Injustice 2 | Gigamax Review

Injustice 2 is a unique fighting game with familiar controls that manages to mix three popular video game tropes successfully. NetherRealm studios, the developers behind the Mortal Kombat series, have taken the Injustice series to new heights in this latest entry and with 9 DLC fighters on the way, the package will only get better. A robust and fluid fighting game with an intriguing story and a sprinkle of RPG elements equals an amazing experience for fans of fighting games and the DC Universe.

Heroes and Villains Save The World

This time around the story steps back from the dark nature of the last one. Instead Injustice 2 follows the stereotypical heroes joining villains to stop a greater threat. This is not necessarily a bad thing, it just means the story doesn’t reach the emotional levels of the first game. It also gives the player plenty of opportunity to experiment different fighting styles with both the heroes and villains of DC’s Universe. The campaign is written like a DC love letter filled with awesome fight sequences, creative dialogue and more action than a Bruce Willis movie.

Injustice 2 makes the player feel just as powerful as the diverse range of super powered fighters. Whether choosing a god like Swamp Thing or a petty thief like Catwoman, the game makes sure every fighter feels unique and fun to use. Fights are fast and landing a successful combo is as satisfying as ever. The dynamic environments also feel better and faster when compared to the previous entry. NetherRealm also increased the walking speed of all the characters so there is not as much downtime during the fights. They have also increased the amount of opportunities a player has to break out of potentially round ending combos, making fights more fair and chaotic.

Loot Everywhere

One of the most interesting new additions to Injustice 2 is the loot system that is sure to drag in RPG fans. After each fight, players are given a couple of items that at first will be relatively useless. Investing some time in the game will net fighters some great gear that will even change the overall appearance of each  warrior. Unique costumes for some characters also make an appearance that not only change appearance, but swap the voice acting as well. For example, Green Lantern has a unique costume that turns him into the Jon Stewart iteration which many 90’s kids will remember from the Justice League cartoon.

Unfortunately, players will not be able to play cooperatively but team guilds are available to join. Once a fighter is in a guild they’ll earn specific guild based experience that offers a chance at unique loot. Players can also score loot by spending real world money on source crystals. As of now the only thing tied to the currency are shaders but it will eventually be used for more premier skins.

Overall Impression

Injustice 2 is a fantastic fighter that manages to engage players in fast, fun, fluid combat all while paying homage to some of DC’s most iconic heroes and villains. Fighting friends feels great and getting loot for fighting your friends feels even better. As of now, the only issue with online is a little lag during fights but it certainly wasn’t game breaking. If you’re a fan of comic books or fighting games we definitely recommend picking up Injustice 2.

Injustice 2 – New Story Trailer and Info! with GIGAMAX

Injustice 2 Coming 2017

NetherRealm Studios just released another incredible story trailer for Injustice 2 and we’re excited. A tormented Superman, Robin makes an appearance and Brainiac shows up. So many juicy bits of information were teased in the short, 3 minute trailer. The first Injustice offered hours of excitement as the innovative fighting game delivered some impressive mechanics and environments. Let’s see what’s in store for the next leg in the series.

Some of the characters that were shown in the new trailer confirm rumors that had been floating around about the hero roster. It seems as though Brainiac's appearance at the end of the trailer suggests that this villain will be the focal point of the action. A once again distressed Superman makes his debut in the trailer and it seems as though he will be playing an important role as the story unfolds. Supergirl also shows up, but she is definitely not feeling like herself. Potentially brain-washed, she looks ready to kill anyone who stands in her way.

Official Word From

When looking at the official Injustice Website, a few more bits of information become available. Players have the choice between three different game versions; Standard, Digital Deluxe Edition and Ultimate Edition. The Digital Deluxe edition includes 3 DLC fighters, one Premier skin and one exclusive gear shader pack. No word yet on which 3 DLC fighters the Digital Deluxe edition will include but the skin offered is for Supergirl. The Ultimate Edition offers some incredible content right out of the gate. 9 DLC fighters, 3 premier skins for the Flash, Green Lantern and Supergirl and 2 exclusive gear shader packs are all included with the $99.99 dollar Ultimate Edition.

NetherRealm Studios did confirm some other characters and these include; Aquaman, Atrocitus, Batman, Blue Beetle, Deadshot, Darkseid, The Flash, Gorilla Grodd, Harley Quinn, Supergirl, Superman, Wonder Woman and Robin. Rumors are floating around that Poison Ivy will also join the party, but those cannot be confirmed at this time.

ARMS: A Look at Nintendo’s New IP with GIGAMAX

Boy Are My ARMS Tired

One of the most exciting bits of information from Nintendo’s Treehouse Live showing of the Switch was a new IP named ARMS. The old time developer is still managing to innovate with this unique fighting game that looks like a cross between “Punch-Out” and “Rock-Em Sock-Em Robots”. Many were skeptical at the beginning of the trailer. By the end were excited about its potential and judging by the gameplay demos, this game is shaping up to be a hit at launch.

ARMS fighter

When first seeing this game in action, the first thought that pops up is “Wii Boxing”. Upon further investigation, it goes much deeper than a party boxing game. Using the Joy-Con motion sensing controllers, players will throw gloved punches at competitors in this 3rd person arena fighting game. After just two matches of this adrenaline fueled game it starts to show its truly competitive colors. The first match is spent learning the basics punching, blocking and movement. However, during the second match the meta starts to open u. Finding unique character counters; parrying and timing grapples all become part of this deceptively tough experience.

Of course the core of the game is just plain old punching, but player’s ARMS are able to shoot ten feet in front of them. If necessary, the character can also add a curve to get around blocks. Every single punch is able to be blocked, if a block is timed right the opponent’s arm can be knocked to the ground and left useless for a short amount of time. Blocking is not a surefire method for success though, every block can be broken by a well timed grapple. These moves are performed by moving both the Joy-Con controllers forward at the same time, miss this though and the player is open for a rapid fire assault.

The Core Mechanics

The five characters shown offer a look at the further complexity of the game. They range from your basic light, medium and heavy classes but each has the choice of three different weapons. These weapons can be different on each fist, giving every fighter a multitude of options. They also each have a unique ability for example Ninjara. The ninja themed fighter uses a dash to disappear and reappear in short distances.

With accurate motion controls and very interesting mechanics ARMS has the ability to be the next big competitive fighting game. The demo was an interesting look at this unique experience but as of now, more content is necessary for this game to truly fit the $60 price point. With Nintendo’s recent interest in listening to the community, we are sure that this game will offer plenty of excitement and make the Switch even more worth the money. Hopefully this game doesn’t turn into another gimmick, but as of now it is shaping up to be quite the opposite.
