East mainstage by sharing the image below on Twitter. Look carefully at the top right of the image. “Exit 3” can be seen poking out, partially cropped out of the image. Along with the Exit 3 hint, the Tweet was sent out exactly at 3:00pm.

Gearbox will take the main theater stage at PAX East on March 28th. The studio’s event takes place on the first day of PAX East so fans won’t have to wait long to see if Gearbox is ready to drop Borderlands 3. A description accompanied the Gearbox event which reads, “This is your opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at Gearbox Software and Gearbox Publishing, along with the latest news and updates from the makers of Borderlands, Battleborn, Brothers in Arms, and more! We will have never-before-seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises, so don’t miss out!”

As mentioned at the beginning of this article, Borderlands was massively successful at creating a cooperative first-person shooter that puts major titles like Destiny, Fallout 76, and most recently Anthem to shame. Gearbox was able to create a single-player world that transitions to cooperative play seamlessly. It has a massive amount of content and most importantly, released as a complete game. However, Borderlands 2 did release in 2012, well before this new “Games as a Service” model was first introduced. If Gearbox does announce Borderlands 3 and they stay true to what their fans know and love, it will have a massive chance at overshaddowing Anthem or the upcoming shared-world-shooter, The Division 2.

It’s not confirmed Borderlands 3 is the announcement Gearbox Software has planned for their main stage presentation at PAX East 2019. Even with the multiple references to “3”, Gearbox is infamous for trolling fans, but in a good way. For all the gamers that want to get their hands on Borderlands 3, it would be a crushing blow to watch Gearbox come and go from that main theater without official word on the third Borderlands.

Be sure to check back with GigamaxGames.com on March 28th after Gearbox takes to the PAX East stage for even more updates.

Fans are only a few days out from getting their hands on The Division 2, Ubisoft's latest shared world shooter. As detailed on Ubisoft's support website, they are releasing a patch that will fix a variety of bugs and make other improvements to the game. Players on Xbox and PC will need to have 48-52 GB (depending on region and language choice) of free space while, PS4 players will need between 88-92 GB.

Ubisoft will also be launching their Title Update 1.5 starting March 11th. Thankfully, this patch will not be as taxing, weighing in at around 2 GB depending on region and language. This patch is intended to fix issues surrounding audio cutting out that some experienced during the beta.

The Division 2

Just like the first Division, Ubisoft is set to support The Division 2 with a variety of post launch updates. The developer recently revealed their plan for the game's first year, which included two new episodes releasing in the summer and fall respectively with one more planned for the winter. Ubisoft also has a Year One Pass for those interested that gives early access to new cosmetics and perks.

Video Leaks Battlefield V’s Battle Royale Mode

Firestorm, the battle royale mode that's coming to Battlefield V, has leaked before its official release this month. The leak comes in the form of the mode's tutorial video, which recently appeared in multiple places online.

Battlefield V Firestorm Get's Leaked

As fans will be able to see in the video, the mode contains a solo, duo, and squad mode. Players drop into the map from above then compete to find weapons and items littered around the map and fight until there's one person left standing. Firestorm will also have three tiers of weapons: common, rare, and epic.

The new mode will also allow for downed players to fire their sidearm while they are waiting for players to pick them back up. Unlike the recently released Apex Legends, players will not be able to truly resurrect their squad members.

Firestorm's development was not handled by the main Battlefield V team but instead by an EA owned studio named Criterion. The mode will contain a total of 64 players fighting to win with not only Battlefield V's guns, but vehicles like tanks and other troop transports.

EA responded to the leak with a cryptic tweet that seems to confirm its validity. The tweet reads "*Checks Reddit* More to come" then contains a video of a ring of fire closing in on a squad of soldiers. It seems like DICE is preparing to reveal more on Firestorm very soon. ARK: Survival Evolved Homestead Update and Kibble Improved

Studio Wildcard, the publisher and developer behind ARK: Survival Evolved released the Homestead update yesterday (3/5/2019). The free update is available on Steam PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4.

Homestead will improve existing structures and add new customizable building pieces along with more placement options. As well as the building improvements, the Kibble system has been updated to make creature taming simpler.

Official ARK Homestead Trailer

The press release published by Studio Wildcard stated all the builds featured in the video above were made by real players.

Surviving can be a chore in this dinosaur ridden, action-adventure game. Once a player secures their footing in this tretorious world, it’s time to start laying claim to large swatches of land and building a home to rise above the dangers that lurk around every corner. Homestead gives gamers the ability to create even more impressive dwellings than ever before. This was made possible thanks, in part, to Structures Plus (S+), a player created Sponsored Mod by Orionsun.

A public beta for Homestead was conducted by Studio Wildcard. The update pulled major elements from S+ and the beta was to test that all the features worked when incorporated into the full game.

Kibble Me Timbers

Kibble was the second focus of the Homestead update. Every tameable creature in the ARK universe now falls into one of six different categories. A creatures egg can be used to tame any creature that falls within the category of the creature that laid the egg. This is a massive improvement / simplification of the old kibble system. Before Homestead, there were over 50 different kibbles that all required a specific egg. The six categories of kibble introduced in Homestead include: Basic, Simple, Regular, Superior, Exception, and Extraordinary Kibbles. These six kibble categories will now be all a survivor or their tribe needs to tame any beast they come across.

ARK:Survival Evolved continues to expand and progress. Quality of life updates, new lands to explore, and an ever-growing community of survives keeps gamers coming back. The world isn’t forgiving but it is addicting. Progressing alone or with a tribe is both stressful and satisfying. Watching a base build and expand or seeing a massive army of dinosaurs after pouring hard-earned hours into collecting materials and taming animals is nothing less than fulfilling.
