This isn’t the only game Square Enix will be pushing back. Marvel’s Avengers will also be delayed. Marvel’s Avengers is now releasing closer to Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most highly anticipated games of 2020 and is poised to take a chunk out of Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers opening day revenue since it’s release has been pushed back. However, it can be argued that the only game with more hype than Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t Marvel’s Avengers, it’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
Square Enix is well aware that pushing back Final Fantasy 7 Remake is going to annoy some fans. A majority of the gaming community is fine with a developer pushing back the release of such a culturally important game if it’s to maintain quality. Inevitably, people will no doubt still complain. Yoshinori Kitase, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Producer released a statement pandering to those noisy few, “I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer.”
Kitase wanted to make sure fans understood why Final Fantasy 7 Remake is being delayed, “We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience.”
Final Fantasy fans are having a harder time accepting this news after the recent leaks. The full demo game screen, images, the reveal of Red 13, and Square Enix’s official reveal of Sephiroth and Aerith in combat were all served up adding coal to the hype train. Ideally, this will be the only delay of Final Fantasy 7 Remake in 2020.
