Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Health Announced

Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Health Announced

Major changes are coming to the foundation of Rainbow Six Siege. In a recent blog post published by Ubisoft, they detailed their plan to fix some of the biggest issues fans have had with the game.  These changes will all take place over the next three months and will have an impact on the basic structure of the game under the codename 'Operation Health'.

Operation Health

The new updates will focus heavily on technical improvements and bug fixes as they come out over the course of three stages. Operation Health updates will be released first on a public test server. After these changes have been properly reviewed on PC, they will make their way to console. Unfortunately because of these changes Ubisoft decided to cancel the upcoming Poland DLC. The Hong Kong update is also being pushed back to Season 3 in August and November's Season 4 will feature South Korea. While Poland may no longer be a part of Year 2, it's GROM operators will still be released between Season 3 and Season 4. The number of new maps has also been reduced to three and that includes the recent map set in Spain.

Operation Health

Ubisoft wants to keep their promise to fans and keep the community informed on what's coming out and when. They also wanted to let players know that they can aid in this process by testing the updates on the public test server. Ubisoft plans on discussing the upcoming changes at Rainbow Six Pro League, so interested fans can get a more detailed look at the season, this will take place on May 21st. To see a full Q&A that goes over why Ubisoft decided to make this decision check out the full blog post here.

Blizzard Opens New Overwatch eSports Division

Blizzard Opens New Overwatch eSports Division

Blizzard Entertainment Inc. recently announced the formation of a new division which will oversee Overwatch’s esports efforts. This will be a separate entity from Blizzard's current Esports division and will use the Major League Gaming name and all of the organization's assets which the company acquired in 2015 for $46 million. Blizzard made a statement back in November of 2016 that it planned to launch an Overwatch league with hopes of building the “world’s premier esports league.”

esports, activision, blizzard, mlg, new division

The new division will oversee management, operation, sales and distribution for all Overwatch’s esports programs which include the upcomingOverwatch World Cup and Overwatch League. The Overwatch World Cup finals will take place at BlizzCon 2017. It will be interesting to see how the finals go as Blizzard has complete control over every facet of their hit titles’ championship event.

What's The Official Word?

MLG, esports, blizzard, overwatch, activision

“The new division which will retain the MLG name, will build on Blizzard’s nearly 20-year history as a leader in esports and leverage MLG’s extensive experience with live events and content distribution," Blizzards press release read. “It will also operate the MLG-branded media network, which will broadcast both Blizzard and Activision esports content as well as other premium gaming programming.”

Blizzard thinks Overwatch is the next big thing and it’s beginning to look as if they’re absolutely right. However, the organization isn’t putting all their eggs in one basket. Their other games will continue to be run by Blizzard's original team for games like, StarCraft II, Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, and World of Warcraft, leveraging the MLG division’s sales, media production and distribution capabilities along the way.

Nowhere To Go But Up

Esports continues to become more popular, gaining international attention and expanding every year. Blizzard is an economic powerhouse and it’ll be exciting to see how far Overwatch can go in the esports world with a dedicated division focused on the development and expansion of Overwatch’s competitive presence. However, Blizzard's new division could just be a way for the company to keep tabs on the quality control of all Overwatch tournaments, media and advertising. Only time will tell how or if this new move will impact  MLG’s future. Be sure to check back on Gigamax soon for the latest gaming industry developments.

Assassin’s Creed Creator Explains Why He Left Ubisoft

Assassin's Creed - The Story Beneath The Surface

The creator of the popular action series, Assassin's Creed, revealed some of the reasons behind his exit from Ubisoft amid a lawsuit in 2013.

In an interview with Gameology, Patrice Desilets gave some of the reasons behind the leave from Ubisoft and why he struggled working for a large gaming company. One of the biggest reasons he detailed was the political lying that had to be done.

ubisoft, assassins creed, new games, new developer, 1666

"My biggest struggle with being in an organization is that I was the guy at the end or in the middle also… I was the guy doing interviews like what we're doing right now and I had to come up with political lying and I would receive comments and decisions made by other people and not me because it's all about compromising when you're in a big organization somehow," he said. "And as my role, the creative director, it's tough to live by the decisions of others when being in front of the camera or Skype and I said I'm not a really good liar so I can't do it anymore. And then I also realized that when you do a really big franchise, you also make money for other people and they don't really care about you (Laugh). So I said, enough! If I do another Assassin's Creed at least it would be for me and my guys and also for Quebec and for my people in Montreal." (

New Beginnings

Desilets explained that ultimately it was an extremely tough decision to make but him and his girlfriend agreed it was for the best. Now he heads a studio named, Panache. The small team is now at 24 employees and will ideally grow to about 30 by the time development is in full swing. Comparatively his team at Ubisoft was over 800 people strong.

The developer explained that his studio will make the mysterious game 1666: Amsterdam. The only information revealed about the game was that it deals with the bad side inside all of us and how every individual copes with that differently.

Much more was discussed in the interview, anyone interested in the gaming industry should definitely check it out here. It offers great insight into the politics behind Triple A games that many don't realize exists. It is easy to forget that the immense amount of people and work that are behind these spectacular games. The very talented Patrice Desilets is sure to be very successful at his new studio and Gigamax will be sure to have coverage of Panache's work. Be sure to keep checking back with for all the latest in gaming news!
