5 Best Sega Dreamcast Games Of All-Time

Sega Dreamcast was ahead of its time, changing gaming into something better. It was launched 16 months before Sony PlayStation II and 3 years before Xbox. Sadly, this console failed to reach its full potential and was forgotten by most players. However, some still adore its games and they can play them on PC, using emulators and ROMS from Gamulator. We found 5 games in particular that are truly stunning, even today.

1. Crazy Taxi

Millions adored this game in arcades back in 1999. It was ported to Sega Dreamcast in 2000 and many gamers switched over to this platform. In the game, you will drive a taxi. Your mission is to make money while transporting passengers to specific destinations across the map. The map was similar for arcade and Dreamcast devices, but the one for Sega was much bigger.

Players were able to reach bonuses by performing stunts while driving, barreling through across all kinds of terrain, enjoying its fast-paced gameplay. There was also a timed option to increase the game’s difficulty.

2. Soulcalibur

Soulcalibur is considered to be one of the best fighting games of all times, not just one of the best for Sega Dreamcast. Players used all kinds of weapons and complicated moves to defeat their opponents and were able to play the game in mission, time attack and survival modes. The game also offers new 3D techniques which were ahead of the time.

3. Rez

Rez is one of the best games due to strange gameplay which was and still is one of a kind. In the game you are in the shoes of a hacker who travels across a super network, destroying viruses and malware. But, the best part is the music. As soon as you destroy a virus, the music will change and you can get all kinds of notes while destroying your opponents. This isn’t all.

The main objective in the game is to defeat all opponents and prevent Eden, artificial intelligence from taking control of the network. The game is a unique combination of shooting and music.

4. Sonic Adventure

The game is so popular that we don’t have even to explain it. In this sequel, you were able to play in Hero or Dark story mode and switch between them at any given moment. The graphics were also significantly better than most players could have imagined.

5. Resident Evil: Code Veronica

This is the 4th sequel of the game and it’s focused on Claire Redfield who is looking for her brother, Chris.  Gamers enjoyed the 3D world and the superior story. In addition, the camera was able to track the main character much better than ever before which was one of the biggest advantages of the game.

Gamers also loved the transition between the scenes which saw significant improvement when compared to the previous sequels. For most fans, this is the ultimate sequel and one of the best of all times.

Netflix Teases Appearances at E3 2019

On May 13th Netflix’s Sci-Fi account, @NXonNetflix, posted a Tweet asking E3 for an invitation to the world-renowned gaming conference this year. After being asked what the panel will be called, Netflix responded with “Bringing Your Favorite Shows to Life: Developing Netflix Originals into Video Games”. It’s not yet clear which titles Netflix has plans of adapting into video games but they did ensure there will be more than just the Strangers Things game expected to release alongside Season 3.

Netflix Comes to E3 2019

Shortly after this exchange between E3 and Netflix, Geoff Keighley made the official announcement on his Twitter. Not only did this add fuel to the rumor fire, but it also gave both Netflix fans and the video game community even more reason to anticipate the event beginning on June 11th. Find the full post, below.

Netflix Enters the E3 Coliseum

Netflix will be taking to the E3 Coliseum, the main stage presentation located at LA Live, next to the LA Convention Center. It will be hosted by Geoff Keighley and is a part of ESA and E3’s attempt to bring E3 closer to the public. Netflix is a perfect partner to be involved in the ESA and E3 initiative. Netflix provides entertainment to millions around the world and their appearance at the E3 Coliseum is expected to be just another way of reaching millions more.

netflix, e3 2019, netflix e3, netflix e3 2019. netflix video games, netflix gaming, video game news, video game industry

Even though it will be the first appearance for Netflix at E3, this is not their first time creating a video game. They have two unique approaches to making games. The first is a narrative-driven experience like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the second is games for consoles and mobile devices like the Stranger Things games. Knowing Netflix dabbled in both mediums, their E3 2019 appearance can go in a variety of different directions.

Whatever Netflix has planned for the Coliseum, the community will be listening intently. Netflix upended the way people consume movies and television. However, the question remains what they truly have planned for the video game industry in the future.

More news on Netflix’s E3 2019 performance is expected to leak out closer to the event itself. Be sure to stop by GigamaxGames.com leading up to E3 and throughout the event to keep up with all the latest announcements.

Publisher Behind Payday 2 Starbreeze May Not Last Another Year

The publisher of Overkill's The Walking Dead and Payday 2 may not make it another year according to its Q1 2019 financial report. The report details the company's gross profit as well as its operating profit losses.

Starbrezze

Starbreeze Facing Financial Pressure

As reported by the UK based trade magazine MCV, Starbreeze did not try to hide that they were in a challenging situation. It was revealed that the company would have a liquidity shortfall before the middle of the year if no further funding was secured. This means that Starbreeze would not have enough money to keep the company running.

According to the in-depth look at their Q1 2019 financial results, it showed that their net sales totaled SEK 47.8 million ($4.9 million USD), with Payday 2 making up for SEK 26.7 million ($2.7 million USD), which was an increase from last quarter. Although, Starbreeze's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization showed a loss of SEK 106.7 million ($11.1 million USD), which accounts for more than double the loss experienced in Q1 of 2018.

The company attributes their decreased earnings "due primarily to lower net sales, higher administrative costs related to the reconstruction and the negative accounting effect of the sale of System Shock 3” amounting to SEK 68.1m ($7.1 million USD).

As for the company's plans to avoid a complete shutdown, the acting CEO Mikael Nermark indicated that his main goal is to secure funding for Starbreeze to avoid this devastating situation.

“My main task is to secure financing for the company’s future operations,” Nermak said. “This involves both long-term financing we can use to build the Starbreeze of the future, but also making sure that the assets we have determined are unrelated to the core business are managed in a commercially viable way. Once this financing has been secured, we will be able to look ahead and present a more detailed strategy for the future.”

Predator: Hunting Grounds Revealed During PS4 State of Play

Sony revealed a number of new games during their May State of Play stream. One of these new titles is Predator: Hunting Grounds, with a release date scheduled for an undisclosed time in 2020. The announcement was followed up with a trailer that you can find below.

Predator: Hunting Grounds - Reveal Trailer

Predator: Hunting Grounds is set up like an online-asymmetric shooter, where a group of players takes on one of the iconic hunters, who is also controlled by another player. The game is being developed by Illfonic, the same studio that made Friday the 13th: The Game. In the trailer, a group of soldiers is seen sneaking through the jungle being watched from the trees by Predator, only visible by his telltale shimmer.

"As the Fireteam attempt to carry out paramilitary missions--annihilating bad guys and recovering important items--the Predator will be closing in, using its advanced vision mode to track and ambush its prey," Illfonic CEO Charles Brungardt wrote on the PlayStation blog. He added that the game was in early development so it will be a while before fans get to see what this game is made of.

Sony revealed a variety of other games during the State of Play stream. Riverbond, a 4 player couch co-op hack, and slash title is set to release this summer along with Away: The Survival Series, a third person adventure game where players take control of a sugar glider, seeking safety after natural disasters devastate his habitat.

Sony isn't ready to step off the gas in terms of original and exclusive releases. It seems as though fans have many more new adventures waiting for them in the coming months. To keep up with all the latest gaming news and latest announcements, check back on GigamaxGames.com!

Ready for Dead Cells on Mobile?

The award-winning roguelike metroidvania action platformer, Dead Cells is coming to mobile.

dead cells, dead cells developer, dead cells mobile, new dead cells, mobile gaming, video game news

Mobile gaming continues to wrestle with the pay-to-win stigma. This has changed over the past couple years and with Dead Cells coming to mobile, it’s another win for mobile gamers. Motion Twin teams up with Playdigious to publish Dead Cells on iPhone and iPad. It’s expected to make its way on iOS this summer.

Dead Cells Gameplay on Nintendo Switch

The indie game was developed by the French studio, Motion Twin. It was incredibly well received immediately upon its release on May 10th, 2017. Dead Cells even took the title for Best Independent Game in 2018. Currently available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, Linux, and Mac, it’ll soon fit in anyone’s pocket.

Dead Cells will initially be released on the iPhone and iPad but the press release promised the game will later come to Android devices. For Android users, they can get notified when this will happen.

Is Mobile Gaming All Bad?

Mobile games have come a long way since its origins. This is no Clash of Clans, instead, it is the entire, gorgeous and well designed Dead Cells just on mobile devices. Playdigious even makes a special point to mention that the mobile version will have no ads and absolutely no F2P mechanics. The game will cost €9.99 and includes all the content from the PC and console version. However, it does include two game modes. These two modes include ‘original’ and  ‘auto-hit’. Any gamer that has played a mobile game adaptation of a PC or console game understands that playing on a touchscreen isn’t nearly as intuitive when compared to using a controller or mouse and keyboard. The auto-hit version of the game is expected to be a way to overcome this handicap, which will be a huge benefit in the chaotic 2D platformer.

Related content - Dead Cells Let’s Play Page!

Dead Cells mobile will allow individuals to customize their button positions and sizes as well as feature some additional touch control customizations. Those that own a mobile game controller can breathe easy since the game will come with MFi external controller support. It seems as though Motion Twin and Playdigious are doing all they can not soil the name of the award-winning game by adding features to enhance the feel of Dead Cells mobile.

Long-time gamers tend to cringe at the idea of games like Dead Cells moving over to the mobile arena. They’ve been jaded by countless and blatant money grabs so many mobile games have turned out to be. Yet, as mobile technology continues to advance and indie games that fit the platform well like Dead Cells continue to be developed, the future for mobile gaming looks bright. Mobile gaming raked in over 48 billion dollars in 2016 and is expected to reach over 74 billion dollars in 2019. This trend isn’t going anywhere. As long as quality games like Dead Cells continue to make their way onto mobile, the western gaming community may begin to widely accept mobile gaming as a serious option.

Fans of retro games can rejoice. A new Earthworm Jim game is on the way and it's being developed by the series original team.

The new title is being developed by ten of the original programmers, artists, audio team, and level designers. While the full team has yet to be revealed, it is most likely comprised of Doug TenNapel, David Perry, Tommy Tallarico, Nick Bruty, Mike Dietz, Tom Tanaka, and Joey Kuras, the original members of the Earthwork Jim team.

The new game is being exclusively developed for the Intellivision Amico, a new console that is due to release in October 2020, essentially a remaster of the console from the 1980s. The composer and sound designer for the original Earthworm Jim games, Tommy Tallarico, is the CEO and President of Intellivision Entertainment.

Fans first look at the new Earthworm Jim title will come in the form of a livestream on May 4th at noon PT. The team will hold a design meeting and discuss their vision for the game during the stream.

“We have been talking about this moment for many years, it’s a dream come true to finally get the entire team back together. We’re looking forward to sharing a small part of our reunion and initial design meeting with fans from around the world,” said Tommy Tallarico in a press release.

Although the announcement doesn't offer any information on what the new Earthworm Jim might play like, knowing the nature of the console it will probably play like the originals.
