Bungie Details Destiny 2: Black Armory Launch Plans

Bungie is giving Destiny 2 fans some information on what to expect with their next big paid DLC, Black Armory. The company also detailed issues that players may encounter in the week leading up to the update. Black Armory officially launches on December 4th, and Bungie wants to make sure that Guardians are aware of the changes coming to the popular FPS.

Curtain Lifted Off Destiny 2: Black Armory 

In the most recent Destiny 2 developer blog, the team announced that they were working on a list of temporary changes to keep players informed and encourages fans to post any bugs they encounter on the official help forum so they can get to work on the issue.

Black Armory will be launched after the start of Destiny 2's next season, Season of the Forge, which begins on November 27th. It will be followed by the Season of the Drifter, which is proceeded by a season that Bungie has yet to reveal. Season of the Forge will add The Dawning event, new crucible content, and a variety of weapons. Holders of the annual pass that access Black Armory will obtain Light and Fury weapons, the new Forges of the Chain activity, a Raid Lair, and new exotics/legendaries.

Are You Ready Guardian? 

Bungie also suggested that the transition into the next year of Destiny 2 will come with a new set of changes and plans for the future. As of now, Bungie has a full year of content planned for the game and hasn't been clear on what comes after.

This is the first developer update after Activision revealed that Destiny 2: Forsaken failed to meet sales targets. Destiny 2: Forsaken Did Not Meet Sales Targets

Destiny 2's latest expansion, Forsaken, on Xbox One, PS4, and PC failed to meet Activision's sales expectations and the DLC's ability to re-energize the franchise. This report comes from the most recent Blizzard-Activision earnings call.

"While forsaken is a high-quality expansion with strong engagement and new modes of play, it did not achieve our commercial expectations," Activision Publishing boss Coddy Johnson said during the earnings call. Johnson also mentioned during the call that Activision plans on improving the pace of innovation and cadence of in-game content in Destiny 2. The company wants to create new ways for players to engage further with the game and purchase more in-game currency via microtransactions. This statement doesn't only reflect Destiny 2, but all of Activision's current franchises.

According to the company, those that are currently playing Destiny 2: Forsaken are deeply engaged with the content. However, Activision is starting to shift their focus on drawing in old players and bringing in a new audience. This is clearly evident with Activision's recent decision to make vanilla Destiny 2 free on PC for a limited time.

"We have not yet seen the full core re-engage in Destiny, which has kind of led to the underperformance against expectations to date," Johnson said. "Some players we think are still in 'wait and see' mode. If you're in, you're deeply engaged. Despite not reaching sales goals, monthly active users for Destiny 2 grew quarter over quarter and year over year for the period that ended on September 30th. Activision attributes the increased player figures to the release of Forsaken at the beginning of September.

The next big update to Destiny 2 comes in the form of the Black Armory expansion in December, which hopefully will take the games sales numbers a little closer to their projections. Festival of the Lost Brings Tons of New Content to Destiny 2

October is here and Halloween is right around the corner. Bungie is celebrating with their annual Festival of the Lost event. The company teased this year's festivities last week and has recently pulled back the curtain on what new activities and gear fans will be able to take part in and earn while the Halloween themed event is taking place.

Festival of the Lost Details 

The biggest addition to Destiny 2 is that the Festival of the Lost brings a new PVE zone named "The Haunted Forest" which can either be tackled solo or with a fire team. Players will be able to take on what Bungie calls "Ghouls and Demons, who are spooking up a storm." When Guardians jump into the area they will have 15 minutes to make it as far as they can with the difficulty ramping up the further they get.

On the tail end of Festival of the Lost players, will be able to complete a quest that has Guardians investigating the murder of the old Vestian Outpost Cryptarch, Master Ives. This new mission will net fans a Powerful piece of gear, but this quest won't be available until the weekly reset on the October 30th.

This year's festivities have been put in the hands of the very capable Amanda Holiday, the Tower's shipwright. She's taken her time to decorate the Tower with a ton of Halloween themed flair and most importantly, she'll hand out bounties which Guardians can complete to earn a new item called, Fragmented Souls. Players will be able to turn in these items for a variety of Festival of the Lost masks and a new Auto Rifle named, Horror Story. There will also be a number of new Triumphs to complete which are all related to the new activities.

Much like the Solstice of Heroes event that took place back in August, players will still be able to earn Steadfast Engrams by filling up their XP Bars, but during the event, they'll also earn Ephemeral Engrams which give out themed rewards. These new items include sparrows, ships, ghost shells, and emotes. Ephemeral Engrams will also be sold by Tess but require Destiny 2's paid currency, Silver. Holiday will also have a collection of goodies that players can purchase with Bright Dust.

Guardians will be able to start their haunted adventure when Festival of the Lost kicks off on Tuesday, October 16th. The event will run until November 6th and even those without the Forsaken DLC will be able to participate in the celebration!

Destiny 2’s Masterwork Cores Getting Reworked

Bungie finally confirmed that they are solving issues many fans are having with Destiny 2. Just before the Forsaken Expansion, a patch was implemented that increased the importance of the "Masterwork Cores" resource. The company acknowledged that the system is currently flawed and reassured fans that a fix was on the way.

Masterwork Core Rework on the Horizon

Before the patch was made live, Masterwork Cores were solely used for upgrading a weapon into their Masterwork version. These weapons have increased stats and add a variety of perks to the gun, but obtaining the resource necessary to make this transformation isn't a simple task.

Now that Forsaken is out, Masterwork Cores are an essential ingredient for Destiny 2's Infusion system, which allows players to boost their Light Level by deconstructing weapons. This was initially intended to make the choice of Infusion more difficult so Guardians would have to utilize a wider variety of weapons. Now that this resource is needed in two separate but important systems, fans believe the drop rate is too low.

This was one of the talking points for Bungie's most recent blog post which acknowledged the player feedback and promised to fix it. The post detailed the two main problems: "Masterwork Cores have a misleading name. When they were created, the definition of a pinnacle item put the emphasis almost entirely on Masterworking. We expanded that definition in Forsaken, but didn't update the currency. [Also], there are not enough reliable sources to earn Masterwork Cores, which can make deciding what to spend them on too difficult." (https://bit.ly/2Ioi8PR)

Destiny 2 currently only offers a few ways to obtain Masterwork Cores: breaking down Legendary gear, purchasing them from the vendor on the Tangled Shore, or using a Consumable that causes bosses to drop them. On top of the update to cores, Bungie is modifying Exotic drop rates so that players are less likely to earn weapons or armor they've already received.

This certainly wouldn't be the first time Bungie changed a system that fans had complaints about. It's reassuring to see their open-mindedness when it comes to taking advice from fan feedback. Bungie Plans Unprecedented FPS Mode for Destiny 2

Destiny 2's Warmind DLC is quickly approaching its release date. Many fans are already excited for what Bungie has planned for after their second expansion. The game's publisher, Activision, is teasing players with the promise of an unprecedented mode for not just Destiny 2, but all first-person shooters in general. Although, details of this new mode will not be revealed until E3 2018.

Activision's Big News

This news was revealed in a post-earnings conference call with investors where Activision's president, Cody Johnson, responded to how Bungie plans on continuing to improve the Destiny 2 experience through the rest of this year. Johnson added that the company recently invited some dedicated Destiny fans to the office to preview Warmind and their response was "very positive." Apparently, they were not only pleased with the upcoming expansion, but with the roadmap and teased fall content as well.

Johnson was sparse on details but said that the content is "an incredibly engaging new mode--one that introduces a whole new style of play for first-person shooter gaming generally and certainly for the shared-world shooter space that Destiny created. What Will The Fans Think?

While fans are surely sitting on the edge of their seat to see what Bungie has planned, Johnson clarified the full details will not be revealed until after Warmind is released. The company is expected to make their big reveal at E3 this year, which is taking place in LA on June 12th through 14th.

All of this information is part of Bungie's effort to help make their future content vision more visible to the community. Currently, the company laid out a roadmap that extends through the summer, but very little is known about the third expansion that is slated for this fall. The original Destiny faced some of the same criticism that Destiny 2 is receiving, while the first game made up for these mistakes with The Taken King expansion, fans are now eagerly awaiting to see if Warmind or the fall expansion will be the same saving grace.

In the most recent developer update from Bungie, Destiny 2's senior designer, Daniel Auchenpaugh, discussed how the power level grind will be changed in the upcoming Warmind expansion. This will be the second major update the game is receiving and there are some major changes on the horizon. Basically, what this means is that it will be much harder for Guardians to max out their power levels once Warmind drops in May.

Where Did The Rewards Go?

Auchenpaugh also explained that the new public events won't hold the lucrative rewards they have been known for recently. Clan engrams also won't help players progress through levels on their own anymore. Warmind's soft level cap is currently set at 340, which means that players will only be able to move up 10 power levels from  Curse of Osiris' max level with the help of open world drops. Although, it was also stated that the hard level cap for Warmind is 380.





For gamers that have been playing Destiny 2 since launch, the grind from 340 to 380 may sound simple, but Bungie assured fans that the process will go much slower than anything they've released before. Auchenpaugh also stated that even players that complete every end-game activity a week will still need to wait for several resets in order to reach the new cap. As per usual, the best rewards drop from Raids and Trials while low tier gear can be earned through clan engrams.

The Grind is Real!

Players should also prepare for the grind from 370 to 380, which is set to test the patience of even the most seasoned Destiny veterans. All of these changes are to help address fans concerns that Destiny 2 had been streamlined to the point where it became too easy. With all of these updates, the longevity of Warmind is sure to be much better than both the base game and the Curse of Osiris expansion.

It should also be noted that all of the numbers mentioned above are assuming that no legendary mods are installed. Bungie is set to reveal more about the next expansion during a live stream on April 24th, before the expansion drops on May 8th.

Destiny 2's Exotics Are Changing in Upcoming Update

Fans of those rare bright yellow orbs will be excited to hear that Bungie is hard at work fixing some of the issues players had with Destiny 2's Exotics. The company recently revealed how it plans to update the game with the next patch expected in March. They did this in the latest Bungie Weekly Update where Senior Designer, Jon Weisnewski, said the tuning of Destiny 2's Exotics is focused on "adding and/or increasing player Power spikes." The blog post explained that while all items were being considered, special focus is being put on low usage items. Ultimately the company wants to "lean into an item's established gameplay and push it harder" while avoiding "catch-all improvements that dilute item identity."

In order to deepen players understanding, Weisnewski offered the Graviton Lance as an example, going on to say that feedback on the weapon is positive on a cosmetic level but it is not a viable weapon for getting kills in various PVP scenarios. To fix this, Bungie is reducing the recoil of the first burst while also introducing new aim assist measures and changing the three shot burst to a two-round burst.

Math Offers An Edge

"This still plays into the fantasy of a low-damage gravity-neutralizing round forming a projectile tunnel for the last bullet," he said. "It also allows us to ensure the damage per burst is at a competitive level for PVP engagements. According to Weisnewski, this is only one of the ways Destiny 2's Exotics are changing. Currently, the weapons not being eyed for updates are Merciless, Telesto, Wardcliff Coil, MIDA Multi Tool, Colony, Legend of Acrius, and Vigilance Wing. Bungie decided that these weapons already encapsulated the feeling they wanted the players to have when using one of these ultra-rare weapons.

Some Gear Gets a Touch Up

"We'll be touching a lot of powerful gear with this update and to truly understand the impact for players requires a lot of design iteration and test time," Weisnewski said. "It isn't enough to crank up the damage and run one strike or Crucible match with a gun and helmet and move on. Dialing in the right amount of power, testing in all activities with all types of load outs, finding the bugs, fixing the bugs, updating the perk description text to reflect new behaviour, and then handing that off to localization for translation--it’s a ton of work, but we're up to it. As Bungie has previously detailed on Destiny 2's roadmap, these changes are expected to go into effect on March 27th when both the Sandbox and Crucible update are launched as part of patch 1.1.4. Right now players can still take part in the Valentines day event, Crimson Days, which adds a 2v2 Crucible playlist. Those that take part have the chance to get there hands on a variety of new loot specific to the limited time event.

Bungie recently offered details on the upcoming Destiny 2 seasons after a panel they held at TwitchCon. The company provided some insight into how the new system will work and how players will be able to take advantage of the seasons to get new gear and other rewards. This comes as no surprise considering Bungie has been looking for ways to extend the lifespan of Destiny 2 since the game's launch in September.

After showing a quick preview of what to expect from next week's patch, the developer showed viewers an outline of areas it wants to improve throughout the game. As of now, the game has been handed off from the main development team to the Live Team, who are responsible for supporting the game post-launch, much like what was done for the first Destiny. Some of the updates the Live Team have planned include private Crucible matches, improved rewards for high-level activities, and changes to the mod system.

The Details

In a post on the Bungie website yesterday, the game's director Christopher Barrett said "We've been playing the game in the wild for seven weeks, and like the Destiny experiences that have come before, we're always thinking about where the game is heading next. We're still planning when a bunch of the improvements listed below are going to make their way into the game, but we wanted to let you know what we're up to." Following the statement, he issued a series of areas that Bungie was working on for Destiny 2 seasons.

  • New systems and rewards to give our most engaged players additional, optional pursuits.
  • Better incentives for players who complete challenging Prestige activities.
  • Better rewards and replay value for strikes, adventures, and Lost Sectors.
  • Private matches for the competitive community (we are targeting early 2018).
  • Crucible tuning like adjusted Supremacy scoring and better spawning rules.
  • Better incentives for completing Crucible matches (and penalties for quitting competitive games).
  • Continued improvements to Iron Banner and Faction Rallies, including uniqueness of rewards.
  • Changes to make the mod economy more interesting and impactful.
  • Ongoing improvements to Exotics, including adjustments to reduce instances of duplication.
  • New ways to spend surplus currency and materials (looking at you Legendary Shards).
  • An emote interface that allows players to equip Salty, Spicy Ramen, Six Shooter, and Flip Out all at the same time.

As of now, Bungie only detailed a timetable for private matches. Next week's update is all about addressing issues with bugs, rather than adding more content. Recently the Iron Banner and Faction Rallies saw a return to the game and the company said that The Dawning will be coming back, but unfortunately there will be no Halloween event this year but the Festival of the Lost will be returning in 2018. It seems as though Bungie has a lot of work ahead of them and hopefully they can roll out some of these additions before too many players depart the game for this the upcoming big releases like Call of Duty WWII. Destiny 2: Was It Worth The Hype?

Many players had a strange relationship with the first Destiny. Bungie told people to expect a 10-year game that will continuously grow and improve as time went on. However, this was far from the truth. The original Destiny left a bad taste in many gamers mouths, feeling as though it was disrespecting the players time and just adding enough content to string people along. Some loved the game, but there is no doubt that the game, at its core, was seriously flawed but now all eyes are on Destiny 2.

The Worry Was Real

This left gamers worried if Destiny 2 had the potential to save the franchise. When people found out all of their hard earned rewards would be stripped away and then be forced to start from scratch, it wasn’t the best introduction. But to the surprise of many Destiny 2 and the developers at Bungie took the community’s criticism of the first game to heart and it shows in a big way.

One of the main issues with original Destiny was the lack of rewards and the countless hours spent on repetitive grinding to receive any piece of worthwhile gear. This was far beyond the expected grind in this kind of ‘open’ exploration game. Bungie seemed to put all their chips in the exquisite gunplay and ignore a fully fleshed out campaign or any substance when it came to the grind. Running around a small map searching for chests that spawn in the same location on a timer is not an exciting gaming experience.

Destiny 2 May Have Done It

Destiny 2 is a monumental improvement over the original. Even though players have to start from scratch, the intro of the game provides a nice flashback of their time in the original. Milestones are remembered with a slideshow once a player starts the game, showing off their greatest achievements and even lists the players that were in the group when completed. This short but sweet ode to your original Destiny fireteams was the right kind of send off for the misstep that was Destiny.

Even those that truly enjoyed the original Destiny have said it felt as though it was just one big beta for Destiny 2. Bungie did it right with this latest installment. Each planet has a more robust environment giving the sensation of being alive, more so than anything the original ever offered. The amount of story, strikes, and content offered at launch puts the original to shame and is an incredible indicator of things to come. The story evoked emotions and NPC’s have relatable personalities. With Bungie stating that they will be adding content much more regularly, one can only imagine where it will go from here. 

Overall Bungie redeemed themselves with Destiny 2. This latest title truly shows that the developers listened to their audience and put some real thought into the new game.  It feels as though this is just the beginning for one of the most highly anticipated shooters in history. If Destiny was able to reach impressive heights with lackluster content, there’s no telling how far the second game can go.

Destiny 2 Server and Raid Launch Times

It's finally here, Destiny 2 launches next week and Bungie has clarified many of the specifics behind their first person shooters release. To kick off the list of big announcements, the developer confirmed when Destiny 2's servers will go live. The game will be officially released at Midnight in countries around the world and for the U.S. that means Midnight EST.

While Destiny 2 may not go live until September 6th, Playstation 4 players can start pre loading the game if they have the game pre purchased (Like the dedicated guardians in the Gigamax crew). Unfortunately, Bungie has yet to state when pre loading on the PC and Xbox One will start but hopefully it will be soon.

The Hype Train Is Here

To further build up the hype, Bungie detailed when Destiny 2's first Nightfall Strike, Raid, and Trials of Osiris will begin. As for the Nightfall Strikes, they will be available from the start of the game but probably won't be completed for at least a week due to their difficult nature. The Raid will kick off at 10 AM PT/ 1 PM ET/ 6 PM BST on September 13th, with Trials of Osiris launching at the same times on September 15th.

Those that don't enjoy spoilers will be happy to hear that Bungie is being super protective of details on the raid so that nothing is ruined by a leak. New Features!

The Guided Games feature won't roll out until September 12th at 1 PM ET and Bungie explained it will be a "Soft Beta" which essentially means only certain players will have access to the experience. Guided Games is Destiny 2's new feature that hooks solo players up with clans to help take on some of the more daunting tasks throughout the game. This may help keep people without a solid raid crew interest in the game and lend a helping hand so they can experience what the full game really has to offer.
