MT Summit: College Pro Tour Competitor Interviews

MT Summit: College Pro Tour Competitor Interviews

Gamers of all kinds came together at the Cradle of Aviation in Long Island, New York to celebrate the College Pro Tour, hosted by Mid Tier Summit Gaming. Five tournaments, Tekken 7, Super Smash Bros 4, Street Fighter V, Super Smash Bros Melee, and Dragon Ball FigherZ, were taking place throughout the day and the action was non-stop. Gigamax Games was on location, speaking with competitors and the MT Summit crew to see what these tournaments mean to the gaming community and the individuals that put it all together.

MT Summit

The first thing that becomes absolutely clear when walking around to the different tournament stations is that these competitors are extremely supportive of one another. No judgments and incredibly accepting, MT Summit Gaming did an amazing job creating an environment where gamers of all skill levels can thrive.

“It’s incredible actually,” said Vinny, who was competing in the Super Smash Bros 4 tournament. He went on to explain, “It feels like there’s a lot at stake even though it’s a smaller tournament.”

Big Prizes and Support

Gamers from all over the island couldn’t wait for their chance to get a piece of the over $1000 in prize support, including a brand new Nintendo Switch. With such an amazing first prize, there was actually a lot at stake. However, even with the massive prize pool, the competition floor was still anything but cutthroat. Toxicity that is so often associated with the gaming community was nowhere to be found. A friendly atmosphere and gamers building other gamers up was the common theme of the event.

When speaking to SoulArts, the second place winner of the Super Smash Bros tournament, he stated, “The community has a lot of intertwined bonds” and after this weekend, that is evident.

Even with all the good vibes throughout the tournament, people were still there to compete and have a good time.

Whan (Chibi Whan), who was competing in the Street Fighter V tournament is new to the competitive scene and was excited to find out about MT Summits latest event. “I’ve been waiting for a Street Fighter V tournament for like, ever.” He goes on to say, “[I’m] trying to get a little more competitive with this kind of thing – I know more than I did a couple months ago, but I still have a way to go.” It’s great to see those new to the competitive gaming scene get involved and with the atmosphere MT Summit created, it’s a perfect first step into eSports as a whole.

Gamers From Every Skill Level

Another gamer Gigamax Games had a chance to meet was Synchronaizah. It was his first time at an MT Summit tournament and he seemed excited. “I’m ready for it,” he said. After hearing about how close MT Summits College Pro Tour was to his house, it was clear he wanted to get involved, “I should just go and do this.”

Not only where there new faces, Gigs, and Mack met up with some people that attended previous MT Summit tournaments. The crew first met Tony (SolidTony), formally from Crossfire gaming, at one of MT Summits first events last year. He’s a bit of a veteran of the competitive gaming scene. “About when Smash 4 came out, I played it religiously and I’ve traveled, I went through a lot of tournaments.” It was incredible having the chance to get some perspective from a seasoned gamer. Tony continued, “We used to run our own events [on Long Island] and we kinda just stopped and real life happened. I took a pretty big hiatus with competing. I love gaming, I love competing.”

The tournament spanned all day. Gigs and Mack made so many new friends and learned so much about the Long Island gaming community. There were contributors selling incredible handmade and 3D printed gaming gear and there was always a place open for a free play with some great people. One of those new faces the Gigamax crew had the chance to meet was RickyG, the winner of the Super Smash Bros 4 tournament.

Winners Share Amazing Advice

RickyG left the MT Summit tournament with a brand new Nintendo Switch and even though his tournament ended halfway through the event, he stuck around all the way until the end. Catching up with RickyG after his big win, we found out a little bit about this talented gamer. “I only just kinda sorta started getting back into [the competitive scene]”. He definitely knew the Long Island Smash scene well, “At one point I would say I was one of the best players on Long Island but nowadays you have a lot of great players. There is some really rising talent. There’s a deep bond within the community. What brought me back is that I made a lot of friends in the scene.” Ricky also had some amazing advice for any future or currently competing gamers, “Don’t be afraid to talk to gamers at a higher level than you.”

Mike (Face), owner of Aion Gaming and Super Smash Bros Melee competitor who took home first place had another bit of important information for any gamer, “You can’t control how good your opponent is at all, spending any time on that is fruitless.” He went on to explain how focusing on practicing and improving yourself is the only thing that a person can do to keep getting better.

There were so many gamers attending that are working hard every day trying to find their own space within the massive industry. Trevor, a Stream Technician from GenGaming and Aion Gaming, shared a few words of wisdom for anyone trying to get involved in the gaming industry. “There are so many ways you can get into [the gaming industry]. When you think about eSports and regular sports, there’s a lot of common allies.” He explained, “You can write, you can podcast, you can live stream, you can run tournaments like the guys at Mid Tier Summit are doing and what we’re doing over at Aion gaming, you can be a stream technician.”

Looking Forward

Not only was the College Pro Tour an exciting tournament, it was an amazing overall experience. Getting a chance to meet like-minded gamers, all from diverse backgrounds and at different stages in their competitive gaming journey was inspirational. It was fantastic to see top-tier gamers were giving advice to the newer competitors. MT Summit Gaming and the tournaments they host are the embodiment of what the Gigamax crew believes in, gamers can build each other up and thrive together.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Playlist

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Playlist

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is an interesting creation for the Final Fantasy franchise. Characters from every single Final Fantasy game will fight for their lives in spectacular battles, an experience worth trying. It was amazing having a chance to see the characters from the beginning of the series with much more detail their 8-bit sprite forms.

The battles are flashy and exciting but it’ll take some time to uncover all the intricacies Dissidia Final Fantasy NT seems to be hiding. With so many different numbers, stats, and indicators, the game looks like there is plenty of meta and different layers to the combat. However, it doesn’t seem as though this fighter is going to be incredibly competitive. Instead, the developers are working to create a fun fighter for Final Fantasy fans.

It’s been 5 years since the release of the last Marvel vs. Capcom game and finally, Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite is here. Surrounded by controversy, this Marvel vs. Capcom game has confused many gamers. X-Men aren’t included and the character models have been making headlines because of their odd appearances. Even with these issues, the game still delivers as an exciting fighting game.

The mixed reactions about the quality of the game still don’t outshine the fact that Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite is still a great fighter and welcomed addition to the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise.

Absolver Is Almost Here: What To Expect

Absolver Is Almost Here: What To Expect

Fighting games and more fighting games, they’ve been on a roll. From For Honor to Injustice then around to Tekken 7, the industry continues to embrace this classic format.  Sloclap, the developer of the new title Absolver wanted to do something a bit different. Absolver is a break from the norm and it looks as though there will be plenty of content to enjoy. Things have been relatively quiet in regard to media coverage but it’s quickly picking up as the release date approaches.

Sloclap and Insight

Sloclap is a new studio made up of former Ubisoft Paris developers. Absolver will be their first title and they’re already making waves with their “online combat RPG”.  sloclap, absolver, latest games, gigamax, gigamax games

“We think the world would be a much better place if there were no guns,” creative lead Pierre de Margerie.  He continues, “Then we could finally focus on important things, like sword fighting and how to kill a man with one punch.” http://bit.ly/2ryPeWG

What’s Different?

Players will have the option of choosing between three different classes or ‘styles’. The first is the Forsaken style which has a concentration on parrying. The Kahlt Method’s special ability allows them to absorb damage. Finally, Windfall style is a master in avoiding attacks. Each one of the three different styles uses their special ability to set up special combinations to destroy their enemy.

Though these are the three main styles, according to the trailer there are others to be found as players advance through the game. Beyond just being able to choose different styles, there is even more customization in regard to specific moves for each variation.

sloclap, absolver, latest games, gigamax, gigamax games

It may seem like just another fighting game but Absolver does something a little bit different that could mean big things for the genre as a whole. Dubbed a multiplayer combat RPG, players can group up to fight their way through dungeons. This could add an interesting element to the game, making it more than just another fighter.

Expected to drop on PS4 and PC on August 29th, it won’t be long until gamers get their hands on this unique fighter. The first time the world got a hint of Absolver was E3 last year and people have been patiently waiting to see what this game has to offer. With little coverage, the trailer gives a decent look at the different combat styles and mechanics.

Come take a step into the world of Absolver and learn about the Prospects journey as they hone their combat skills.

Big News, Stay Tuned!

Gigamax Games was lucky enough to be put on the watch list for a review copy of Absolver. We have our fingers crossed and hope that we’re able to offer a preview into how the game actually plays. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this anticipated fighter and will report back with any updates or insight into Sloclaps new release.

Fighting games have always have a special place in the gaming communities heart. They continue to perform well and the new powerful consoles allow these developers to add in even more exciting content. Be sure to check back on GigamaxGames.com to keep updated on any new information, the review and Absolver gameplay.

Injustice 2 – New Story Trailer and Info! with GIGAMAX

Injustice 2 Coming 2017

NetherRealm Studios just released another incredible story trailer for Injustice 2 and we’re excited. A tormented Superman, Robin makes an appearance and Brainiac shows up. So many juicy bits of information were teased in the short, 3 minute trailer. The first Injustice offered hours of excitement as the innovative fighting game delivered some impressive mechanics and environments. Let’s see what’s in store for the next leg in the series.

Some of the characters that were shown in the new trailer confirm rumors that had been floating around about the hero roster. It seems as though Brainiac’s appearance at the end of the trailer suggests that this villain will be the focal point of the action. A once again distressed Superman makes his debut in the trailer and it seems as though he will be playing an important role as the story unfolds. Supergirl also shows up, but she is definitely not feeling like herself. Potentially brain-washed, she looks ready to kill anyone who stands in her way.

Official Word From Injustice.com

When looking at the official Injustice Website, a few more bits of information become available. Players have the choice between three different game versions; Standard, Digital Deluxe Edition and Ultimate Edition. The Digital Deluxe edition includes 3 DLC fighters, one Premier skin and one exclusive gear shader pack. No word yet on which 3 DLC fighters the Digital Deluxe edition will include but the skin offered is for Supergirl. The Ultimate Edition offers some incredible content right out of the gate. 9 DLC fighters, 3 premier skins for the Flash, Green Lantern and Supergirl and 2 exclusive gear shader packs are all included with the $99.99 dollar Ultimate Edition.

NetherRealm Studios did confirm some other characters and these include; Aquaman, Atrocitus, Batman, Blue Beetle, Deadshot, Darkseid, The Flash, Gorilla Grodd, Harley Quinn, Supergirl, Superman, Wonder Woman and Robin. Rumors are floating around that Poison Ivy will also join the party, but those cannot be confirmed at this time.

With all the fun that the first Injustice brought, it’s exciting to think about what they plan to do with Injustice 2. The first game offered some truly unique mechanics and environments. Hopefully the hype train doesn’t start gaining too much momentum before more details become clear. As more information becomes available, be sure to check back at Gigamax Games for the latest developments surrounding Injustice 2!
