Bethesda isn’t holding back on new game announcements at this year’s QuakeCon 2018. On top of breaking the news about the next title in their DOOM franchise, DOOM Eternal, the company had a ton of new reveals for their other FPS, Rage 2. Fans can expect to see this title hit PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019. Unfortunately, the developer’s love for the Nintendo Switch will not be extended to Rage 2 like it has been for DOOM Eternal.
Fans of the original Rage will certainly be pleased with the gameplay demo Bethesda revealed during the Keynote. The new game keeps up the high paced action the series is known for with plenty of explosions, fast cars, guns, and murder to keep players entertained. The video points out a number of story details like who your character is and why they’re going out of their way to kill off an entity simply called “The Authority”. Another detail made clear during the demo was that Rage 2 is set 30 years after the first game.
Players will be surprised to see that the desert world from Rage has been replaced by a newly budding planet with pockets of flora and fauna spread across the sprawling landscape. Thankfully, traversing this beautiful open world will be a breeze thanks to the lack of any loading screens and the multitude of vehicles to drive and fight in.
Enemies are broken up into actions in Rage 2 and the video showed off the different ways enemies will engage with the protagonist throughout their mission. The first group of marauders the demo featured was the Goon Squad, which use ultra-violent and aggressive tactics that will surely keep players on the move. Bethesda then showed off The Shrouded, another group of bandits that managed to get their hands on some fancy military grade technology.
